Really? Shame I as a PC guy couldn’t lay my hands on it for another year or so
Today with the release of The Badboy ET mark the end of this Season’s contents. What’s your thought about this roadmap?
Overall, a resounding meh. As per normal for the roadmaps we’ve had for awhile.
If they started adding more to them, even if it was just slowly bringing back some old H1 escalations they cut in H2, it would be an improvement to the roadmaps overall. At least it wouldn’t be content that hasn’t been on repeat for five years…
I think this roadmap is far better than a “meh”. The inclusion of the special assignments alone along with their Elusive Targets and the Herbalist Elusive Target were really good additions. While the reruns of old Elusive Targets may be underwhelming at this point, some good stuff was added.
Very solid roadmap!
The Herbalist is an amazing mission with plenty of interesting variety and map changes. Plus it’s on Haven Island, a map I really didn’t think would ever get an ET since it’s DLC! It gives me hope that we might see a New York ET, and maybe ETs on Mumbai and Ambrose Island at some point too!
The Getaway Pack has three very nice looking suits that fit in well on locations, and I love they actually put in effort to put a bunch of jokes on the SPF 47 bottle!
Of course the biggest thing is the fact that this roadmap signifies a change in the content support for the game! For the next year or so, we can reasonably expect at least one new Special Assignment with each game patch, in addition to the usual single challenges and Twitch Drops! To me just feels so good to finally be getting new missions that are added to the destinations page on a location, the first new content added to a destination page since The Haliwell Fable launched on November 10, 2022!
It’s the first patch where I’m fully happy with the amount of stuff being added, because while I like many of the past Celeb ETs, the normal ETs and ET Arcades are nowhere near as enjoyable as a full-on Special Assignment with challenges. Would love to see more stuff added in future roadmaps, such as bringing back the legacy challenges and escalations that were cut, adding new challenge packs, having even more challenges in the Special Assignments (and has it been enough time we could get more new escalations?), but as it stands now this is what I consider a decent amount added! Who knows what we’ll get in Year 7, seems like they’re improving support and adding even more each year!
The overall roadmap itself was pretty bland, but it has two really big standouts that elevate it higher than it would have been otherwise. The Herbalist CelebrET, and the decision to finally make at least these kinds of ETs into SpecAss missions.
Something about that comment really rankles me, but I’ll just like it instead and move on.
Don’t see why; other than those two items, it was really just more of the same, just like past roadmaps - literally more of the same in the case of the last one, which was just a rebrand of The Disruptor. This roadmap had an item and suit pack that was ok but nothing special, more Twitch unlocks, more Featured Contracts which I don’t even play because there’s nothing to unlock or gain from them, more of the same rerun ETs. Introducing the Herbalist and SpecAss CelebrET missions was the saving grace of the season.
I’m sorry, but in my opinion these are bad maps for ET alongside with Colorado.
In my opinion those maps just don’t built for ETs.
To make them ETable it’s too much to reimagine.
Why not Whittleton Creek instead for example? I agree it’s small, but it’s way better in terms of being ET friendly
I just think the Special Assignments are a bit of a meh addition because they started the rollout with The Undying - the oldest CelebrET that is eight years old and we’ve had ample opportunity to run that well dry because of its dual activations each year for three years now.
I don’t see what is so great about putting an old barebones mission into a new container.
Or maybe having unrestricted access to years via Peacock has tainted it for me. ![]()
Any map could be good for a new mission, it just depends on how creative they are. And with how several ETs significantly change up the original maps, like The Reflection and The Harbinger, it shows they’re willing to reimagine quite a lot on the missions.
There are a ton of potential for areas to be reworked in interesting ways. On Mumbai, having Rangan Tower actually finished with a few extra floors. On Ambrose Island having an Indiana Jones/Lara Croft type who’s excavating the ruins. Or even on Colorado seeing the map in a non-hostile setting with several civilians (like the upcoming Colorado Harvest Festival mod).
At this point I hope every location gets its own Celeb ET/Special Assignment side mission, and I agree there’s a lot they could do on Whittleton Creek. But I point out those three because they’re the only big levels that haven’t even had a normal ET yet (and Mumbai could use a better Special Assignment target than Basil Carnaby)
Whether they are bad maps for it or not, they need to have one. And New York. Every map aside from Carpathian Mountains and ICA Training Facility needs at least one.
With this, why ICA Facility and Carpathians are out the list then?
CET mission could be made into a dedicated Sniper Assassin map, just like Hantu Port or Siberia.
A Colorado map with civilians would also sound good.
They don’t work. One’s a stage set and ones a train. The rest are established real areas with full exploration.
Well we haven’t even had a et on New York for a long while hopefully we get one there
I think it was just the idea that a roadmap would, by default practically, be “bland” unless it was chock full of new and exciting things. The fact that the special assignments were added, and the new Celebrity Elusive Target, makes it a better than normal roadmap, even with everything else in it being, as you said, “bland”. With the exception of new game modes or a brand new map, every roadmap from here on out (and going back to basically when Freelancer was released) has been, or will be similar with only one or two highlights to make them stand out.
But as I said, I liked it and moved on.
Well, I did say bland other than the new additions, which elevated it above that. It’s bland without them.
The 3-4 hour long play session, when I did all of the new challenges of the special assignments was honestly the most satisfying session I had in the game in some years.
I was pure Hitman.
Repeatedly toying with two missions from all their angles.
One was raw discovery.
The second was rewarding old knowledge.
If the game gives me the same again every roadmap (new celebrET/collab+old one updated) for a year or so I will be very happy.
After that though.
It was nothing impactful in the long term.
Freelancer is a bit stale to me.
Because I have close to 2500 hours in the game. And I approximate 250-300 campaigns done.
So, it’s fair.
(LL when?
)
These levels could easily be reworked for ETs though, since some of the recent ETs like the Herbalist or the Banker have significant changes compared to the usual levels. The facility could be set as another “training mission”, or even overhauled completely as a real boat / military base instead of a plywood one. Likewise the train could be reworked as some kind of high security train where you have to locate and identify a target.
