Not really being a chess player, I’m probably going to ruin the joke by asking for it to be explained. I can see that the king is in check and by moving out of check, the knight could take the queen, but wouldn’t the king just then take the knight?

The knight is under no threat (so it can’t be taken to avoid check), and the white king has to move, enabling the black knight to take the rook or the queen. Even if the knight gets taken after taking the queen, that’s still an excellent trade.

It is a shame because Loss would have been a really good comic if a) it was a part of literally any other comic series and b) Buckley didn’t say miscarriage was harder on the father than on the mother after the fact.

True, a miscarriage is hard on everybody even those that aren’t the parents but if I had to pick one person who would feel the loss the most it would be the person that had a living thing die inside of them. I don’t mean to say the father can’t feel bad since that is absolutely stupid but I am willing to bet the mother would feel the loss more intensely and more acutely than the father.

understandable. cause they’re the one closest to the child. so it’s a greater weight on them out of everyone. including you have to imagine all that work to have a child dealing with all the pregnancy pains and changing emotions. all for it to have been taken away from them leaving them with nothing.

I think it’s more to do with the father experiencing that loss as well as his concern over the health of the mother, so he’s got two things weighing on him at once. This could be the harder position, particularly if the mother wasn’t really that invested in the pregnancy, and assuming the father cares for the mother at all.
Yeah let’s not make “Who would feel worse after a miscarriage” some sort of competitive thing or a debate especially not on the Funny Thread.

I’m not, I’m just saying where that I idea may have come from in the mind of the original artist.
But the strip shows the mother is clearly distraught so obviously that isn’t the case. Tim Buckley is just an idiot who said something without fully thinking it through.
