I don’t think I ever mentioned I went to a Metric concert last month! It was great! Had lots of fun, got a long-sleeved merch shirt, lots of fun songs to sing and jump and head-bop to!
The waiting beforehand reslly sucked though. Tickets were for 7pm, the line went way down the block and we didn’t get let in until 20 mins after.
And then came the waiting in the standing-room only area in the venue.
Not everyone arrived on time, so you could see the back half of the room get filled in over the next 30 minutes or so. And we kept waiting.
It was only at 9pm, 2 hours after many of us had already arrived and were standing in place for so long, did they take the stage! Ouch!
And even then, about 4 or so songs into the performance, they needed to do a little huddle then walk off stage due to some technical issue! Yikes!
We got a great story from the lead singer Emily Haines about how their band has seemed cursed from the start – there’s always something that seems to be going wrong during one of their tours. At Coachella once, they played so hard that some of their instruments started malfunctioning and needed live fixes…
Apart from that, it was a great 90-minute setlist!
It was the launch party for their most recent album Formentera II, and also celebrating 20 years since their very first album that had its anniversary in September.
So, they played a lot of tracks from their first album (I think all of them? IDK the album well) And quite a few from last/this year’s Formentera duology (good, I know Formentera well) nothing from between that which is a bit unfortunate.
They played very loud, had a great smoke/lighting setup so you could really see lots of spotlights, and a cool instrument setup, where there were two keyboards thaf flanked Emily on stage, so she could slide into either of them to play some synths while singing in some of the songs. It was Fun!
