What are you eating or cooking?

Forgot to post my Christmas dinner. Classic and traditional.

Pork roast, Duck, caramelised potatoes, gravy, pickled red cabbage and chips/crisps. The apple was a new edition, but also a classic side dish.

Eating chips/crisps as part of the dinner is more of a regional thing.

I love duck, a nice Christmas duck roast is wonderful. Yet the Pork roast is my favourite.

Have a few days off work. It’s freezing outside so I’m preparing a sauce for when my wife gets back from work. It’s with onoins, garlic, tomato, red wine and pancetta. Will simmer for another six to seven hours. Shortly before I serve this I’ll add some fresh porcini (made with a lot of butter and more garlic). Served with freshly grated parmesan cheese and parsley on top.

There are few things better than getting home after a long cold day, exhausted, stressed out and with cooking to be done before you can eat; but then someone says “I’ve taken care of dinner” :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

This has been my staple healthy meal for the past while. Rice with broccoli, some butter and a diced up scrambled egg, seasoned with salt and italian seasoning. It’s basic but good.

A decent breakfast. Not wonderful but that applewood smoked sausage was way far out of place. It’s like the food all came from one kitchen and the sausage came from a far superior kitchen; a place that has stars and you can’t get a reservation unless you know somebody.

Going just off of appearances, that bacon looks pretty scrumptious too.

You may try Chicken filled in bamboo and then burning it on wood. Had a get together with friends - Lunch with rice and this amazing Bamboo Chicken prepared by my friend in the open.

The rice was made in Rice cooker - just X cups of rice and 2X cups of water on the automatic rice cooker does the best fluffy separated white rice trick without burn.

The bamboo chicken is a bit tricky, recepie shared here, you may try. You can use any meat in place of chicken. Best is to have it served on Banana Leaf plates - pure natural.

We were so hungry, missed to click the chicken on plate, excuse for this.

A random pic of Bamboo Chicken from internet:

I just had a “cheezeborger” from Billy Goats Tavern. This is going way back but that’s the place John Belushi based his SNL skit on. 40 ish years later and you still can’t get fries. Just “cheeps.” :joy:

Largest oysters I have ever seen, solid cocktails, grilled octopus in nduja sauce and some overly torched brussels sprouts.

Then a bunch of bars later at 4 / 5am

Burger joint that’s been family owned for over 75 years. I love Auckland!

Ripe Mangoes for Breakfast - multiple breeds.

Top: Baganapalli, Left: Himsagar, Right: Alphonso

There are more than a dozen breeds of Mangoes here, each having its own shape, color, taste, sweet spot, texture. My favourite is Dasheri (which was not available though)

Some Common Breeds of Mangoes and Place of Cultivation

Fun Facts

Some mango trees continue producing fruit even after 300 years.

In some varieties, the seed can account for up to 20% of the fruit’s weight.

Historically, rulers in India exchanged prized mango varieties as diplomatic and ceremonial gifts.

Birds, bats, and humans helped spread mangoes worldwide.

A single flowering cluster can contain thousands of flowers, but only a tiny fraction develop into mature mangoes.

Like bananas and avocados, mangoes release ethylene gas, which speeds up ripening.

Maybe the best brisket I have ever had. No idea where they get it but there is no way they are smoking it at the aeroport.

@Nazareth only two drinks this time, I wanted a coffee but had like 25 min between flights so I was cutting it close and the coffee machine had a line.
