No it doesn’t. This is a video game. Not some influencer with 1 million followers telling people to drink bleach as some kind of health cleanse.
It. Is. A. Video. Game. How someone else plays the game in their own house does not affect how you or I play the video game in our own houses. If you do not like something do not interact with it. But do NOT dictate to strangers how they are allowed to interact with something. Neither you nor I are the God of how to play video games.
And. It. Deserves. To. Be. Criticised. And. Changed. By. Players. To. Meet. Better. Gameplay. Standards. Benefitting. Everyone.
Really heckin’ annoying when someone talks to you like that, isn’t it?
That is only one aspect of videogame culture. To say that people are not on discord discussing gameplay or how to beat X, Y and Z in god of War is just patently untrue. We live in a digital era, with all the caveats that comes with. You are not alone in your home anymore, for better or worse. So why not use the benefits of that to make our entertainment better?
That is Not what anyone on here is saying. saying something is powerful and explaining how it’s bad and offering suggestions on how to Fix X, Y and Z is not the same thing as being an elitist asshat saying “you can’t do this, it’s really bad if you do”. If that’s what you are taking away from this, then you are being grossly mislead.
See [other people on both sides getting uppity], that’s how you do disagreeing agreeably. Happy and I respect each other’s positions and recognise that the other person’s perspective is a valid take on an inherently subjective issue, whilst holding fundamentally different views that can’t be reconciled.
And we can still happily have a beer together whilst taking the piss out of everything @Patrick_McColloch posts. Living the dream.
I’m starting to feel like discussion of the actual roadmap in this topic is getting lost amid long essays arguing over whether OP items can be ignored or not.
You are the first user who does an imperative “do not” here.
I know the temperature goes up here but anyone who thinks this is not worth the hassle over a video game, please do not post here. It adds nothing to the discussion.
Anyone else is free to discuss if and to which degree balancing should be considered. Of course when you (reader of this post, not pointing to someone particular) notice that your replies to particular other users is just back and forth without going anywhere, consider to be the more adult one and engage with other users.
Meanwhile, I will lock this thread to move this interesting talk to an existing topic so here the roadmap can be discussed again.
Wait how is the sunscreen powerful? Isn’t it just a worse banana? (It breaks when silently KOing someone from behind, unlike the banana. I guess it’s got a bigger footprint when placed?)
Changing or removing an item after the fact when the issue with it isn’t an unintended error is not making an improvement, it’s taking away something enjoyable because they couldn’t plan ahead properly.
Basically fixes issues with the banana and is reusable in VR under certain conditions (I could be wrong, but it may be how the game treats dynamic objects in VR that the regular game forbids 47 from picking up). Otherwise, I think the footprint should be backported to the banana, and that’s about it.
Of the items in the pack, it’s the one I’m not too concerned with. Sedatives that are packaged like this aren’t too bad, and at least require the player to set up a trap in a way that encourages a puzzle mindset, and it will also not work on all guards, and is not fast either.
The sedative egg by comparison is much more of a problem because of its versatility to be…er…deployed…anywhere, breaking certain fetch quest puzzles and gameplay movement, and can also affect multiple targets, not just one.
So even if their gameplay design doesn’t hold up to scrutiny by players years later, that’s not allowed to be improved?
Which issues with the banana exactly? Besides the VR thing looks like a bug to me (since it doesn’t appear to work like that outside of VR), not something that was deliberately intended to be a side effect of the item by the devs.
The banana just has a smaller footprint for activation, that’s all. This covers a wider area, making it easier to use. Not literally broken or anything.
100%. This was something I wanted to acknowledge in my initial post on the topic but ended up removing it because I didn’t want to get too sidetracked. But this is the root of the issue.
Really this is what happens when a game just keeps going and going. It’s worth stepping back for a second and thinking - wow, we’re over a decade into new items being added to this game. An entire decade! Who woulda thought!
There’s only so many balanced new items that can be invented before the danger of powercreep sets in. There’s a desire to keep the ‘live service’ going; a profit motive to devise new packs for sale which entice players with fresh items boasting unique properties.
Imagine trying to explain this problem to the devs working on Hitman 27 years ago lol…
"One day, there’s going to be a Hitman game popular enough that it keeps being updated for more than 10 years after release[effectively], and it’s going to be a struggle to keep thinking of wacky new items to add to the game without them being too powerful that they trivialise things."
Codename 47 dev: What the hell are you talking about?!
I think as far as IOI balancing goes, each mission needs to be completable with the default loadout, and potentially no loadout at all. There’s so many playstyles, that I just don’t care if someone else chooses to always use the durian and dart guns for everything. I wouldn’t say these items don’t require the player to already be mostly familiar with the game to use effectively. The dart guns take practice to master their aim from a distance, and both the dart guns and durian don’t promise the victim moves to where the player was setting up their next move.
The Molotov cocktail was OP in a way I say it did need to be nerfed. It was nearly like cheating in how it could kill by hitting exterior walls and be treated as an accident. However, I am against the removal of the electrocution phone. I think they could’ve nerfed it to not be an accident unless used when the target is in water.
