I realize that I’m replying to this a month late, but if you ever feel bad about making this mistake, remember that Heckler & Koch printed a sales catalogue, distributed at the 2004 SHOT Show, which depicted an incorrectly loaded magazine. This has become something of a running joke among HK enthusiasts, who will purposely load their magazines this way when photographing their weapons.
The basic facts I speak of are that the films after the first two have not been as well received as the first two, both critically and by public opinion, if not financial success, which may or may not be adjusted for inflation. That is not my opinion.
um no? you tried to say what the franchise was about (“The entire central conceit is on the Alien itself”) and presented it as basic facts. don’t try back pedalling
I’m not, I’m providing context. Yes, I said those things, but I did not claim them as basic facts, it was the success of the first two and the perceived failure of the ones that followed that I was referring to when I used that phrase. That was the only part I claimed as facts. The rest of it, yes, my opinion, shared with others, that I presented as being correct, but I did not explicitly claim those as facts. There’s confusion here over what I was referring to when I said that, which admittedly lies with me because I didn’t clarify at the time.
why would you claim that as “fact! got you!” when that wasn’t what we were talking about lmao. you’re being very weird. don’t try to change your narrative to win an argument whether Prometheus is part of the franchise or not?
I’m not, you’re making the argument into more than it was. The argument was not about whether Prometheus was part of the franchise or not, that’s your talking point, not mine. It’s very clearly part of the franchise, but it’s not an Alien movie. And no matter which you consider it, it still falls under my original point that no film in the franchise has succeeded like the first did, and logically can’t, irrespective of who helms the film, because the inherent driving concept of the franchise was already maxed out after the second film.
At this point, if you want to continue this, I think we should take it to one of the movie threads, because we’re not really discussing anything new now.
all I’m doing is defending my opinion that there’s room for more movies within the alien universe and you’re really adamant in attacking that for some reason I don’t understand.
I’m not attacking it, I’m explaining why I think you’re wrong and using the series’s own history to back myself up. That’s not an attack, it’s just my position. You’re attempting to do the same, and neither of us is buying what the other is selling. That’s standard debate practice.
ah yes, was it when I said that you’re entitled to your opinion that I attacked it? my role has solely been “I think my wish for more movies is fair” and you have shut it down by saying that’s not what the franchise is about and try to make a point that the rest of the movies lack of success is because they don’t focus on the alien when that was only one movie.
this is literally the weirdest “discussion” I’ve ever been part of. pointless and uncalled for. but you do you heisenberg bro
Never said your wish for more movies wasn’t fair, merely said that no one can really replicate the original successes. That’s not a shut down; by all means, hope for more and better movies. Just prepare yourself for disappointment, because it’s likely not going to happen. Hardly me telling you not to do something.
how can you lack this much self awareness? I literally just said that the franchise still has subjects/ideas that could be explored and I’d like to see that done (my opinion). Then you respond that that is unrealistic and no one can make another good alien movie.
I’m sorry but wtf
It’s fine that you have your own idea of what the alien movies should be about but there’s literally no reason not to let my opinion exist too.
And now you’re repeating what I didn’t say, so we’re getting exactly nowhere. Whatevs.
you must be trolling at this point?
This part. At no point was this said, done, or attempted. It’s empty drama. Telling you that you are wrong and why is not me not letting your opinion be. There is a vast difference between not letting you have an opinion, and not letting your opinion go unchallenged.
it kind of is?
“I think x”
“I think y and that’s why x is wrong”
how is saying someone is wrong and their opinion is not compatible with your opinion, letting their opinion be.
this is mindbendingly weird.
You’re confusing someone telling you that your opinion is based on an incorrect belief, with someone telling you that you can’t have your opinions.
Now, whatever you want to take from that, we’ve filled up two dozen posts on this and it’s not even on subject anymore. One of the mods is gonna come in and reprimand us at best, so if you still want to discuss the semantics and nitpicks of debating, I suggest you message me in private or just drop it here.
I find your logic and reasoning very fascinating.
“Telling you that you are wrong and why is not me not letting your opinion be” like this being a real sentence that you’ve written out. It’s truly remarkable.
Like dude, you’re literally calling my opinion “an incorrect belief”. I mean… How do you not see it.
Just know, that according to him, this…
is NOT a Christmas song. So arguing with him is a fool’s errand.
How are you not seeing that me telling you that your opinion is based on incorrect thinking is not the same as saying you can’t have that opinion? I’m attempting to convince you that you are wrong; I’m not telling you to just stop thinking it. It’s the same as telling someone that they are entitled to their opinion: that is a coded phrase that says “you are wrong, but go ahead and think it anyway, I can’t stop you.” That’s the same thing as me saying that what you think is still possible, is not. Go on and believe a good Alien movie can still be made; I’m telling you it can’t, and I’ve told you why, but I have not told you “stop believing that!” Those two things are not the same. Are we done now?
You’re right about that, but probably not for the reasons you mean.
Honestly, I didn’t bother reading much of the replies. Because when you scroll past “Well actually doop-a-do”, “oh yeah well derp-a-don’t!” wall of text - one knows they have more constructive ways of spending their time.
Anyway. I heard about someone getting or got married. It was several months ago when I heard about the engagement, and my first thought was “Well that doesn’t sound very ‘Speedrunnery’.”
