I had a very strange encounter this morning at work. Sometime after 4:45 AM, I was mopping the lobby and then headed back to the hotel’s laundry room. While in the hall I heard the automatic doors open… Then heard a loud thud/bang… Like someone had a heavy suitcase they set down on the floor. I get into the laundry room and then head up to the front desk. On my way, I hear some yelling. I get up there and this guy cusses me out and hits the counter with his hand and tells me something like “Here’s what we’re going to do!” Then was saying something about his wife staying at the hotel… He was very drunk. If not drunk then on something. I told him that given the way he was acting, I was very likely to call the police to have him removed from the premises. Then he seemed to calm down and “act” more friendly. He kept going on about how he wanted to pay me money and something about making it look like his wife was never there.
So, I couldn’t make any sense of what he wanted me to do. He even wanted me to give him my PayPal so he could send me… $300… then $500… And I’m wondering why in the hell I should do this! (Not that I have a “PayPal” anyway). Then I was trying to figure out what would happen if he did send me any money.
Me: "No bullshitting… You send me this money and after that what is supposed to happen?"
He never gave me a clear answer and there were more things he said and did… Like trying to shake my hand. I did only one time. He tried to do it again but I outright refused. I didn’t know if he was going to try to do something or what. And I wasn’t about to give him the chance.
Then at some point, a guest (an old man) comes down to the lobby, stops, and looks over towards the breakfast area (this is away from the desk), and this guy says out loud to him “What the fuck are you doing?” Before this I had texted my GM and asked if she could call the cops… I ended up calling them myself after that guest was there.
So 2 police officers finally arrived and had him go outside to talk. I had things I had to get done… They ended up telling him that he needed to leave and that if he came back we (the hotel) could have him arrested for trespassing.
Suffice it to say I was a bit stressed out. I do recall smelling what must’ve been the guy’s cologne or something… It was that or piss… maybe the 2 smells were blending together. Anyway, 10 hours later all I have to do is just think of that smell and it’s making me feel on edge.
Aw I’m sorry you had to deal with that Tetra! And doing it alone mostly, gosh, that’s pretty tense!
At my sbux location, we have this one homeless man who tends to visit us regularly. He’s recently been banned from our store earlier this month due to I think trying to use drugs in our cafe.
When he’s more stable in his head and civil, he’s a fine guy. But often, or more lately, I’ve seen him come in either quite belligerent or possibly drunk. (and we have to ask him to leave immediately now)
It’s sad, its scary, I really feel for him and others in his situation. I think you handled that quite well (and potentially got lucky it was all bark and no bite). Personally for me I turn to my supervisors and leaders who usually have more steeled nerves to handle situations like that.
I’m considering upgrading my Steam Deck to its OLED 1TB model. Particularly considering my sister has taken an interest in the device so at some point between now and the end of the year I’ll be giving her my old model once I’ve ensured that specific things get transferred over to the newer model.
Hey Mano I have a question bc I was looking into a steam deck. Is there an easy way to get it to screen share with a smart tv? I’m interested in some games that are PC only but really want to play on a big screen.
Also I hope the new fancy one is amazing when you get it and I know your sis will be thrilled to take your current one !
There is an official Dock and various good third-party ones if you want to connect it to your TV. I’ve heard those who go this route quite enjoy using it.
Personally I think I’m just gonna keep the SD on its own. Having a handheld Steam gaming device is pretty cool in its own right, and it would feel weird to suddenly want to re-tether myself to a specific TV system.
Also! Just as a note: The Steam Deck is essentially a low-mid power PC entry point.
You’re gonna be seeking out a lot of PS4/XOne games to usually run on Meduim settings at the most if you want decent stable framerate and quality visuals.
Just thought I’d mention since I feel like it’s not communicated enough. I don’t mind it though! There’s tons of games from that era and earlier that you can find
I saw a few of the spam bot raiders yesterday, now we’re getting a flood of them as I post. So… Should I go ahead and just flag one topic? Every topic? Or every post/reply that is spam? I just figured after… 2? Maybe it becomes redundant and whenever whoever gets to it they’ll take care of it… is that how that works?
Edit: Looks like someone is taking care of them now.
