I love the Hitman games, I used to play exclusively on console but have switched to PC. I really want to play Hitman on my PC, but I have so much progress in Hitman 1-3 & WOA on console that I can’t bring myself to start over. I would be more than willing to buy Hitman for my PC if they added cross-save, I would even be willing to buy all the dlcs again. Have the devs ever mentioned it potentially being added? Could we possibly see cross-save when they bring in the new co-op mode? What do y’all think?
I’d be surprised if they ever do. I doubt it’d be hard from a technical standpoint, but I think the platforms make it difficult. None of them want to make it easy to leave their platform for another.
Yeah, I’m just curious whether the devs have considered it or thought it was too big a hassle to deal with.
Funnily enough, the only company that actually dislikes cross-saving is Valve, as they outright have no systems in place for outside company launchers, or for transferring saves to another platform, which is why games on Steam have to find workarounds to do cross-saving. Meanwhile, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft willingly support cross-saving between platforms (Minecraft and Fortnite come to mind), and Epic Games made EOS, with the express purpose of unifying platforms. So the big blocker is IOI, not anyone else, despite the belief present on here.
It’s not a matter of difficulty, it’s a matter of priorities and motivation. And they have consistently weaselled their way out of doing it, citing “technical limitations” at one point…
… Despite the fact that they provided this exact system to Google Stadia players when that shut down. So…not a technical limitation then, just a flat-out lie so you wouldn’t have to do it for other platforms.
Do they really willingly support it, or do they only grudgingly support it when a game or publisher gets big enough to demand it? Regarding Minecraft in particular, for many years Sony refused before finally giving in.
Willingly. Microsoft has a known history with collaborating with Nintendo (again, Minecraft in Switch has cross-play and cross-saving, same with Hades between PC and Switch), and even Sony sucked it up and allowed cross-platform pollination.
They don’t care. Which makes this situation all the more annoying. Especially when you consider IOI want to make an iOS port of Hitman: WOA and they have a Switch 2 port out.
