The PSVR2 release will bring new VR features and enhancements.
IO Interactive debuted a first look at HITMAN World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 during the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play. Planned for release in December 2024, the PlayStation VR2 version of HITMAN World of Assassination will feature brand-new VR features including dual-wielding, full ambidexterity, room-scale implementation, as well as general improved VR experience through new intuitive controls and gameplay mechanics. Players will be able to access the PSVR2 version through an upgrade pack available for HITMAN World of Assassination owners on PlayStationÂŽ5.
HITMAN World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 will support the full main campaign of HITMAN World of Assassination, allowing players to enjoy the award-winning game with added immersion and brand-new additions. Become the worldâs best assassin through the 4K HDR display of PlayStation VR2. Explore your surroundings, create unique strategies using the environment, disguise yourself to blend in the crowd, and strike when the timing is right, all through Agent 47âs eyes.
HITMAN World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 has been enhanced to completely immerse players during their missions. Now supporting dual-wielding, a wide array of actions and interactions have been added, including the possibility of performing actions with both controllers at the same time, active reloading, on-body weapon holstering, aiming through the sniperâs scope, and manual interactions to take disguises. Enhancements have been added to improve the core VR experience, such as room-scale implementation, spatial interactions to touch, grab, and position, integration of the PlayStation VR2 controllersâ adaptative triggers, and many more.
Players who already own HITMAN World of Assassination on PlayStation 5 will be able to buy an upgrade pack to unlock the PlayStation VR2 content for $9.99, âŹ9.99, ÂŁ8.99.
More details regarding the features and enhancements coming to HITMAN World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 will be coming later.
So then THIS is gonna be the big thing⢠of the Winter Roadmap I bet. Well, hopefully âone of themâ at least (since itâs a console exclusive addition)
The question of âwho was this made for?â was already raised quite a bit when the Quest 3 VR version launched, but this just exacerbates it even more for that version. Unlike the Quest 3, this version includes:
Every location in the World of Assassination, not just Hitman 3
Graphics that are on par with the normal version, not significantly downgraded
Immersive motions to perform actions instead of button prompts
I wonder what that means, manual disguise action? Rub your own arms to apply the disguise-cream like 47 does?
A new VR Version of Hitman, a new promise of ânew interactionsâ for VR⌠I hope this actually means something this time, but Iâm not gonna hold out hope given its track recordâŚ
I did see stuff like Placing the keycard in the Bangkok Door to open it, placing the USB in the computer in Hawkes Bay to plug it in, screwing open HBâs garage door override with a screwdriver, and using a lockpick to open a door featured in the big âINTUITIVE GESTURESâ title section of the trailer, so⌠maybe, finally, theyâve figured it out and not everything is gonna be button presses, but time will tellâŚ
Itâs either added gestures just for trailer flair, or itâs for-real actions you have to perform to complete the prompt.
The Sapienza Church Bell doesnât really show how âinteractingâ with that works, other than our familiar ringâŚ
I have a sneaking suspicion Sony commissioned this, like they did with the original VR mode. I hope itâs just a timed exclusive, itâd be a total waste of the people who worked on it to not have this on PC (even if it is paid! Iâd be happy to pay for this on PC).
They had a slot at state of play and it is a good showcase of PSVR2.
Ahahaha, haha, ohh, well I wouldnât say Sony themselves, but Iâm glad PSVR2 is being kept afloat by third parties, and Hitman is definitely a big name and a big draw for thatâŚ
Though unfortunately itâs the last platform to recieve it for now
XR Games arenât even credited on this release, (though I bet they still gave IOI input given this was probably worked on at the same time) so⌠yeah, gosh, yikes.
Fingers crossed we finally get the VR Hitman we deserve, and other platforms can get these enhancements tooâŚ
As far as I can tell, XR Games developed their VR version independent to IOI. Although IOI did help the XR team with questions about Glacier and what not.
This version was probably developed by IOI in-house.
I hope they bring this to PC version at some point. Reloaded was garbage and itâs really disappointing to see that they seemingly have a way better VR version getting released 3 months after Reloaded.
Jumping into video comment sections and reddit threads about this announcement is making me happy.
Lotta people cautiously optimistic about this one, even just hyped itâs finally gonna be available to VR2 owners.
Really hoping youâve got it right this time IOI.
Ohhh⌠he was so young, so naive. So full of sadness, thinking the day would never come⌠It HAS been 4 years after allâŚ
Anyway, I swear, even if this version is identical to every other VR version weâve had so far, Iâm beaming at this announcement. Just being able to experience the entire 21 locations of the trilogy at ground-level in 360° first-person (with actually good graphics) makes my PSVR2 investment a few months ago 1000% worth it IMO. This is like my absolute Number 1 title Iâd want to try in VR before I die.
68 days to December. Gotta look both ways before crossing a road.
EDIT: This is NOT a chicken joke lmao!
Yeah, Iâm not particularly happy about this. This is getting beyond a joke now.
Does this look better than the recent MQ3 port? Yes, though bear in mind that trailer was cut to hell and back to obscure just how bad that was. I canât trust their editing anymore. Though the PS4/5 are more powerful and better equipped for VR than the comparative low-power of the MQ3.
Iâm fine with timed exclusivity, Iâm fine with emergent technologies and all the drawbacks that entails. I am not fine with IO consistently making VR ports in an attempt to capitalise on a market, that, at best, is extremely niche and is focused primarily on PC (because, quelle surprise, you need a bunch of horsepower to drive the games), especially considering the current financial climate makes this hobby very expensive. Not to mention teasing features that are so obviously coming to the PC version later on. It leads into a sense of frustration on two sides (technically 5 sides if you count all the consoles) of stuff we know is coming but canât do anything about, other than look at it from afar. PC Gaming should not be getting such a raw deal when it comes to VR; something it is very good at doing.
Putting exclusivity on ports that are both niche and are ignoring what is arguably the biggest VR userbase is insulting now. And youâve done this three times; twice in the span of three weeks, which must be some kind of record!
This is the kind of behaviour I expect from EA or Ubisoft, not from IOI.
I know I sound angry, but Iâve had these frustrated feelings for a while now, and I donât even have VR (I like the technology, but again, the ecosystem is impenetrable to get into due to the price), so lord knows how PCVR players feel about all this.
