What? Nobody is saying that there shouldn’t be any post launch support or content, there’s just zero reason to gatekeep any progression in the game behind an online connection.
I can see why Contracts Mode or ETs need to be online, but why isnt it possible to unlock anything in the basegame without being online?
I say screw that. I want a full, complete game, up front, no new content later, no unlocks added in after the fact and requiring to be online. Give it all in one complete package, meant to be finished and unlocked at your own pace, isolated and singular. This games-as-a-live-service shit is tiring, annoying, inefficient, and a cash-grabbing scam. I hate that the industry has gone to this and the real talent behind game design seems to agree, with the CEOs and shareholders being the ones to make these decisions when they don’t care about the games, just the dollar signs. It’s bad enough the film and television industries have ended up this way; that the game industry is now like this is practically a crime.
I said nothing about having a connection or not, I was writing about the broader context of IO’s ethos around games as a service. If you read the full post I said I like the substantial stuff, not the gimmicky stuff. Fine if you disagree.
You can have that opinion, cool. I like that H3 released in 2021 and not two years later, and we then got to experience Freelancer, Ambrose, ETs, etc. as they came out. It means they had feedback and it gives the community cool stuff to look forward to. Makes my life as a fan more exciting.
As long as the initial package is substantial enough at release, and there’s no lying about what you pay for. H3 was on the smaller side, but it was still acceptable to me, especially with the big free updates.
Bow down to the mighty, holy, sacred comma, and you shall, if everything goes as planned, receive words, meanings, methods of communication, right into your consciousness, yes, yes, that’s how I, as a professional writer, write.

Anyways, 007’s marketing is so pathetic. These live service type incentives and the extremely low quality gifs of the trailer they pump out on socials are embarrassing.
The First Light YouTube channel just dropped a very short trailer to encourage people to wishlist the game. In the trailer we can now see what the Milestone 2 and 3 skin rewards are:
Not going to go into detail because the regular people here will have ideas as to what I’m referring to, but the way IO have been handling WoA for the last few years or so have made me want to avoid getting on this train at all costs. I love Hitman/WoA, but I hate what has become of IO as a company and where their priorities are.
I get that marketing departments run the world, but this is annoying. I’m a lunatic Hitman franchise fanboy so I am blind when they are over marketing those games. I love 007, but I’m not a lunatic fanboy so I can be more objective. It’s sorta making me not want to buy the game.
It’s a preorder, it’s not a target goal for a fundraiser for some kid who lost his parents in a car crash. No need for them to tell us how many have done it or set goals.
