Agent 17's Role in Hitman Silent Assassin

Two plotholes I find. One major, one minor.

So Sergei found 17 in the basement while exploring the Asylum.

Minor one is that the dead bodies are still lying around for so many days, when Sergei visits the asylum, despite a SWAT team being sent there. Even if we accept that 47 killed all SWAT members and asylum staff, would police not send more officers later on, after 47 escaped !!!

And how did Sergei find footage anyway so easily, because 47 never leaves evidence. He would obviously clean all CCTV before leaving the asylum…

Major plothole is that Agent 17 is still in the basement somehow all these days, alive. Why he agrees to work for Sergei is never explained…

But why did Sergei spend 300,000 $ per mission to hire 47, when he already has 17 with him? Yes, 17 is inferior but Sergei doesn’t know to what extent. It is weird when you already have a clone hitman with you, you would spend millions to hire another and even go to the trouble of kidnapping a priest.

And if Sergei knew that 17 is so inferior, why would he even attempt to kill 47 using 17?

I think Agent 17 must retconned into the story much later, because otherwise it makes no sense.

17 isn’t nearly as effective as 47, that’s why Sergei hired 47 for the jobs. 17 had 47’s training, but none of his enhancements and he can’t think for himself, so he’s only effective in a basic way, like being an excellent shot, but getting in where he needs to go like 47 is beyond him.

He sent 17 after him hoping that 17 was still good enough as an Ort-Meyer clone to get the drop on 47, who thought all the clones were dead.

The original idea I think is that Ort-Meyer had connections in the Romanian government and that’s why, despite the SWAT teams, no clean up has happened yet. We now know that Providence probably pulled on those strings as well.

It’s true 17 is comparatively inefficient, but Sergei or even Mr. X was not supposed to know that. In the first two St Petersburg missions, they could have hired 17 easily, as both are sniper missions. 17 could have done it as effectively as 47.

Poor Sergei. 600,000 $ wasted.

But another thing that doesn’t make sense is that why did 17 shoot at 47 in Terminal Hospitality before Sergei hires him to.

Sergei and Mr. X found 17 in the asylum and probably found Orr-Meyer’s info on him, and so knew the limitations of his usefulness. And 17 can’t make decisions for himself, that’s why he has to be ordered to go after 47. This is shown by how easily he ends up working for the cult that stole the nuke from Sergei, and is another reason why they didn’t use him except as a last resort, because he’s unreliable with his loyalty.
