It really felt all-encompassing when they hogtied the Constant right before blowing up the train in Romania.
Nah, but…this collaboration is bizarre. If it ever made sense for IOI to seek out this type of collab, it MIGHT have worked when Absolution was the newest game. He’s even doing the Abso pose in the promo pic.
This collaboration is definitely not a good fit. I guess they saw an opportunity to earn some decent money and took it. I wouldn’t necessarily say they are secretly doing bad, though it is a possibility.
It’s just brand dilution. Sure this mobile game might have more of a following in China which in itself is a powerhouse of a market to tap into, but at what cost?
Allowing one of the only things profitable about your company be used in egregious and shady micro-transaction money pit mobile games?
Sure you might get some decent returns from the collaboration, but there were other avenues to consider branching out this IP. Instead IOI branched out into China which currently stands its gaming market is now 70% mobile gamers compared to what it was in 2015.
But how many of the reported 100 million people who played state of survival actively still play the game religiously?
Again, why this? Why of all the possible collaborations you choose one that potentially might not net you much return when as it stands the market is so bloated and vast that this game doesn’t even land on any top position charts and reports for that market specifically.
The more I look into this, and how the mobile games have a stranglehold on chinas gaming market. And just seeing the charts from the market and how State of Survival doesn’t even get in the top 30 of popular titles for their market. I’m just in awe about how they landed here.
So instead of making a new Hitman game, IO are giving money to sex offenders, taking over half a decade to make a James Bond game, and shamelessly shoehorning 47 into whatever this mobile game shit is. Yuk!
I don’t know much about the Devs on this game and I just thought it was cool to see 47 getting put in some extra spotlight, so can somebody break it down for me, why is there some backlash for having 47 in this game?
I’m kinda drawing a blank as well, but from what I can gather: the game itself is, shall we say, “controversial,” so IOI partnering with this game and putting 47 in it is seen as them amplifying this problematic game, if I have it right.
It’s bad for the developers of Hitman to collab with a mobile game, especially of this shitty-a-quality. Read BlossomFox’s post above, and you’ll understand why it’s not exactly the best choice for a crossover.
If you do not see the issue with the Hitman brand being diluted by IO accepting mobile game deals such as these, especially when this basically confirms they do no background checks, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Okay, but the idea of a crossover is to be mutually beneficial? From what I can gather, Hitman fans are confused by the crossover, partly because of the stuff I’ve said above, but also because the genre’s don’t even make sense to mash together. So if Hitman fans aren’t going to play it, are mobile gamers going to play Hitman?
My money is on no. Not only because they won’t understand how to buy the damn game, but because there appears to be so little demographic crossover. I could be wrong, of course, But I’ve not seen any evidence to suggest otherwise.
This crossover is harmful to Hitman as a franchise and to the developers as a whole because it suggests that the developers will collaborate with anyone and everyone, so long as they get enough money out of it. This is why we had the Conor McGregor ET pack, and currently have the JCVD ET pack, despite both being known controversial figures. Their behaviour dilutes the Hitman brand, making it less “clean”, so any other company who has higher standards than, y’know, not trying to deceive their customers with misleading advertising, will be put off from ever collaborating with IOI, because IOI collaborated with unsavory companies and figures in the past.
I may as well ping @Combatglue, I’m curious on the rationale used here.
I mean sure but the overlap of players might be so radically small I am almost certain this is a case of the State of Survival people just giving IO a check and them taking it.
