Agent 47 is now in the mobile game: State of Survival

I…have so many questions.

(PS: No idea where else to put this, but it didn’t feel right putting it under Hitman: WOA).

Codename-24 did bring it up in game news but if it warrants more of a discussion I guess a new topic is the best place for it.

There is the Hitman News Thread I made.

State of Survival is an extremely predatory mobile game with micro-transactions, p2w, gambling features, and notoriously misogynistic advertising - and the Hitman crossover just dropped.

Unlocking 47 and his related cosmetics requires navigating a maze of different limited time currencies, conversion rates and gambling. I tried to install it and figure out how much it would cost but… it doesn’t work and I’m worried I might have installed a virus…

State of Survival has made hundreds of (often misogynistic) adverts with the ‘bit’ of getting 777 draws (gambling) to unlock a Lucky, a hero, for free. I get that these are really over the top and quite funny, but they are still just as disgusting and gross.

This is how they advertised The Walking Dead crossover btw:

They are using the original Silverballer!!!
I saw it first on their facebook page and I had to ask them if they’re ok…

this is a new low, and is the definition of selling out.

This is incredibly ironic considering a recent post I saw on here about IO not selling out.

My worry here is brand dilution; essentially slapping your name on anything just to get the name out there. Otherwise, this is a strange, strange collab all-round.

Oh yeah, State of Survival is a base-building game btw, not, as one might think, a PVE game.

At this point all you can do is laugh. Because its just a stupid decision after stupid decision now…

You’d think they were part of the American government.

“What in the hell are you doing?” - CivMale01, Hitman 2016

In seriousness though, I don’t really know what to say here. I can forgive a few bad decisions, especially when there’s a brand new CM who’s not familiar with the game and its community. Someone in that position will slip up here and there and do some unpopular stuff, and some people will always be way too quick to denounce them. I can accept that, I can forgive that.

But it’s been quite a while now, and I still don’t feel like there’s been much improvement. My respect for IO took a seriously harsh blow at the McGregor stuff and there hasn’t been much to counter that. That DLC, alongside the paid twitch sub suit that cost more than the Splitter DLC the suit was a recolor of, and now this… microtransaction packed mobile slop game? Why?

I dunno man, I try to stay optimistic but I can’t shake the feeling that this money-hungry stuff is just the direction it’s going to go, no matter what. No amount of funny unlockable shoe item is going to outweigh all this if it continues.

I’d love to be proven wrong! Change course, stop associating with old celebs with questionable pasts, and maybe things will start looking up again! But it’s going to be a fight to undo this damage to brand image, and right now it feels like IO is fighting their way to the bottom of the barrel…

(seriously I would’ve been SO excited for the silly shoe if not for all this)

dramatic irony, foreshadowing, etc.

You have to wonder how well IO are actually doing with moves like this.

They paint a picture that things are going well bragging about reaching 75 million players (most of which I’m sure are Free Starter Pack players that never gave IO a single cent), and yet they’re making decisions like Episode Sapienza, the nickel and diming their player base with $5 CelebrET DLCs, using controversial players like atrioc to promote the game and now this…

Why are they becoming more and more desperate to get more people to buy their game (and going to the point that its just embarrassing)? Makes me think things with Project 007 and Dragon aren’t going well and they’re panicking.

they literally had options, but really? A predatory money pit mobile “game”?

Fortnite Collaboration

could of been made into an operator in Call of Duty.

But this is the reality they’ve chosen.

Of course 47 has no issues with this. He’s only killed The Undying several times already.

this is just disappointing. its crazy to think how many people had to look at this and think it was a good idea before we got to this point. IO cant be this desperate, can they?

Could’ve been making Epic Games money (I mean I’m sure it must be lucrative and worth it to put your IP in there considering how many other major IPs already have) and yet they choose the low-road money-pinching Mobile slop.

And in a zombie game so you really know 47 is all about being a hired killer who kills people who are already dead. Wow. :money_mouth_face:
For shame, IOI. For shame.

(IOI isn’t the only big IP holder or brand to collab with State of Survival or FunPlus/KingsGroup but yeah. I’ve definitely seen the shady ads before and that’s left an ugly mark on it for me.)
Also check out this great description of the exciting zombie outbreak from their website! Wow!

This reminded me of the video I made about IO’s Sapienza edition, and one part of it (6:20) stands out more now; how they refuse to say no to anyone who asks.

Are we really this desperate to get our name out there?. At least FNAF is horror themed, so I can at least understand that company’s decision to collab with a mobile game, even if I still think it’s a poor decision.

I was talking to @AnthonyFuller about this on Discord last night, and they think IO are doing this collab because State of Survival has a strong following in China and parts of Asia.

Which, if that’s the reason, explains this mess pretty handily.

According to this announcement, they’ve also put Oybek Nabazov and Owen Cage into this as well as bosses apparently.

Also, zero effort given on IO’s end because they’re also referred to in the announcement with their codenames from when these targets were ETs - prior to their conversion into the released Patient Zero campaign. I can only assume IO sent this information through to FunPlus.

And they’ve put Diana in it too apparently.

arguably the greatest moment in the WOA trilogy was when 47 and Diana blew up a train together

Because … money. I may be wrong, but isn’t Hitman the only game that makes them money right now? We don’t know what the current progress on 007 is (could be done tomorrow, could take 5 more years) and to be honest, I don’t think that Project Fantasy will be a hit. So they need to make income somehow, I guess.

Not, that I want to defend some tactics to get that done, but I can’t say, that I’m surprised by anything nowadays. As far as I see it, the whole industry went down the gutter a long time ago with lootboxes and gambling and P2W and all that shit.

At least, all that is not part of the Hitman games, so let them get shit-money from some shit-mobile-game. If it helps keeping the game I want to play clean from that stuff, I don’t care much, to be honest.

They co-opted the Lore of Patient Zero AND got their codenames wrong!

Okay, that’s quite funny.
