Ambrose Island - Pre-release Discussion

Companies, even beloved game companies, are not in the business of spending resources to give things away for free. Ok maybe it’s not to attract new players so much, but it’s definitely a calculated PR move.

I don’t understand this. These communities exist due in part that every other community exist; they appeal to niche genres and interests. There is nothing wrong with speedrunning a video game.

Also I think calling IO Interactive a bootlicker leaves zero room for anyone in these communities to improve, rather you’re putting them down for the sake of disliking it.

I don’t mind speedrunners to be honest how they do it i don’t know but i agree with you

Like I said, I’m mostly just guessing. :joy: I’m also positive I’m overestimating how big they’re planing on making it but we won’t really know until they see fit to show us (and I’m ok with that too) :man_shrugging:

How so? I am sure there were some very useful bug reports coming from players with a deep understanding of the mechanics. Besides that I don’t know what they could have influenced to a greater degree.

I know I’m being a bitch and should be grateful we’re getting a free new map (and I am grateful) but is anyone else a little worried there won’t be any unique/cinematic kills?

I think there will not be any cinematics at all. No cutscenes or anything.

I don’t know, I’m sceptical because it’s free. I mean, how extensive can it be if it costs nothing? I kinda expect it just to be a bunch of reskins, reused dialogues (except the targets) and that’s it.

My expectations are very low but im still excited, I swear

I understand your doubt but IO have a record of delivering excellent stuff. I’m just seriously hoping they don’t skim on the epic kills due to H3 having the lowest number of them in the trilogy.

I doubt the fact that it’s free would rob it of cinematic kills. And they did take the time to put that double hot tub drowning cinematic in Haven, so there’s a good chance there’d be at least one for Ambrose.

We surprisingly had some new voice lines when it came to Berlin Egg Hunt or the many H3 ET’s and they costed nothing.

We also know Jane Perry went into the sound booth some months ago – either to record for Ambrose or Freelancer (or both). So, there’s gotta be something new from Diana, at some point in the future.

If IOI is stressing how “important” this thing is to fill in some gap in the pre-Hitman 3 story, I feel like that’s gotta mean lots of dialogue at least or bookending cutscenes at most. It’d probably be hard to come up with a storyline for whatever this is filling in with re-used voice lines

They can just give ownership of Hitman 1+2 levels at will tho since the whole trilogy is one download. IO could easily lock Freelancer behind one payment for everything

Just realized that, no matter at what point during H2 it takes place, if it’s after Whittleton Creek and before Dubai, that’s going to be four islands in a row that 47 goes to. Ambrose and Haven are both in the Indian Ocean, Isle of Sgail is in either the southern Arctic Ocean or the northernmost of the Atlantic, and the New York bank, if we’re to assume that it is located in Manhattan, which it likely is given the layout and how all the action is always in Manhattan, even though the bank map is not laid out as an island, Manhattan itself is an island, so the bank is still on one. So that’s going to be Vermont, then island, island, island, island, then Dubai. Weird.

Meh, the Earth is an island, kinda. It’s all islands one way or another. Of the 8 locations in Hitman 2, half of them are islands anyway so no big.

I think in common parlance, whenever anyone says “New York”, Manhattan is probably what they are most likely referencing. It’s a lot more uncommon to say New York and really mean the Bronx (the only non-island part of the city, I think).

There’s no detective work to be done as to whether the bank is in Manhattan. It is in Manhattan.

and later this year… Return to :monkey: :desert_island: !

I feel like it’ll at least have a video briefing/cutscene explaining the context of the mission and the targets, which I’m all for cause the Hitman 3 briefings were epic.

The Dartmoor briefing is my favorite; it’s so good!

The reason they made it free was bc all the new stuff is 30$, so the fanbase got angry.

With apologies to @Mini, I absolutely love the post-Dartmoor cinematic, You Owe Him Nothing. The small nod from a merc-disguised 47 to Grey, Grey’s “walk away!” plea to 47, and then the look of panic in the eyes of the guard who’s just about to be capped by 47 before Grey intervenes and renders the [likely doomed] rescue attempt moot is just a fucking amazing sequence. Would genuinely make for a memorably thrilling moment in a high-budget Hollywood action movie, let alone in a cutscene from an independent games studio in Denmark.
