Ambrose Island - Pre-release Discussion

True. Telltale games had success with an episodic release of the Walking Dead in 2012 and Life is Strange now.

What is true for IOI is that episodic released content is more common and less controversial in 2022 than 2016.

tbh I expect they had everything planned/written in advance and just recorded all the dialogue for that stuff when they did everything for the game instead of paying people to come back and record barely anything as some characters, like Edward Carlisle in The Procurers, only had two or three new lines. Wouldn’t be cost effective to pull Richard Stemp back in for that.

Though I do agree with Mini in some regard, given that this is being released for free - there will be some parts where IO would likely reuse dialogue (mainly civilian stuff) and having less NPCs standing together talking to each other where possible to keep costs down. I can’t imagine they’ve produced this on a similar budget to what New York/Haven Island had.

Life is Strange was by Dontnod, also the last game in the series was a full game by Deck Nine.

Grey could´ve lived if 47 still had his point shooting ability :unamused:

Grey could have lived if they’d killed Edwards after he told them the names of the Partners and to follow the money to the bank. He had literally no other information for them after that, they should have left the poison chip in his neck and 47 should have pushed the damned button once he’d spilled it.

I’m still pissed that Grey didn’t turn out to be the main antagonist like everyone was speculating.

The Haven’s end cutscene strongly hinted that Grey had something to do with the Constant’s escape. Then H3 comes and says that Edwards bribed someone from the crew and that’s it.

For a second, I totally forgot the level takes place prior to Hitman 3.

Will be interesting to see what gaps it fills in terms of the story.

That would have been cool to see.

I just think this mission was part of H2/H3 but got shelved due to budget / time constraints before H3 launch. So we got new Zealand instead. Hawks bay was replacement of Ambrose island.

He also could’ve lived had he just called it quits after killing Cross and stealing his fortune :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Could’ve enjoyed retirement sipping piña colada on the beach :tropical_drink::tropical_drink: :beach_umbrella:

That makes no sense for his character at all. He has repeatedly been honest with 47, and has actively tried to not deceive him (See; literally every H2 cutscene and Birth of the Hitman). He is loyal to 47 to a fault. And the one time he does this (at the end of HAVEN), Grey tells him once their plan to take the partners down is in full swing.

Him being an antagonist would be a twist for the sakes of it. It’d go against everything we’ve seen, and it’d be like the Game of Thrones finale; being the twist for the sakes of it. And that famously didn’t go down well.

It wasn’t strongly hinted, it was ambiguous. We didn’t know why he didn’t tell 47 at that time, people just attempted to fill in the gaps with implications that weren’t there.

I disagree. As far as writing goes, there were plenty of avenues regarding creativity where Grey’s betrayal could believably have been implemented into the story given what we know of his ruthless nature, up to a certain point in the narrative. It being a twist for the sake of it is an easy argument that too many people are accustomed to using nowadays; also, as the motivation of the twist is non-existent, there is no foundation for you to say it wouldn’t have worked.

The writers did a good job because while Grey always was honest to 47, we as the players never really trusted him. In the end he was a militia leader and murderer. The Haven cutscene was playing with that while he again was honest: It went to plan that the Partners were identified, no matter if the Constant is escaped. That was actually also a character development for Grey, he became sloppy about the surroundings when being with 47. If he was solo as before he surely would not have underestimated the Constant.

The writer’s did a brilliant job, from the opening cutscene right up to the end…of Mendoza :stuck_out_tongue:

I personally would have preferred if Grey had never turned out to be 47’s brother clone. In H1, when he was just the Shadow Client and had some connection to 47’s past, he was far more interesting and threatening. I think it would have turned out better for the story if he had stayed a villain, sharing that role with Providence, with 47 trying to take them both down. A clone with a bad history with 47, or Ort-Meyer’s long lost actual son, could have been his identity instead.

Let me get this straight. Your only counterargument is that twists for the sake of twists is an overused argument therefore invalid? You have given no real counterargument to warrent calling it “Silent Assassin rating achieved. Mr. Buttons Fabulous Response unlocked.” It is just cringy.

Dribbleondo makes a good point about Grey’s loyalty and it is backed up by ingame cutscenes and the tie-in comics to WoA.

He’s always been sloppy around 47, a similar thing happens in the comics where instead of thinking of a proper backup plan to take down the institute, they go in gun blazing. 47 impedes Grey’s judgement because Grey can’t seperate his friendship with 47 with his tactical mindset.

As you said, when he’s away from 47, he can think more rationally. He doesn’t really care for the Militia, and his only reliable ally is Olivia, but that’s friendship through circumstance.

I dare say even Carpathian was well written…because it was. If nothing else, it did a very good job at bookending the story.

I know you’re joking, by the by.

Unfortunately, this is not you getting it straight. That was my secondary counterargument; read it and try again please. I will warrant one more chance for you to behave like an adult in response to my side of the debate. Or I will ignore you for overlooking it’s most crucial elements.
