If you save before opening it, you can reload and it will be closed but you’ll still have the challenge unlocked. I don’t know if it’s still closed upon starting a new game in that location, though.
Completing a saved prior to unlocking the shortcut seems to save the shortcut as locked once again.
I opened the elevator doors in Dubai, then previously loaded a save prior to opening and completed the mission. My next run, the elevator doors were closed again. It was only after opening them and completing the mission that they were open again immediately in that next run.
I agree 100%. Did not like the feature, it feels uninspired and as you said, it spoils the immersion.
I want to reset the shortcuts as well. I opened the lobby door in Dubai thinking I could close the door afterwards but the door is permanently opened
They should make the shortcuts be in their default state on Master difficulty.
You’d still want to unlock them to complete the challenges and you could then enjoy the shortcuts on Casual and Professional difficulty, but also have the option to experience the level the way it was meant to be played on Master difficulty. It would fit in nicely with the list of added difficulties on Master mode.
I like that idea. Seems the way to go for me. I hope they really consider this.
I think another way to go would be the shortcuts only working on alternative starting locations. Default could have everything at zero. Dubai kinda already does this with the elevators.
That’s what I wonder. They spent a lot of time crafting these levels, entry points, guard routes and constraints, and then throw a whole layer of holes into that system?
Which version of the map is the one “that let’s me experience it the way it was meant to be played”? It surely can not be both versions.
Why? First is the explorer mode, and the one with extra holes is the mastered mode.
Sure. Problem is you can’t go back.
If they made the Shortcuts have their default states on Master difficulty, you could choose.
Maybe they had not the idea to do that for Master mode, you might try suggesting that.
Not quite true. Load a pre-unlock save and you’re set.
If you don’t have a save, well then you can’t go back.
I don’t keep a bunch of saves, and most people probably don’t either, so while in theory you can say it’s not quite true, in practice it is. ![]()
I certainly can’t go back at this point.
Why? First is the explorer mode, and the one with extra holes is the mastered mode.
What’s mastered about it?
The mastery, duh.
Seems to me that if the devs put these shortcuts there, and they reward players for unlocking them, then the way it was “meant to be played” is with the shortcuts opened - full stop.
Ye I’ve just noticed today that opening the elevator doors in Dubai via the main terminal is also classed as a ‘Shortcut’ so the doors then are automatically open every time you play the level which seems extra silly.
Ye that’s another thing I noticed. As soon as we unlock a starting location that seems to get set as the ‘default’ whenever we replay that level which makes zero sense story wise when the cutscene before levels shows 47 entering via one location then all of a sudden in the level he is dressed as a chef or a staff member somewhere else.
This phased me big time when I first replayed Dubai and started in the building itself in the suit because I thought that meant we only got to play that cool opening outdoor sequence one time
But I don’t mind this too much because I just change the starting location back to the original default one whenever I replay a level.
Hitman 3 is designed around having shortcuts so they are part of map design and they are placed in places that doesn’t break game design.
I’ll put in this way it’s like if the road under the fountain in Sapienza were closed in Hitman 1 but after that you discover that route there’s really no point in non using that because make it easier to introduce in the mansion and hitman 1/2 are full of “shortcuts” like this… only this time the developers choose to undiscover the way behind the shortcuts first and then make available for all the other play through…
For me it’s no game changing because it’s like there always been shortcuts in previous games only that you don’t have to unlock those first.
Another thing in Santa tuna you have to entertain the heavily guarded mansion, well you can do this the hard way through disguises or other approaches OR you can use the conveniently placed nearby ladder that basically is a shortcut for entering the mansion, cmon guys the game already have those shortcuts before only that aren’t called like that
Ye but a lot of players don’t seem to like it and others do which is the main issue which means it really should be resettable in some way to appease both. Those old shortcuts you mentioned were always accessible as in they weren’t unlocked and then available on replays which is the difference.
A good option would be to allow 2 settings:-
- One which resets all of them them
- An option which allows you to set them as persistent or non persistent. With non persistent they could essentially act as shortcut exits like regular doors that unlock from the inside which is one of their main uses
