Ask HMF anything

I treat questions like that no different from the normal “hi, how are you?” you get all the time. They don’t really want to know and don’t care what you’re doing. If I bother to answer it’s just “eh, family stuff” and leave it at that.

Never underestimate how awkward and insecure people are. I used to feel the same way when being asked vaguely personal questions; I then realized a while back that people are just trying to fill the empty air, and they reach for the most basic/trite/cliché questions, because that’s what everyone else is asking them.

People are basic. I used to hate being asked “how ARE you??” because it was like, man fuck off, I got a lot going on and I’m not going to get into it. So now, like everyone else, I say “I’m GOOD. Busy! What about YOU?”

It’s just small talk. Some of them sorta care, some don’t. Some are curious. It doesn’t particularly bother me, but :crown: :dragon: :fire: hates small talk.

Language evolves with time. Things don’t mean what they literally mean. To a lot of people the correct response to “how you doing?” is simply to say “how you doing?” back. :joy:

Does anyone else have multiple (bell) notifications almost every day on YouTube for the past 3 or 4 days?

I don’t know if I did something when I might’ve almost dozed off while sitting at the computer… probably watching a YouTube video. Like I must’ve accidentally clicked something and turned something on. Or it’s just something YT is doing for everybody now.

FWIW, I should have only 2 channels (I think) where I definitely do have notifications turned on, but none of those channels were in these notifications.

Does anyone happen to know a coat similar to Grey’s coat I could buy online?

Anyone else having trouble uploading a photo to HMF? I’m trying to and I can not. I’m using an iPhone with safari as the browser if that stuff matters.

Some specific pictures, I’m not allowed to upload. To begin with I thought it was due to shooting in RAW. That apparently wasn’t the case.

Ok. I’ll see if maybe I can do it from a computer once I am home. Thanks.

Edit: it appears to be working now from my phone. I didn’t change any settings or anything.

When I view this forum on my phone (using the forum app), there are at least 2 forum users with avatars that appear almost all white. They will appear normal if I touch/tap them to view the larger version.

I’d “at” them, but…

Anyway. Has anyone else noticed this? Any idea why this happens?

An interesting question popped up in my head:

What you would/could do within a minute?

I would eat lunch in a minute.

I could eat lunch in a minute.

I’m gonna eat lunch in a minute.

Count 60 seconds.

I think I’m gonna answer this question in a more fun way:

  • 10 seconds: the time it sometimes take to get out of bed from the moment I wake up.
  • 20 seconds: buy a snack from the snacks machine.
  • 30 seconds: to actually start driving from the moment I get into my car.
  • 40 seconds: time it takes me to get into a full nice conversation with a person I’ve never met.
  • 50 seconds: how long it takes me to get lost in my mind about a situation that never happend.
  • 60 seconds: heat up food in the microwave.

Anger my better half without yet realising what I said/did.

:crown: :dragon: :fire: is the the love of my life, but I still sometimes have zero idea how everything was fine a minute ago and now it isn’t.

This is going to be a bit of a bummer/serious question. But this is the best topic for it, and I’m actually curious of what everyone here would say.

Last week, at work, I had a conversation about climate change, projections of it, modellings, preparedness, and whatnot.
More importantly about what we perceived as the de-facto main projection that institutions are settling on for their decision making.
We ended up talking of what the “normal” perception of it is. The one people see as the future reality.

So,

“What do you think the current actual projection of climate change to the end of the century is, the one you would use if you had to take decisions with?”

Well I don’t know, but the planet will be just fine regardless.

Currently there is the “Hot Model Problem” going on in the academic world of climate change. A certain factor that is used to predict how quickly the earth heats up might be quite higher than the majority of the models predicted in the past.

However, the science goes well over my head so I too can only rely on formats that break it down for me. But I guess politicians are not in a much better position.

Is there a thread that just lists each targets route? Or a place somewhere else online to find that info?

I don’t want a walkthrough but I have spent 20 min running around Paris looking for Sergei Larin and it’s annoying. I vaguely remember spending a small eternity looking for him when he was the first ET ever. Some routes I remember but not his lol. I just keep running from floor 2 and the attic and he is nowhere to be found.

I know that he goes to the rooms containing the art supplies on the second floor (1st floor for those in Europe, right?). It’s the same room that the auction staff guy looking at his phone is in. There’s a wine glass on the table next to an easel. Then he goes into the room adjacent and looks at the white board for a bit before wandering off. Maybe that’s helpful?
