Ask HMF anything

Thanks bro :handshake:

I’m not sure if it’s because I’m trying to use (or more accurately, apply) mods in H3, but is anyone else having excessively long cloud sync times with Epic?

Edit: I wonder if it’d hurt anything if I just switch off cloud syncing?

Today, for the first time, I did the mission stories in Whittleton Creek (I only did the one with real estate agent). I don’t know why I never did them before. But I have a question.

Grey calls Janus nurse a “male nurse” and I was just wondering if this is common in the english language? Because I always thought “nurse” describes male and female nurses. Or did he said it so 47 knows it’s a man and he can take his clothes?

In germany we differentiate between male and female but I always thought in english its the same for all genders, so I just want to know if I did it wrong the whole time

And I was laughing when Grey said about the gardener who wants to get rid of the moles "I applaud his enthusiasm WTF?

Nurse is a gender neutral term. 30 years ago people who assume female for nurse just like they would assume male for doctor, but not so much anymore.

I think Grey said “male” so the player knows they can take the costume.

I see. There are some words like actor or actress, right? But some words don’t separate between male and female. In germany we don’t have many words which are like that  doctor is one of them. We add “Frau (Female) Doktor” or “Herr (Male) Doktor” so we can differentiate between them. But normally we add a -in at the end of the words so we know it’s female, like Schauspieler and Schauspielerin (actor and actress), Politiker and Politikerin (politician) and so on. German is complicated

Nurse is gender neutral, he is calling Lafayette a “male nurse” to degrade him since older people like Janus would still see nursing as a profession for women.

Fun Fact: Nourish, nurse and nutrient all share the same route word.

i still have nightmares from all the gendered words and things we had to learn in school

Isn’t Mini saying that GREY is calling him a Male nurse though?

I agree with Yacob that was probably in the script to remind players it’s an available disguise.

Maybe Grey is just a chauvinist as well?

But yeah I feel like it is a whole “47 please follow the lights to the training facility” thing, I have no clue why they did it because a unique disguise on a man related to a target means it is up for grabs.

Yeah well to be fair, he kinda is an “old people”, too :face_with_hand_over_mouth::sweat_smile:

But I guess it’s really like you all said, for the players knowing that they can use the disguise :woman_shrugging:

Even as a German I sometimes have the feeling that I don’t understand this language  and then someone from bavaria comes and I’m just like “what did he say?!”

ah accents, they can make one language sound like a completely different one.
funny thing is, i can understand german when its spoken pretty well, as a lot of it is very similar to dutch, its just that the grammar is so incredibly complex and unnecessarily gendered for no reason that its really difficult to learn and speak properly

One other possibility, we know that Grey and 47 grew up in the asylum and the institute in Romania. Not only were any nurses that Ort-Meyer employed to help take care of the clones likely almost all female in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, but we know that Ort-Meyer was of a fascist mindset, wanting to use the clones to enslave the world (he only joined Providence to get access to their money and resources), so he probably would have only wanted female nurses to go along with that kind of thinking. 47 and 6 likely grew up with no female doctors or orderlies, and no male nurses, and both have likely stayed away from the medical sectors of life due to bad memories (what few 47 had), and so are probably aware of the increasing balance between genders for each of these positions, but are likely still so accustomed to the idea of nurses being predominantly women that Grey felt the need to point it out because it’s still an oddity in his psyche.

That’s just conjecture, but I think it makes sense with both men’s histories.

Yes we have some words which designate profession that have male and female forms. Your example of Actor/Actress is correct, we also have policeman/policewoman although more and more you will simply hear police officer.

The vast majority of these terms are gender neutral though. Doctor, nurse, judge, attorney, governor, store keeper, teacher, driver, pilot, mercenary, soldier, accountant, programmer, clerk, libertarian, gardener etc etc.

Quick question. I just noticed that the Krugermeiers emit a flash when fired, but iirc, that wasn´t the case. Is it caused by yesterday´s patch or had it been there before?

Alright. What is this ‘Peacock’ thing I keep reading about here in the forum? The first instance I caught was on the Nexus mod website for the Sarajevo 6 mod, and something about a file(?) that needs to be used with ‘peacock’.

I’ve googled (*)it. And the only thing I find is the only thing I’ve heard about. A streaming service that has (mostly) NBC shows (just like the peacock mascot).

(*)=Peacock Gaming. Like Stadia, I guess.

So what is it, actually?
