We’re doing it pretty fairly since he himself is the person that set the expectation of 24 hours notice minimum last year. Otherwise it would just be general feedback and not specifically directed at him for holding him accountable for, yet again, breaking the promises he’s made in the past.
They usually only do this maintenances whenever there is a patch so yeah, this most likely an update and roadmap hopefully. It’s strange they didn’t announced the roadmap aswell when it’s so obvious that’s coming.
Hopefully we get some meaningfull fixes this time.
It also just plain looks unprofessional when you announce very important information at the end of the work day, as if the audience will just have to deal with it. Yeah, you announced it, but at the wrong time of day so a lot of people won’t see it. I am sick and tired of that mindset.
And I wouldn’t be so annoyed at these late update and maintenance notices if the game had a proper offline mode that would be actually satisfying to play during the downtime. But the game currently doesn’t because the company has put it off repeatedly with vague assurances that aren’t even proper assurances. There’s no scoring, no Paid escalations, ETA missions, or Sniper Assassin, so I can’t even play what I paid extra for! It was unacceptable in 2016, it was farcical in 2018-19, and I would argue it is an act of delusion towards your users that the company thinks that offline mode is acceptable as-is in 2025. It is not.
So yeah, you could see this as me being angry yet again at IO and Combatglue for broken promises of better communication. But these actions reveal all the other problems the game has to endure during its downtime. This is no longer a funny forum joke or silly “Oh yeah, there’s an update tomorrow, sorry we couldn’t tell you earlier!” situation. It’s outright bad for users to be treated like this.
If your game is always online and/ or a live service, you need to give fair warning for when the game goes down; 12 hours is not good enough as people are either working or are about to sleep and might not have access to the internet.
Early heads up or not. Wouldn’t just knowing that there’s a maintenance update be enough to accept the fact of the matter? What’s so hard about putting the game down for 3 to 4 hours?
As usual, it’ll still be down by the time I get off from work, plus a couple hours to wait. Good thing I have plenty of other games to keep me entertained/busy in the meantime. I mean, if I’m not on social media and/or watching something on YouTube. So glad that I don’t have a Rube Goldberg’esque contraption that needs the game to be online to keep my life-support running.
Because those 3-4 hours will be in a few timezones where players will want to play the game and were not informed of downtime because, as mentioned, the maintenance notice was pushed so late at night. It leads to a feeling of betrayal and annoyance; betrayal because they thought the game would be live, and annoyance for the announcement being so late. And I’m well past that point.
Call me old fashioned, but games should have workable offline modes and if the games go down, they should be half-decent to not annoy players who wanted to play during downtime.
I’m happy you won’t be affected by this Tetra, but I don’t think that absolves IO for their mistakes in communication. I beg of you to look at the bigger picture here.
It’s…only reasonable, I daresay, for warning to be given well in advance (especially for updates/scheduled maintenance)
One live-service (online) game I’ve been playing for a while releases an article detailing downtime before an update, ~3 days (72 hrs) before the scheduled downtime.
What IO are doing here in terms of communication..is frankly odd and not in line with what I’d expect from a live service game.
I am wondering if this update could’ve been predicted. Did they ever say they were going to have a fall update? Fall/Autumn officially began 3 days ago (for most(?) of the Northern Hemisphere). Updates almost always happen on a Thursday. This is the first Thursday after the start of Fall.
Few months from now that awesome is gonna be gone. I won’t complain about the roadmap cause it’s literally just the same as it ever was the last few roadmaps so I’ll just say the worst thing is that the Bruce Lee Pack is time limited.
