Bartholomew Hornswoggle Questions

I typically avoid side missions that have no manual or autosave features…but in the case of this particular set of Haven missions,I figured that there would be a save option(due to the size & difficulty of this mission.)
I am stuck on the first of the 3 missions,as I have only been able to get as far as retrieving the treasure map and killing most of the guards at the mansion(where the sea treasure is located)…but there is just too damn many of these bastards & I had run completely out of ammo,in the process anyway.I had noticed that there is an auto-save(when you reach certain areas on the islands)…but when you get killed, there is no option to load the save points? WTF!?? Is IOI serious with this crap? How in the bloody hell can one get through this entire ordeal without dying??
Has anyone every managed to complete this mission? If so…how on earth, did you achieve this??

What do you mean? The treasure is on bradley’s little island. The map piece at the mansion is quite out of the way and shouldn’t need any killing

This thing you playing is called Escalation Contract.
Only story missions can be saved to continue from saved point.
Escalations and any other side contracts (like Elusive Targets or (Featured) Contracts) are not saved even if there is might be a message of “saving”. That particular message indicates that your game data is sent to servers, not saved to your hard drive for ability to continue playing from that point.
This might be confusing, I know. But we have what we have

Obviously, there are 3 different areas on the map, with 3 different items to obtain…in order to complete the mission(and one of those items is located within the grounds of the property of the mansion.)
In the area where the mansion is…there is an item(whatever it is)…is located in the shallow area of water…but when I walked up to it,I could not grab it(indicating that it is beneath the surface.) I then found a hatch close by(which presumably leads to an underwater cave where the item is located.Since the hatch is locked,I figured that one of the mansion guards(or some area within the mansion)…has the key to unlock the hatch. So I surmised that the easiest way to obtain the device to unlock the hatch,is to eliminate the guards(whereas trying to sneak past everyone is entirely too risky,as if I get caught,I’d be surrounded by guards and taken out in an instant.)

Oh, it’s in a bottle you have to shoot or throw something at, on the surface

Thanks for clearing that up…but I think it’s completely illogical for IOI to offer so many options for their story missions(various difficulty settings & save points)…while offering no options for missions such as this one.
I don’t know about anyone else here, but I have better things to do,than to spend several hours busting my hump, trying to survive(just to obtain 1 of 3 treasures)…only to have all of my work lost(and also having to experience this countless times!

To be honest I also do not understand why there is no save option in the whole game

You didn’t try to look for an alternative way underground or any keycards that maybe lying around somewhere? You didn’t even look at the map to see what’s below the hatch and how else you could get there? Instead you decided the least risky option would be to getting into a firefight with the guards. And when that didn’t work out you tried it again and again.

How did you manage to finish the main game? Did you ran through every level gun-blazing? It’s doable but that’s basically choosing to play the game in the hardest way possible. Hitman is a stealth game! Using disguises make it a lot easier and allows you to walk past most guards.

Have you tried taking out a lone guard and putting on his outfit? There’s a one near the sea plane next to a bunch of foliage. Even if some of the other NPCs spots you, you can drag the body into the grass, put on the disguise and quickly sneak/run anyway without your disguise being compromised. And if an Enforcer spots you, just run away. The NPC will give up after a while.

For someone who doesn’t usually play the escalations, you picked both a fun and a hard one. The next two levels are tricky if you try to complete it silent assassin but lots of fun. I must have missed the cannon shot 100 times. Good luck with it.

As I had said,I found a hatch leading to some subterranean passage…but I figured that I needed to subdue and/or kill the guards to obtain a keycard or make my way into the Mansion to find a crowbar…in order to unlock the hatch. Keycards aren’t always lying around and if there was one lying around inside the mansion,I could easily get smoked trying to find one.
The most logical & gratifying strategy for me,is to subdue or kill whoever I can(as if I do this,it exponentially increases my chances of infiltrating the mansion)…rather than making hundreds of attempts trying to sneak past EVERBODY.Do you have any clue how absurdly difficult it is,to sneak past an entire island of heavily armed guards(with no checkpoints or manual saves) without being detected??? Yes…I have used disguises and it works to a degree…but there are still certain guards that have more detection skills than others and if even one guard detects you…more often than not,you have an entire army of mansion guards and even other security forces from neighboring areas coming after you.
Did it ever occur to you, that you can get caught by other guards(even when you are dragging a body into the grass??) It’s happened to everyone at some point.Just for the record,I have dragged bodies into secluded areas(when the opportunity presented itself & I was reasonably free from danger)…but obviously, such stealth methods do not work in every situation.
Yes…I know it’s a friggin’ STEALTH game…but 100% stealth is very boring and not my my playing style.I use a certain amount of stealth to sometimes sneak past guards,in order to find a good spot to stage a stand-off with the guards and kill them all and in doing so,I have plenty of ammo to retrieve from the pile of corpses. There must be arounf a 100 guards on Haven island and you expect me to keep them of my *ss with ammo from just one gun?
Unlike a lot of other games,Hitman has a limited amount of enemies & once you whittle down the superior numbers or kill them all,it really simplifies things.
Yes…gun-blazing is my style(as it’s fun, exciting and easier for me,because I’m GOOD at it.) Yes…I used this method throughout the main missions(on the Hard difficulty setting) and managed to get through 90% of Absolution and Hitman 1,2 & 3 in only a month’s time.

I’d say it only took that long because you weren’t going for stealth. I have to agree though, haven’s a nightmare with infiltration, especially around the mansion where you get seen through half a dozen solid walls.

I now realized that my last comment was rude. I apologize for hat.

It can be really difficulty especially in Suit Only. But in my opinion is still easier than getting into a firefight. Because if you get spotted you can just let the guards escort you out of the trespassing area. Even in a hostile area running away is usually smarter than getting into a firefight.

Because if you fail the sneaking you can try again, if you fail into the firefight you’ve lost all the progress.

but there are still certain guards that have more detection skills than others and if even one guard detects you…more often than not,you have an entire army of mansion guards and even other security forces from neighboring areas coming after you.

Usually when that happens and there are to many NPCs around to take the guard out, it’s best to run out of sight and hide in a crate or closet. Or they just get some corners and distance between you and the guard. Sure the NPCs around the guard who spotted you, while most likely also see through your disguise now, but that’s arguably still better than getting into a gunfight with every guard in your surroundings.

Did it ever occur to you, that you can get caught by other guards(even when you are dragging a body into the grass??) It’s happened to everyone at some point.

Yes, that has happened to anyone. In that case you either have to take out the potential witness(es) quickly or run away. Sometimes if only a civilian spotted you, you can wait for him or her to run to the nearest guard and then quickly take the outfit of the NPC you took out. Sure they’re going to find the naked body later, but your disguise remains intact.

There must be arounf a 100 guards on Haven island and you expect me to keep them of my *ss with ammo from just one gun?

Again, the best approach is to avoid fights with guards as much as possible. Gun fights are doable but Escalations aren’t the best place for it because of the lack of saving.
