Bring back human shields

Since this game is still getting updates, and even some big additions like the co-op mode are expected, I wanted to propose human shields being integrated back into the game. Ever since I played Blood Money I considered this feature something that should be a part of every future game, but weirdly Woa didn’t include it.

The way I would reimplement the feature is as follows:

1 - When you’re right behind an npc with an equipped 1 handed firearm, by pressing E you would take them hostage

2 - There would be multiple things you could do in this state:

- Pressing E would allow you to open doors while walking with the human shield

- Left Click would make you shoot your gun

- Pressing R would allow you to reload your weapon

- Q would allow you to do a quick knockout. Holding Q near a wardrobe/wooden crate would automatically hide the person after the knock out

- Pressing F would do a quick neck snap. Holding F near a wardrobe/wooden crate would automaticaly hide the person after the neck snap

- Pressing Space would allow you to throw the hostage

- Pressing X near a toilet would allow you to drown the hostage

- Pressing E near a railing/body dump spot would allow 47 to quickly knock out the hostage, then dump them

3 - Guards would only shoot at you if you expose your sides/back to them, or if you injure/kill one of them. They wouldn’t have an internal countdown where they would shoot regardless of the situation like they did in Absolution. Walking speed while holding the hostage should be the same as when you drag bodies

4 - The animations of grabbing the human shield, knocking them out and snapping their neck could be copied from Absolution. Animations for reloading and throwing targets would need to be made, with Blood Money being used as an inspiration

@IOI_Artjoms could you show this to the dev team?

Lurking mode, deactivated.

That list of moves would have to be rewritten for controller users (and console users anyway).

Edit: Or just kept simple, which might require picking and choosing what stays.

Yet, one thing that Abs had that sort of helps… The point shooting.

There is a MUST_HAVE_MOD! for the next best thing.

It slows down time, but instead of marking targets to shoot in an awesome cinematic, you shoot them one-by-one (assuming you aimed well enough).

IOI implemented the ‘Throw melee objects at cameras mod’ into the game. It’d be a dream come true if they also found a way to put this mod into it (and make it controller friendly, maybe even implement the aim assist function).

A side note: I removed my `/~ key because I would accidentally touch it instead of the 1 key, and it was getting me in big trouble! It was opening another mod menu that I only ever used for Freelancer variation (and I haven’t played that since I had to remove that one file so I could get past an eternal black screen).

I don’t think making the controls work for controller/consoles should be too hard. I will be using the xbox controls here, but the same can be done with the playstation equivalent:

- Pressing Y while being behind an npc with an equipped one handed gun would allow you to take them hostage

- Pressing Y would allow you to open doors while walking with the human shield

- RT would make you shoot your gun

- Pressing RB would allow you to reload your weapon

- X would allow you to do a quick knockout. Holding X near a wardrobe/wooden crate would automatically hide the person after the knock out

- Pressing A would do a quick neck snap. Holding A near a wardrobe/wooden crate would automaticaly hide the person after the neck snap

- Pressing B would allow you to throw the hostage

- Pressing Y near a toilet would allow you to drown the hostage

- Pressing Y near a railing/body dump spot would allow 47 to quickly knock out the hostage, then dump them

Yes, I agree fully. It would be great to have more options when things go south. Although WoA improved on a lot of things, the combat and gunplay in WoA felt to me like major downgrades from Absolution.

This might be a subjective thing, but in Absolution I was having fun when I went loud. In WoA not so much, I usually just hit the restart-button. It shouldn’t be like this.
