Lately there is has been a discussion going on and i would like to bring it here because i think it needs to get more attention than just being talked about under the Eminem ET topic.
The question is: are we sure that the celebrity ET are not a little restrictive? do we think that some change has to be done for these missions?
I personally think that celebrity ET should be counted as special assignments that have their own challenges and rewards, i mean most of these missions have litteraly mission stories so why not doing that?!?!?
Hitman is all about freedom of approach and replayability. The ET concep goes against this core principle. There is a reason a sizable portion of the community has been asking for permanent elusive targets since pretty much H1, and the arcade doesn’t fully satisfy this need.
Most of the normal Elusive Targets have very few changes to the actual maps. These do little more than add a new character or two to the map and ask you to figure out how to kill them. I think those are fine as standard Elusive Targets or arcade mode things.
The recent Celebrity ones though have extensive changes done to the maps that feel like a lot more than just “we added this new character you get to kill”. Bruce Lee added a lot of changes. Le Chiffre added an entire casino. Dmitri Vegas made a whole new bar area and opened up the entire right side of that floor. Van Damme repurposed the entirety of the underground base. These changes are far more extensive than even the current special assignments (one previously vacant house in Whittleton Creek now has furniture in it? A sniper’s nest in Mumbai has a guy’s meeting place? Big deal!).
The only two celebrity targets I can think of that really didn’t do much to the maps they exist within are Gary Busy (who arguably wasn’t billed as a “celebrity” elusive target in the first place and has not been replayed since the initial run) and Sean Bean (which added a few new characters and changed one room of the Knox building). The original targets are even still roaming around in those maps.
The newer celebrity elusive targets feel a lot more like Special Assignments or Side Missions stuffed into the Elusive Target model, which is a shame. The amount of work that went into those will never be seen by a significant portion of the players. I understand that’s one of the reasons why they keep rerunning them but even with that, the nature of the system makes experimentation and trail-and-error bad choices - especially for new players who are only getting into the game so they can take out Eminem or Van Damme.
If they want to run these as Elusive Targets, with unique unlocks and unique challenges, that’s fine, but once those initial runs are complete, open them up as Special Assignments and let the players have them to experiment with and have fun with.
Personally, I haven’t found it worth it to pay $4.99 for the celebrity Arcade DLCs, since these still lack the ability to save and every other run requires restrictive objectives (or failure and lockout). I would pay for them as Special Assignments where saving and experimentation is possible.
I definitely think the Celebrity Elusive Targets would be better themed under the Special Assignment umbrella. I think there has been some discussion already over the last few days on this and most people tend to agree with this as well.
I concur that the recent batch of CelebrETs should be Special Assignments. There’s enough changes to the map and number of ways to tackle the targets that could support a set of challenges too. It would make them a lot more enjoyable and justify the price tag more than the Arcade.
But seriously: Yes, Celebrities, just as well as other missions like Dartmoor Garden Show or the 7DS should be Special Assignments and include free saving.
I imagine it sweetens the deal somewhat for the celebrity to know that their appearance comes with a more exclusive set of difficult challenges in order to complete the mission, so I in general don’t mind the lack of save for elusive targets. It also discourages the community from making too many extra brutal/silly kills just to post online, at some point someone may find it embarrassing (or problematic considering celebs deal with psychos and stalkers all the time).
I just think it should be easier to reset the arcade. I wouldn’t mind if the exclusive suit was locked after completing the escalation, as an incentive.
Absolutely wild assumption. Spoiler alert = they’re doing it for the money; I can’t in any universe imagine that any of the celebrities involved care even one iota about the lack of saves in the small chunk of video game content that they are licensing their likeness to. Not even the tiniest jot.
Absolutely agreed. But, if it were me (and supposing my manager/PR people had a say), making my likeness a permanent fixture with an unlimited amount of saves would %100 be a different amount of money. But what do I know? I’ve never sold my likeness.
We neither of us can prove our speculations so we’ll have to agree to disagree, but I remain convinced that their use in an ET format vs an alternative format (say, a Special Assignment) makes absolutely zero difference to either their personal interest or the amount that their agent charges.
You could very well be right. Normally actors get residual payments every time an original work is reused, like a re-run of a TV episode or when a film goes to streaming. In the case of a DLC, the celebrity in question surely gets a small percentage every sale so, sure, maybe it wouldn’t matter at all. I just think that more exposure generally means more money.
I’m only saying, if there’s any reason that IO has decided to do things this way, I can’t think of anything other than royalty payments. What I don’t believe is that the decision was random, I think they’re well aware that the community would prefer a different arrangement.
A lot of us would love for these to be Special Assignments instead of just Elusive Target Arcades. But the limited time attention seems more valuable to IOI this way, though most of us would disagree.
Also I feel changing this won’t happen now that the DLCs are time limited. I would have purchased The Bruce Lee Pack if I got a Special Assignment (and all the perks that goes with that) instead, so changing it now would be upsetting unless they go through the paperwork of re-releasing it.
I’ve played all of the Seven Deadly Sins levels multiple times except Wrath, which I just didn’t connect with. Dartmoore I’ve done maybe 20 times?
