Hello, i’m trying to find some hypothesis about co-op mode on this forum and i think we all want to try guessing how will this mode be so here are mine
It can’t be local multiplayer, as there are two agents must interact there
On the will it be available for all the trilogy missions?
- The Showcase made it clear that the missions are not the main campaign ones, but curated ones for the coop. So I expect not “all”, I expect “none”.
Everything else is unknown. To us. And maybe even to IOI. The mode is in its early days, and I expect prototyping the actual formula.
And then refining it.
And its consequence:
- if disguises, and if disguises for knight, then how do you deal with guard balance? Devs said that they are purposely all men to guarantee fluid gameplay and swap if caught.
- What about Colorado? It’s hostile so disguise are necessary for a good gameplay, but no women but two targets.
Most realistic I see right now: it will be like Ghost Mode. Some maps. But prepared for it.
I personally don’t even expect disguises, replaced with a more traditional stealth gameplay. Some map are friendly to it, with “minimal change”. Would also be appropriate for Knight and Stone.
Then again, if only a few maps are made, it could be reasonable to produce. Or only a few disguise could be available (guards only).
Or the gameplay could be asymmetrical between the characters…
I could see the objectives be like Freelancer though. A list of curated targets, chosen randomly. It’s a proven formula. And Hitman is about the location and its work.
I also think that it’s too early to ask basically any questions about this mode.
I mean in serious mood. We can only dream and speculate at the very moment
That’s what we are doing right now, i just wanna let everyone enleash their creativity
Ideally:
It would have all main missions, players can start at different starting locations, and both players have to reach an exit to finish the mission.
Mechanics and disguises and gameplay just like the base game.
This would be sick af for co-op speedrunning, or just doing cool elaborate runs in general as a duo.
Realistically: None of the above, but one can hope
Regarding whether it will get cancelled or not, we can’t answer that for sure, but I believe IOI said during the showcase that the team are doing everything they can to make it work. There may be problems further down the line that cause it to never see the light of day (although unlikely), but I guess we’ll see as time goes on.
The gamemode is something they’ve been wanting ever since at the very least 2016 and they had some progress towards it in 2018, I don’t think they’re going to finally publically announce working on this mode only to cancel it later
Regarding gameplay, I believe they’re probably going to keep disguises as that’d throw away a lot of the gameplay on Hitman (even though we’re not playing as 47)
making female variants of disguises will require a lot of work but seeing Freelancer they don’t seem afraid of creating a whole lot of NPCs/outfits
and new voicelines (for female guards and whatnot) aren’t out of the picture, probably will just be a couple of them,
the game is also built to handle other playable characters with their own disguises since they used to exist back in the Alpha days
It will probably take some things from Ghost Mode in regards to how the game handles two players but we will see what I hope is to have cross-platform between Epic and Steam otherwise it won’t be as fun if the mode is restricted to a single platform (likely Steam) and considering how the game launched many players have it exclusively on Epic
One way around the Knight/disguise problem is that players will play as Stone and will always see the other player as Knight.
How would that get around the problem? You’d still see Knight pulling a disguise off of male guards.
Other than a slight immersion break, it doesn’t require much else to be done to the game (ie swapping out male guards for female guards, recording new dialogue for the female guards etc).
I have two questions I would like to add to the original post for IOI:
The First Question:
Will there be additional achievements/trophies for the new co-op mode?
I personally would also like to see them add Achievements/Trophies for the Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation versions for the co-op mode, but I highly doubt IOI would add any for three reasons:
- There were never achievements/trophies added for any of the Seven Deadly Sins DLC Escalations
- There never were achievements/trophies added for Ambrose Island.
- There never were achievements/trophies added for Freelancer.
Now, while it can go either way, I lean towards “No” being the answer to my question.
The Second Question:
Will there be additional item, weapon, and/or suit unlocks for the main game for playing the new co-op game mode?
Now, this question I would be shocked if the answer was “No” as every update they release has at least one new unlock for the main game.
I really, really hope they just add challenges like “Complete Showstopper in Co-Op Mode” into the game for unlocks, rather than creating entirely separate mastery tracks for it like they did in H2 Sniper Assassin Co-Op.
Having to re-unlock starting locations etc for each location would just be a massive pain - especially if Knight and Stone each have their own individual mastery tracks as well. Having to do everything twice to unlock it all, just in case the other player happens to pick the character that you’ve got the most unlocks on.
The Co-op mode will be a limited time thing?
I don’t see why they’d put in so much effort just to make co-op a limited time thing and if it was they would’ve probably said so already
I could MAYBE see limited time events in the co-op mode in the sense of holidays, something similar to/exactly like ETs, or just general events like other games/franchises do (celebrate a new IOI game release, crossovers, etc.), but the actual mode being limited time? I completely agree with yoou that it’d be a waste of effort and resources to make the mode itself limited time.
Granted, Ghost Mode from Hitman 2 can technically be argued as “limited time” because of server shutdowns and not carrying it forward to the release of Hitman 3, and the Sniper Assassin co-op isn’t so much limited time, but limited to one release in the Trilogy. I am well aware those aren’t the same thing though, just thought I’d mention them in the sense of “wasting resources” for something that’s limited time.
To get back on topic, I personally am very excited for the new co-op mode and hope it brings some fun, new experiences to the game.
IGN did a live interview thing with Hakan. Not…really a fan of their answer.
Just out of curiosity, what part of the answer are you not a fan of?
Also, I wonder if Co-Op will now permanently become part of the franchise in future games, or whether it’s just for the WOA Trilogy. Personally, I don’t want the shine taking off 47, but that’s just my honest opinion.
I wonder what they’re going to do with the WoA story for the co-op campaign - are Knight/Stone going to be tasked with solving it all because 47 can’t be fucked, or is everything going to framed as though the WoA story is unfolding, but Knight and Stone just happen to get contracts for the same people? Or are they just stripping out the story entirely and its just a collection of unrelated contracts (in a parallel universe).
The last two would mean objectives like the data core or case file would need to fall away. But then where’s the fun/point in a co-op mission with just a single target?
Either way, things would need quite the re-work, rather than just building the capability of co-op and calling it a day.
His wording is so vague to the point of redundancy. Let me give you a transcript (Minus the MANY “Uuuhhhs” of Hakan):
Interviewer: “You’re adding Co-Op to World of Assassination…how is that going to work?”
Hakan: “We ourselves at IO Interactive about this for a long time. The World of Assassination is an evolving platform. That was our vision for 13 or 14 years ago. And er, Co-op was always something we wanted to be a part of this. Because…Hitman is great. All these systems, freedom of approach you get, and to be able to share that with a friend? I think it bodes well for really interesting gameplay…so…And it’s…all these locations we created…that whole..ecosystem of World of Assassination, that’s you’re oyster. To be able to share that experience with a friend”
This is just roundabout nonsense. It’s all info that anyone who has followed the news already knows, or can reasonably be excited about already. Repeating all this isn’t bad, they’re there for marketing, I get it. instead Hakan spins an interesting personal company tale about wanting to do Co-Op for so long (R.I.P Sniper Assassin Co-Op I suppose). But the question wasn’t answered, it was dodged. They say so much, yet nothing at the same time.
His answer was hype fuel essentially – a politicians answer (I.E: dodging the question to explain greater ramifications and being non-comittal). Nothing about the game mode, it’s mechanics, or you know, how it’ll work, is explained or elaborated upon, or even teased actually. At least, not in this short clip.
It’s the kind of interview response tactic I despise because you can’t gleam any useful information through the marketing, making the interview pointless. As an interviewer, I’d be annoyed by this answer. As a player, I’d actually anticipate some semblance of an answer, not a deflection.
EDIT:
There’s also this response from someone on twitter essentially repeating the question, which the official account gives a more optimistic answer on that Hakan probably should’ve said:
This is still avoiding the question, but at the very least I’m getting reassurance it’s being worked on.
