The Collector will steal the painting by himself, but no one can be in the room with him so you’d have to get rid of all the guards and (likely) Carlisle and her guard as they tend to wander in right when he’s about to steal it. Then he will go for his car and try to escape with it.

Hi Urben, thanks for getting back to me. Yes all attempts were made with the letter opener due to convenience as it’s located in the same office as the painting. After rebooting the console again it worked normally.
I did consider after the second time to use the Stanley knife from the collector or pick up a knife from the map or start the level with one in inventory or in a drop point. However, before that final reboot I hadn’t contemplated the glitch was tied specifically to the letter opener but rather the painting, or overall action.
Yes, I also noticed that yesterday. Seems like a bug to me too.

Great elusive target! Initially I climbed up to the third floor, ko’d a house keeper and took his disguise. I located the painting but couldn’t find the target. I went downstairs to find him being escorted by an enforcer. When he said he needed the bathroom I though this would be an easy kill but after distracting the enforcer and heading in he was nowhere to be found. I remembered the briefing that he was a master of disguise and figured hed given the enforcer the slip. Found him upstairs in a house keeper outfit hanging around the painting. My ‘window’ of opportunity presented himself in the hallway outside. Maybe the pressures of crime had taken their toll and he threw himself out? From there I cut down the painting and made an easy getaway.

You mean he was heading to escape with the painting still there?
tried to kill him with propane flask in trophy room. checked in instinct, was 100% sure the woman there was far away from target. but somehow, while propane flask was falling for a few sec , she got too close to him. to my shame had to resort to hard reset, just couldnt see my precious sa challenge begone like that

By the way, because I don’t think I’d said it properly earlier in the thread, and also because I’m quick to let IOI know when I think they get things wrong (e.g. the Seven Deadly Sins DLC package etc), I thought I should mention to any IOI folks reading that I really, really enjoyed The Collector as an Elusive Target, and thanks very much for creating another fun, nailbiting experience for me. Great stuff!

22 minutes later Kody Haynes appears with his disguise changed, located right next to the Maid & Security Guard on the top floor of the mansion. This poor soul ain’t collecting a thing, he was already dead before he could execute his plan. A Fibre Wire around his neck is a fitting end to this fraud 
Body hidden & the Painting is retrieved for an easy 5 Star Rating… Agent 47 out

It’s a complete mystery. Witnesses saw a bald man hanging around the area and a coin was found next to the open window!
I threw the emetic grenade at him which caused him to vomit in the lake. Next thing he’s floating to the bottom of it.
Nice Silent Assassin kill right there. Not my usual way to go about things, but sometimes you have to change things up a little 
My score wasn’t too high but just glad I got Silent Assassin rating.

I didn’t bother going for Suit Only, but I figured a Silent Assassin was a given once I found his initial route through the greenhouse. No problems taking him out undetected! Then I went for the painting. Once again, no problem. Climbed up to the top floor and went in that way. In the meantime I snagged the bodyguard disguise from the guy on the balcony outside of Zachary’s room. I didn’t bother hiding the body because in all of my runs of Dartmoor I guess I haven’t stuck around long enough to have his body get found.
So I get the painting, head on back to the shortcut ladder so I can use the bridge exit. Literally on the bridge and the bodyguard gets found. Four stars for me, no Silent Assassin. I could have done the force close but honestly it was kind of funny. Everything worked so flawlessly up until then!
Enjoyable target overall. I’ve really grown to love Dartmoor.
