I started thinking about this more recently and I know it can be done in some ways on PC but I’d love a free roam camera for consoles too.
-
gives us our own type of “cinematic” kills
-
Fun new add on to the camera giving missions and kills a different perspective
-
See what’s happening whilst being on the other side of the map
Maybe a drone would be better as an unlock but I think it should just be a option for the camera mode with the options to rewind, slow down, pause
I think this is a “false good idea”.
Even more if it’s an item like a drone.
- It will break the core gameplay.
Hitman is a puzzle stealth game. Gathering informations, and navigating to see them is the game.
This would destroy it.
- It would unravel the art and visual.
The game is not made to be seen this way.
It allows the player to see what is hidden, inaccessible, or above the horizon.
It breaks some of the “need to be nearby to render or made active”.
A Free Roam camera, or a drone, are deconstruction tools.
It is fun to see as a long time player who wants to peak behind the curtains.
It would be terrible to give as baseline.

Personally I would love to see some kind of implementation of a “Free-roam camera”. Not necessarily to the out-of-bounds freedom of PC mods and such, more so some middle ground between that and the camera we all have equipted.
Perhaps there could be a picture or tourist mode for every map that doesn’t have any targets, perhaps allowing us to fly around and get a better view of the map.
Getting pictures for the Featured Contracts is a LOT easier on PC because of this. They can pause time and really home in on details in the game environment that us console players are unable to do.
This is, much to LandDirt’s point, a bit game-breaking. Maybe there needs to be some sorta block from tampering with NPCs or objects or something to limit figuring out too much too easily, and perhaps a better invisible boarder to stop the players from leaving the map as easily as it is on PC.
