Freelancer - General Discussion

Tangentially, and as you probably know, Return to Monkey Island (the new one) has a very well implemented integrated hint book system. It should be the paradigm for all adventure games (or “clickies”).

Of course, it so happens that the newest Monkey is the easiest Monkey, but whatever.

Also did this very early on.

I also later killed myself, not with the explosives, that’s rookie stuff. I flooded a sink and then shot a battery in it for the accident kill bonus.

It’s good clean mindless fun. I was disappointed that the vehicles don’t have gas in them though— or if they do, that you can’t create leaks and blow yourself up.

Patch this please IOI.

As there’s interactions with certain areas of the Safehouse when you shoot it, wonder if the ability to properly use weapons etc will eventually be added to the Safehouse? Personally can’t see it, but I guess time will tell

Straight to the point! Good post  @Diana47

Just had a 6 suspect showdown in Marrakesh with the suspect descriptions of “No hair, glasses, necklace, earring”. Based on these, the meeting types and tells i went round the entire map eliminating suspects until none where left.

Some suspects had mighty, luscious full heads of hair, and some were completely bald. Then there’s this guy -

A sneaky headshot in a consulate stairwell confirmed him to be the target.

Are there two different descriptions, “bald” and “no hair”? I mean bald literally means no hair so that would be pretty stupid right? But now i’m sure i’ve had “bald” as a descriptor before but i might be misremembering.

Not that it mattered in the end - I took out the target, got away clean, then on the way to the exit decided to buy a sniper rifle from the supplier to complete the last objective of sniping 3 guards. It didn’t end well…

Yes, that counts as bald. Not perfectly Agent 47 bald, but still bald.

At least they don’t wear a hairpiece like the Gama Hospital Director. At least not yet.

Oh my fu**ing Gosh… Never thought I would achieve this, but it’s real…

Did I have fun? To be honest, no… Hardcore is not a funny mode. I enjoy Freelancer mode, but not under hardcore rules.

My advices:

  • Start a Hardcore campaign only after collecting all the weapons. This way, you can start your campaign with the collector’s Sieker or Legendary/Epic weapons necessary for Prestige Objectives.
  • Also, wait for level mastery 64 (or 65 I don’t remember exactly). The explosive bench is unlocked in the garage. 47 can craft a free homemade explosive before moving to mission. Moreover, the homemade explosive doesn’t take a slot compared to other explosives.
The explosive is a way to get rid of targets in the middle of the crowd.
  • Always choose a doable Prestige Objective. Pride doesn’t matter! Only achievement is worthy.
  • Never seek for SA besides Prestige Objective.
  • For timed PO, my preference goes on Hide and Seek.
  • Use money to buy tools on suppliers.
  • Choose a campaign for the maps proposed. Only select maps that you are familiar and where you know the location of disguises, propane flask…

For Showdown:

  • In the campaign selection, find a syndicate with very familiar maps for Showdown. All territories are alerted, so save your preferred map for Showdown. If a campaign has several familiar maps, go on!
  • Look for map where powerful civilian disguises are present. My preference goes on Paris (auction waiter), Dubai (penthouse housekeeper), Mendoza (waiter). These disguises allow 47 big portions of the map. That way, you can follow targets without the need of changing disguises.
  • Before Showdown, look at traits and equip 47 based on these traits and PO. If a head syndicate is a smoker, a quick way to get rid of him silently is a propane flask when he smokes. If he is a gourmet, look for lethal pills. Sieker is useful to make the target sick and isolate him in a toilet.
  • Always look for lookout and assassin. In Hardcore, all suspects are escorted by assassins. Use the Sieker on them is an easy way to remove the escort from the target.
  • During Showdown, look first for a civilian disguise. That way, suspects are no longer enforcer and you can take your time and approach them to identify the good one.

And finally, take your time! It’s not a speedrun!

I just played Hardcore mode not for the challenge, but because I find the future unlock (the Black Bruiser Suit) very beautiful.

If you’ve already completed "The HITMAN Challenge “in HITMAN Freelancer, you’ll automatically get the suit unlocked and added to your inventory when it becomes available.

I do hope it’s finally good. I don’t want to repeat Hardcore campaign again.

I hpe we get something that’s exactly as Hardcore minus the forced prestige objective. Something like Professional mode or alike. Hardcore remaining true to it’s name of being unfair but having asied something with it’s mechanics minus that extra barrier of the prestige objective.

I just did a double rage quit - first because of multiple weapon lure failed attempts and the second because I overlooked the level was alerted - the second involved switching to hardcore starting a campaign and immediately aborting so all my mercers go bye-bye.

Yeah I hope so too. It’s the mandatory prestige objectives that put me off starting Hardcore mode :joy:

I don’t mind forced POs, but all they need to do, and they should do this also in normal mode, make all 3 slots more organized and grouped with what relates to each other and then add more.

For example, first group should be the kill method type (accident, melee, etc etc), next be all the timed ones, and last be the SA and or SO ones.

Then add more to each group and then randomize each group so then it could be played more towards the player. I think that would still keep hardcore a way for the player to still be forced to complete a PO but still choosing which group they want.

Then there’s no need to make “another level” in between.

Which Prestige Objective would you rather play?

  • Silent Assassin - Suit Only
  • Silent Assassin - No Firearms

Edit: my first poll, I didn’t make results public, wish I had, it’s too late now, oh well, better luck next time agent :man_shrugging:

SA/NoFirearms cuz you can use disguises so essentially it’s easier. I’ve done no firearms with ease.

Edit: I read the question wrong. I thought I read what’s easier but in fact it’s what’s preferred and on that if both of these are available, I will always choose SA/SO.

SASO because I want every kill method open to me as possible, and I try to kill with 47 looking like 47 whenever possible.

Definitely No Firearms. Too many ways for Suit Only to go wrong.

Why not put both hands together and get “Silent Assassin Suit Only - No Firearms”?

Suit only is stupid (In my opinion) so no thank you.
