One they still haven’t given a unique model…
Yeah, where are all these weapons that ever seen it haven’t been implemented into the game yet? Or ones that should be present in Freelancer but aren’t?
Yeah in hindsight it would be better to have a static weapon number and have all the weapons count toward prestiging that way. I’m with you, there’s a lot of items I’d love to see in Freelancer: the 7 Deadly Sins stuff, the Deluxe pack stuff, and other stuff added in Year 2 (The Iridescent Katana, the Striker V3, the Floral Baller, etc). Maybe another DLC cosmetic pack or two as well.
It would also be nice if that fiber wire was “permanent” (not deleted by prestige) like the coin and the lockpick, it’s kinda annoying not having such an iconic weapon at all times and using the sthetoscope by default for fiber wire kills
Yes, make the fiber wire a permanent, automatic part of 47’s loadout, like the camera, only unlike the camera you can put it down and pick it up if you wish. It never made sense to me that places like Hokkaido and Dubai and Berlin could be gotten into on the first playthrough without the fiber wire, considering it’s never found in any search; that’s the whole purpose of it, and why it’s fiber and not metallic like actual piano wire.
At the very least, make the fiber wire not take up any of 47’s available equipment space, like the lethal and sedative poison vials that can be created at the safehouse. It’s the one item that shouldn’t take up any space. The camera doesn’t, after all, right?
Seems like 47 should be able to just use his tie (assuming he’s wearing one). What’s the difference?
A tie can’t bring the right tension needed to properly strangle someone to death. Besides, it’d be a bitch to take it off, strangle, then put it back on again.
All I’m hearing here is @schatenjager extolling the endless virtues of neckties.
Have you ever wondered how many square meters are in Hitman’s house and where it is located?
47’s already able to strangle people with measuring tape and sthetoscopes, which aren’t exactly the most dangerous things. Technically he should probably be able to hide something similar to the fiber wire inside the tie’s length that would make it usable for the same purpose, although there would still be the matter of taking it off (not to mention the risk to strangle himself if the tie gets caught somewhere).
I assumed it was a clip-on this whole time.
True, but even things like measuring tape, stethoscopes, earphone cords, fishing lines, and even belt straps are all a single layer of flexible material. A tie, especially the wider half, is a few overlapping layers of fabric, making it difficult to properly tighten in the way you want it to for strangulation. It would be like trying to strangle with a towel or shirt wrapped up into a long roll; not every layer would necessarily be tightening right in the way you want it to, and you can only control it at the ends you’re pulling. Those other items, being solid in their consistency, would tighten uniformly across the whole length as you pull on the opposing ends. While doable, a tie is highly inefficient and impractical for strangulation purposes unless it’s a tie someone is already wearing and you pull on the noose of their tie. While 47 could probably do it, he’d make better time just shooting them, stabbing them, or breaking their neck than bothering if held lacking fiber wire or something else equally solid.
So now you’re doubting 47’s skill at improvised weapons then? I see…
You know I’m kidding…
Where do you see me say that? I said 47 could do it, it would just be too much of a hassle for him to bother. Even using his own bare hands would be more effective and efficient.
I’ve been trying my hardcore run, both times failed in a showdown. First time was on the first syndicate, completely my stupidity for taking the wrong turn at Albuquerque (focused on wine suspect and another I was unaware of came around the corner). Lost a bit of hardware due to being cocky, replayed a couple of normal campaigns to build up my weapons. Second time was in the second syndicate, retrieved the right phone (secret meeting) from a suspect beside a crate, and the assassin headshot me, single bullet (thankfully I only lost a single legendary pistol for the challenge).
While the missions for Hardcore aren’t bad, I find the showdowns to be a bit nerve wracking. Not sure if people have advice, given the length of this thread.
I’ll get it one of these days.
You’re probably right, but either way it does look cool to see 47 preparing to make the kill with his tie!
Agreed, it really does, especially with the rugged look from Absolution there.
Force quit when things go haywire.
Other than that, use extreme patience. Focus only on prestige objectives. When your targets are down, get to an exit — do NOT try to take care of safes, couriers, guard kills etc.
Most of my deaths in Hardcore were due to me trying to get that last extra guard kill and things going sideways, or trying to kill targets in fancy convoluted ways. Or trespassing to get to a safe or just generally thinking outside of the box that is the linear objective. Not worth it. Don’t mess around after you’ve completed the objective.
Hardcore would be fine if not for the showdowns. The combination of the single target you have to identify, high lookout density and mandatory prestige objective is about as fun as rolling in shattered glass.
As for HC tips:
When I played it I think I did most of the showdowns in Miami. Many useful civilian disguises that are easy to get there (race marshal, medic, etc, all have free disguises on the map even if the map’s alerted). You can clear out the service tunnel that runs between the parking and the underground passage leading to the medics area, murder every suspect (and their personal assassins) that comes near if they somewhat look like what you’re after, and there are a lot of lockers to stash the bodies nearby. The guard post in the parking is also a good place to ambush suspects, but there are less places to stores bodies there.
The really annoying thing is making it work with the prestige objectives though. It doesn’t help that most of the showdown-specific ones are absolutely atrocious.
Don’t even think about the regular objectives, only focus on the prestige one. If you need money it’s always better to switch back to normal mode. Also since all of your money gets disintegrated if you fail, saving up is useless so always buy every tool you can from the suppliers.
Here are some advices I have written some time ago when I’ve completed HC:
For regular mission:
- Select a campaign only for the maps proposed. Select maps that you are familiar with (you know the location of disguises, propane flask…).
- Complete the mission w/o looking for SA. The end justifies any means.
- Start a HC only after collecting all the weapons. This way, you can start your campaign with the collector’s Sieker/Kamer (very useful) and Legendary/Epic weapons (for Prestige Objectives).
- Always craft a free homemade explosive before moving to mission. Use the explosive bench in safehouse’s garage (unlocked around mastery level 64-65). Moreover, the handcrafted explosive doesn’t take a slot! Very useful if a target is located in the middle of the crowd.
- Choose a “doable” Prestige Objective (something with what you’re familiar for). For timed PO, my preference goes on “Hide and Seek”.
- Use money to buy tools on suppliers. They are useful!
- Take your time.
For Showdown:
- In HC, all territories are alerted. Save your preferred map for Showdown (a map that you’re familiar and know the location of useful items).
- Before Showdown, look at traits and equip 47 according to these traits and also the Prestige Objective. If the head syndicate is a smoker, a leaking propane flask well placed does the job SA. If he is a gourmet, lethal pills will be your best friends. Sieker is useful to make the target sick and isolate him in a toilet.
- Suspects are no longer enforcers when 47 is wearing a civilian disguise. During showdown, seek for “powerful” civilian disguises (which allow you to move freely on big parts of the map). My preference goes on Paris (auction waiter), Dubai (penthouse housekeeper), and Mendoza (waiter). This way, 47 can follow targets without changing outfits and check the suspects’ traits.
- Take care of lookouts and assassins (they can kill 47 in one shot). In Hardcore, all suspects are escorted by assassins.
