Freelancer - General Discussion

If it is a choice made for poor reasons, it is a flawed choice. Their choice to make this a gameplay mechanic was a needless one, and the measures taken to get around it are testament to that.

It’s a choice they made because roguelike-ish games are popular right now and they wanted to do something similar with Hitman. I don’t see anything “poor”, “flawed” or “needless” in that choice. It’s just game developers wanting to try something new because it might be the right time to do it.

Does not mean they should have. They’re not the ones left playing with the results.

That’s an interesting idea to be fair?

Oh man, when Diana says “47 the target is trying to escape don’t let that happen” and the sudden change in music, it’s an instant adrenaline rush for me!! Such a tense part of Freelancer! :grimacing:

Here’s a Pro Gamer tip I just learned: If you aim a Kalmer right in front of the leader so they get alerted and shoot them, they’ll still get knocked out. Also, if you kill them afterwards, it’ll still count toward the Eliminate Leader - Escaping prestige objective and the relevant challenge

I usually just hurl something their head and make sure they see me throw it since it has the same effect.

That’s how I do it when I have this PO but also don’t want to accidentally let them escape. :joy:

Also pro gamer tip, if you happen to knock out your target accidentally when you meant to shoot them with a Kalmer or Sieker, (Member or Leader) you can still get the “Poison Target - Dart Gun” completed by shooting the unconscious body.

The game is surprisingly “smart enough” to know when their body has been hit by a dart, even if it won’t do anything.

(Sidenote: I’ve done this before, but that was before October and it may have been patched out. I’m not entirely sure.)

I think there should be a bribe option for lookouts from 500 to 1,000 mercers per lookout; hardcore could be 1 to 1.5 times the amount.

I had to do this yesterday, can confirm it still works!

So i attempted this and here is how it went.

I started at the default starting location.
Based on the info i got, i found the leader in the first 3 minutes with using the sniper scope to look at suspects.

So i almost got caught by the patrolling perimeter guards when i left my briefcase on the ground while holding my sniper rifle. One of the patrolling guards took it and went to store it while the other walked past me. Stupid me, i didn’t keep my head up as i was planning to cause an accident with a car explosion on the suspect that they were near.

So i took too long and the guard that took my briefcase came back from behind me and caught me. So with the sniper rifle in my hand, the guard started to shoot at me and the suspects began to flee. I was not in a good spot to go after the leader so i threw in the white flag and considered it a loss. :sob:

So taking my loss, i decided to do a restart. Got in, sniped the target, and exited the mission.
Not SA, but i did get it done SO.

I was so close in doing a final campaign showdown in Colorado. The tension was so fun that i will be doing ALL showdowns now in Colorado. I actually find it a bit easier because the the map isn’t that big and the fact that it’s a very flat map, actually is beneficial.

If you’re not looking to get SA, this map is actually quite easy for showdowns imo.

But that’s the design of lookouts. They are on the network to alert the suspects/leader to flee. Just think of it as they have a walkie-talkie and if they catch you, they alert the network to escape. That’s their job.

I’m at level 77 right now in freelancer and i still have not once got caught by a lookout. So i don’t understand why it’s of any issue unless you’re running around and/or just not paying attention to your surroundings. I play with minimap off so i guess my attention to every npc around me is very high.

God I’m so tired of guards turning around 360 degrees to reset position after a distraction. Is this good enough reason for an alt+f4?

I don’t think he did it in HC since the campaign progress on the screenshot is not red like it is in HC?

Colorado’s still decent for showdowns anyway, I did a few of them there. Although nowadays it’s pretty much always Mendoza to expedite them in 2 minutes or Miami if I just want to laze around :x

Correct. It was NOT hardcore. I won’t be playing hardcore full time until i reach level 100.

Oh yeah, my bad! That was a total oversight on my part :joy::joy::joy:

Out of curiosity, would the scarecrow trick work for hardcore showdowns? Cant fail if everyone is dead.

Just gotta make sure the prestige objective lines up.

Kinda. Suspects will flee when seeing the burning bodies but you can just follow them and burn them too.

The problem is that it might not help to achieve the prestige objective though.

i have a mission in marrakesh, one of the targets is one of the merchant npcs, the problem is its almost impossible to lure her into a container without a guard noticing the distraction or a shopkeeper bothering me

i guess new york showdown is off limits now
