Tried it and it didn’t work, or at least, was sporatic.
Just got done with an excruciatingly difficult campaign, but finished it and now have the trophies for 4 syndicate types. The remaining 4 only need 3 completions each, so I’m gonna play 3 campaigns using the remaining 4 in each of them, gaining the last of those trophies. I’m also more than halfway through mastery level 96 and building fast, so I think it’s gonna be full speed ahead to both completion of the 3 campaigns and getting level 100, whichever comes second, then take a break and next work on the remaining challenges that aren’t prestige or getting the 2500 syndicate kills or finishing 100 campaigns, I’ll get them as I go.
I accomplished my goal! It is 100% completed! And with about 5 days to spare before Freelancer’s 1 Year birthday!
Today I set a new record I never thought I could do: Complete 15 Campaigns in a single day! Okay okay, I actually only did 8 campaigns today (still a pretty impressive number). However, as I was doing the first campaign I had the good fortune of the game crashing! This triggered the bug where any challenge progression you do counts twice, so I was able to get from 85/100 Campaigns to Top Dog completed. I was only planning on doing 4 today but the bug inspired me to just finish the whole thing off!
I did the progress transfer and wiped all my progress on November 13. Counting a few weeks spent doing all the main Hitman 3 missions and escalations, I was able to totally complete everything in Freelancer in about 1.5 months. Not too shabby!
Of course, this is not the last time I’ll play Freelancer. Honestly even after doing so much I don’t feel burned out by it. However, I’ve spent over 800 hours in Hitman 3 since Freelancer launched last year, and I’d say at least 85% of that time was spent in Freelancer specifically. There are so many games in my backlog to play, so I need to overcome my Freelancer addiction and leave it for a while. I don’t know how long I’ll spend away from it, that depends on my willpower and whether it actually gets a significant update in the future.
It’s pretty impressive, I usually do around 2 syndicates per day :x Do you mind sharing how you do it so quickly? Like do you just ignore all objectives? How do you usually proceed to kill the targets?
It has to be through essentially speedrunning. That many a day, there’s no way fulfilling the objectives or stealth could be a priority. Has to be a case of killing the targets as quickly as possible and ducking out.
Ignoring objectives was the biggest time saver since once I was done Prestiging Merces don’t matter and therefore objectives don’t matter either. Even ignoring the objectives I wound up with about 7 million Merces and gained 4.5 million Performance XP since collecting all the items the 10th time because several objectives still wound up getting completed (Poison Target, Timed, Silenced Pistol Kill, etc).
My loadout: Silverballer, Kalmer, Sieker, Lockpick, Remote Emetic Gas Device, The Pale Duck, Remote Explosive Classic Duck, Remote Explosive Devil Duck, ICA Explosive Phone. Conveniently these take up a perfect 15 slots.
I tried to choose Syndicates with only good maps (good to me anyway): Paris, Sapienza, Bangkok, Miami, Mumbai, Whittleton Creek, New York, Haven Island, Dubai, Dartmoor, Berlin, Chongqing, Mendoza. With an emphasis on faster maps, Bangkok, Mumbai and Chongqing are fairly easy maps but they can take a long time to do. Dartmoor by far is my favorite map since no matter what starting location or what targets there were I could get it done in 5:30 or less.
In the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Syndicates, there are 3 unalerted locations. I would choose whichever one I thought would take me the longest (especially if it’s not one of the good maps I listed) and immediately leave it without doing anything. The time gained from making another map Alerted is much less than the time it would take to complete the extra mission normally. I’d then save the one remaining unalerted location for the Showdown to make that easier.
I still played somewhat carefully and tried to isolate targets when I could. If that didn’t work I would try shooting them from a safe distance (the apartments in Sapienza, the club roof in Berlin, the upper floors of houses in Whittleton Creek), basically places where I can headshot people and get away before guards actually see or reach me. Only if there wasn’t a chance to do that would I go close to them and give them a duck/phone. I only got into two significant gunfights when playing at this faster pace.
I also tried to only use one of the explosives in a level so that way I could just get it back right away, cause taking time to get to a supplier to buy additional ones back wasn’t worth it to me most of the time. The only time I bothered searching the in-level crates was to find Napoleon Blownaparte if I thought I would need multiple explosives. Only once I used all four explosives in a single level (in Santa Fortuna, of course)
My times were 1h 15m at the fastest (with really good RNG, pretty rare) and 1h 35m at the latest (with the worst RNG). By RNG I’m referring to the number of targets and their positions relative to the starting location. If I was more reckless and actually tried fully speedrunning it, I could probably do it even faster
Damn, man. I forgot that’s a pretty sorely needed QoL addition.
You just can’t reliably find all witnesses if they haven’t also all compromised you.
It can spread like a plague, but you could easily miss a few if they reset into their normal routines.
Yeah it’s a cool mechanic/objective in theory but not being able to track all the various “witnesses” means that as soon as the number goes above 3, I consider it failed.
Thanks for the extensive reply, that could be useful once I’m at prestige 10 to get those 100 campaigns faster. Generally I don’t use the silverballer unless I need a legendary for a prestige objective so I’ll probably trade that and a duck for the DTI SMG since it’s pretty easy to get it back. And Sapienza and Mumbai are usually atrocious when alerted so I’ll try to steer clear of them :x
Yeah I can understand not wanting to do Mumbai. I’m fine with doing alerted Sapienza because the un-alerted Sapienza still mistakenly has the Master mode layout so literally the only difference is targets are suit/guard disguise enforcers.
This is pretty impressive. The red duck trophy and the ‘top dog’ trophy are the two I’m working on currently. Think I’ve got around 20 campaigns left to finish, then I’ll unlock it so just pacing myself! ![]()
I’m the same as you and most of my time on Hitman is now predominately spent playing Freelancer! Love it! On your last point, I really hope we get a big update for it this year. The missing coin, the soundless Dubai helicopter and the fuse in the garage are some of the fixes we need. Also, the long overdue missing Easter, Halloween and Christmas decorations need bringing in ![]()
I will bring it to the team,
I can not promise anything, but I will see what they say. ![]()
Thank you! I will not get used to expecting a response, and I also do not support people spamming your username, so I very much appreciate the acknowledgement.
Atm, I hope people spam my username because I have a lot on my plate to catch up to… so without @ me I might miss it ![]()
To quote Donatello in the TMNT original cartoon episode Attack of the Killer Pizzas: “You might just be sorry you said that.”
Do not ask how I got that particular quote from that particular episode of that particular series.
Well i had my first death in freelancer In a long long time. I was doing my usual showdown in alerted Colorado and doing silent assassin when i was about to give the target the ducky (cuz PO was collateral explosion). So with target being an enforcer, I had to hide behind a wall and place the duck so he’d grab it.
So i was doing that and to get his attention to come look and pick up the duck so nobody else grabs it, i wanted to toss the briefcase, but stupid me, when i did the action to “toss the briefcase”, i had the detonator in my hand and…. Kaboom…i died.
What a bonehead, i was. ![]()

Well, now that Freelancer has been out for over a year, any chance we might finally see the Outstanding Coin get added to the game? Seriously, the missing item from the briefcase has been triggering my OCD like Sean Rose’s pencil collection.
Just for your info @Combatglue, to makes things easier, these are four of the main bugs/issues that are currently occurring in Freelancer.
-
When in possession of the emetic gas device and the mushroom in the Safehouse, the poison machine in the shed automatically transforms the emetic device to lethal poison and not emetic (All platforms)
-
The fuse in the garage area is bugged for some users, predominantly on Xbox One. Some users are having problems creating the makeshift explosive device as they can’t pick up the fuse (Predominately Xbox One)
-
The Dubai Helicopter is bugged once taking off from the Safehouse as its soundless and no audio can be heard (All platforms)
-
Missing coin from 47’s weapon crates in the Safehouse basement (All platforms)
Thought I’d put this on one post for you to make things easier. I might have missed some things, but I’m sure the other guys will chip in ![]()
Please also add to this the weird guard behavior in Sgail.
At least one enforcer - a blue cloaked guard patrolling around the museum, helicopter and stairs with another guard (he’s the shotgun one iirc?) - will instantly fire at 47 upon seeing him instead of going through the usual “hey who are you” enforcer behavior before becoming hostile. This bug is present in both Freelancer and the regular game. I think it might affect other similar guards, like the one with the shotgun at the top of the castle near the iron maiden but given how lethal this bug can be I don’t really want to test that :x
Also one raider near the blue Ark showrooms just stands around all day in the middle of a doorway instead of going through his usual script, although bumping into him will make him move and act normally. This guy only spawns if he’s a target afaik.
And I think the fuse bug is not exclusive to Xbox one?
Was close to getting to mastery level 97 this morning before work, did 2 missions on the latest syndicate, finished them perfectly, was so sure I’d get it, watched with anticipation as that XP bar filled… and stopped, right at the razor’s edge of going over to 97! I mean, there’s no room left on the bar, you can’t see any space between where it stopped and where its full endpoint is. Next mission I do is gonna put it over into 97 no matter what, but argh, that was infuriating! So close, but I had to go to work immediately after, so no time to get it there until tonight, and it’ll be festering in my head all day.
