Freelancer - General Discussion

Exhausted, but thankfully managed to get the “push leader over ledge” achievement tonight. From this point on, I will be the fiberwire assassin.

Same here. I was looking forward to it since it’s got a very Ghost Protocol look to it, but seeing that lvl. 100 on the back has diminished my excitement quite a bit… If anything, the classic fleur-de-lis would’ve been better, or nothing at all.

Nah, I found them. They’re in the meeting room below the one the safe is found in. Guess they’re within range horizontally, but we know from experience that vertical proximity is its own rule in this game.

Having now finished the mission at last, I can say that an alerted Isle of Sgail with 4 targets and a hide target bodies objective is a pain in the dick.

Another good spot in Berlin is the skylight near where Agent Green (the guy walking back and forth past the bag of concrete bricks you can drop on agent davenport) usually walks around. It can see like all the way straight down into the club and is virtually risk free and quick to access. Just another good sniping spot to take care of berlin targets

We are 100% going to see 4 more syndicate types over the coming year, if the shelf space in the safehouse for the syndicate type trophies is any indication. My main wonder is how exactly they are going to space these content releases

I actually uninstalled the game cause of Freelancer.
It’s OK for most parts, but after I failed a campaign for four times in a row, I realized I just wasted hours and hours of gameplay for nothing, and I think this type of gameplay it’s not for me.
I’m also tired of hitman, so…

But aside this, I’m glad most of the players enjoying it, it’s still a nice game though.

I bet that this piece of information is known but it’s still nice to spread tips around:

YATES’ SAFE IN MENDOZA NOW HAS MERCER IN IT INSTEAD OF THE FILES, EASY MERCER TO EARN IF YOU ARE IN MENDOZA

The Code to the safe is 2006

I know that feeling. Nothing is more frustrating than having reached the final showdown of the last campaign and failing because you run into a scout or a tattoo has glitched out.

Still the mode itself is pretty funny, the punishment just feels harsh. Probably the reason why I couldn’t enjoy Elden Ring.

It does have its issues, but overall I’m really enjoying it. I find the change of pace pretty refreshing as it makes me play very differently to the main game. After spending about forty or so hours on it, here’s the main things I’d say to IOI for potential future updates:

  • We need more potential objectives, especially prestige ones. Most prestige seem to be ‘kill with an epic weapon’, ‘silent assassin’, and ‘timed’. It’s refreshing to see explosive safe openings and the like when the common ones all seem to the same. Something like Loud Kills Only, or Don’t Deactivate Any Cameras, could be good ideas to mix things up.
  • This is already a big conversation elsewhere, but hardcore could do with some adjustments. I think the compulsory prestige objective is fine, particularly if the above change gets implemented and they also add ‘smart objectives’ that prevent impossible ones from appearing, but a lot of the hardcore additions make it a challenge but not fun. I would remove some of the more obnoxious elements and then add some more realistic stuff. I’ve mentioned the possibility of blood alerting disguises, but I’m sure there are other good ideas that offer a fun challenge.
  • More levels! I know that this seems unlikely, but I think adding in the extra variants that are already available in contract mode wouldn’t be a huge stretch. Most NPCs still exist in some form and the levels themselves could have safes, chests, etc in the same places as the main level. It would also add an extra unknown to factor in when choosing a level too since you wouldn’t necessarily know what the level is going to be like. You could also throw in some other variations too, such as the snow festival and maybe a couple of the 7DS variants too. The Chongqing market would be really awesome in Freelancer.
  • Item randomisation in levels would be nice. I know some items have been removed, but would be cool if usable items in the level were sorta random. In a common sense way of course to stop things like a medieval mace appearing in a hotel toilet, but random nevertheless.
  • Some type of prestige functionality for those who have everything. People have mentioned before about the lack of challenge when you have everything, so perhaps some way to counter that. Perhaps a safehouse mission that has your house raided by a syndicate and you need to defend it using your armory. Being compromised forces you to relocate, effectively having you start over. Give people a badge or star or something everytime they do it so people can show off. Not sure if this would be the best way to keep people playing, but I think it’d help with a lot of the issues and explain why 47 has no money or stuff again.

Overall, it’s a cool little addition and I hope it gets expanded on in year three. Even if we get nothing else this year except repeated ETs and FCs, I’d be more than happy with 2023 being the Year of Freelancer!

It’s funny to me that the fiber wire counts as a melee kill in Freelancer but in the main game it doesn’t count as a melee kill.

That’s why the disconnect option, or alt+f4 option if you will, exists. Try again.

Has anyone seen the piggy NPCs in Berlin? I know they were there during the CTT but so far I haven’t been able to see them in the final version

There’s a courier wearing a club crew disguise, taking it will magically summon a pig mask for 47.
He’s about here:

While I’m posting, @Switcher got me thinking and I had a look at a couple other safes:
Dartmoor - Contains a mansion master key
SF - Rico’s safe also has merces (you’ll need to give the love letter to Hector)

I already mentioned the Master Key in the Freeloader thread, nice to know that about Rico’s Safe.

Berlin still has the gold idol and cocaine brick :expressionless: don’t bother checking it.
