That’s the bad thing about witnesses. They’re not even highlighted in instinct for you to know 100% who witnessed whatever.
I was in Mendoza, had the bodyguard disguise/suit on and was going towards the villa. The guards gave me a friendly greeting, but once I went just far enough I was suddenly trespassing. I then had 3 witnesses. 2 guards (definitely), and a courier/waiter were in the immediate area when it happened.
I killed the 2 guards and courier in an explosion. But I still had 1 witness remaining.
Watching the area after a while it could only be (another) waiter that has a loop that takes him by that checkpoint… And sure enough, that was my 3rd witness. Yet, I don’t remember seeing him near me when it happened. So he had to be a good distance away - but witnessed the moment I got in trouble.
I don’t know what your situation was, but I’d wager it was another NPC that might’ve been looking in your direction whenever whatever infraction happened.
On another, yet similar note… The way you become compromised is like a psychic phenomenon. One person turns orange, and if there’s a crowd near that one person - it spreads out like a wave to other NPCs that can’t even see you - as if all of the NPCs were linked in a giant hive-mind.
I’m sorry to say I can’t say for certain if that’s how it’s always been… Or if I’m just now noticing it with Freelancer due to all the high-stake risks we have to take.
Or once when I became compromised in Caruso’s mansion. I get down to the area with the mime and heading towards the sewers, NPCs are panicking. Then soon I’m compromised by everyone in THIS area too. I had the thought “WTF?! Did they radio down to these other guards on who to be on the lookout for?”
The worst part about the spotting cones is it’s RNG and completely whack. I destroyed the camera leading into the basement in the Bangkok hotel. The two guards patrolling the hall hear nothing, but someone on the floor above shows a " ? " over their head and it says “gunshot heard!”. The guards in the hall kept walking about until the guards from upstairs came rushing from behind me to alert them. This happens 1 time in 5. So your witness in that scenario might not even have been in a patrol route, but across the whole map.
In just a regular contract I’ve had the yellow spotted arrow come up standing middle of the canyon on Hokkido where I’m flat against the building and I look w/ sense and there was nobody there. I still have no idea who or what was spotting me. I was also killled by a sniper in this same area in Freelancer. Middle of the canyon with all the guards including the sniper guard dead (I took his special pistol my favorite weapon in freelancer). I have no idea how I was killed though not longer
after by a sniper. I noticed when you take out a spotter it respawns them since another spotter identical in patrol route appears in their place not long later. At least it does this in Dartmoore.
Don’t get me started on “Guard ESP”. It’s insane, but it has also always been ths way.
Play Hitman: Absolution which it only other HM game I could play on SteamPC w/o a controller.
The spotting cones have always been whack too.
The most unfortunate bug I’ve encountered is not being able to pick up the fuse from the garage at the safehouse. I was only able to pick it up once and now the prompt doesn’t show up. It’s glowing but unattainable. If there’s another one somewhere else, I haven’t found it, so the bomb shop at the safehouse has been purely cosmetic… and I like to blow things up.
Yeah. I can’t pick up the fuse cell either. Then once I was able to pick it up, so I thought they patched and fixed it. I crafted a bomb and everything. Next time I went back, I could not pick it up again. I tried wearing different suits and having different items in my inventory but could not replicate whatever let me pick it up the one time.
I suffer from the bug too but sometimes I don’t and I can pick up the fuse. But thanks for letting me know about what mastery level I need to be. So I’ll have to wait.
I actually feel it’s better to stay in the 3rd person view
Strongly disagree @47saso47 . It’s in first person so you can see your subject more clearly. Really, the problem is the goddamn circle in the middle of screen, not the camera perspective. I don’t think it adds to the immersion either, it takes away from it more than anything. A different perspective means you, as the player, can focus on using the camera for its intended purpose of spotting leaders and such, not on general Hitman gameplay you would otherwise be doing. Having 47 in the frame just doesn’t add anything but clutter.
I feel like people want it in third person because it looks cool and it’s not currently a thing you can do reliably in-game. Just because it looks cool and different doesn’t mean it’s actually good for gameplay.
A toggle-able option only makes sense if it has any real use. This…just doesn’t have a use-case where First person would be equivalent. I don’t think it makes it any easier to avoid people like lookouts, nor any easier to identify leaders (if anything it’ll be harder). A toggle just feels like a consolation prize, not a victory.
Not every idea is good, sturgeons law and all that.
“There are people who find it interesting” feels like enough of a real use to me
Of course it’s still more work for IOI and I don’t know how hard it would would be to actually add that option, but I wouldn’t dismiss the whole concept just because I wouldn’t use it :x
That redditor sure knows their Freelancer mastery track and seems to love spamming the thread about that level 64 thing… but they’re as clueless as anyone else about that bug, if not more. Reaching level 64 only unlocks the option for making bombs. You can pick up the fuse much earlier than that. And you can be affected by the bug much later than that. I’ve been level 100 for a while and I still can’t pick up the fuse most of the time. Some times the bug’s not there and I can pick up the fuse, but I don’t really know why.
Right?? By that logic, we shouldn’t be able to pick up the grape knife before we unlock the grapes, or the mushroom before we unlock the poison machine thingy.
(And before anyone points out that both can be used without interacting with another unlock or transforming them into something else: so can the fuse, just not on every map.)
“There are people who find it interesting” feels like enough of a real use to me
No, not really? That sounds like a waste of resources and time tbh.
That’s not why I was dismissing it. I was dismissing the idea because it wouldn’t be any better than what it is currently, and if anything, would be actively worse for reasons I’ve already said. That’s the reason for my dismissal. It’s not personal, it’s all about the mechanics.
Well you think it would be worse and at least two people think it would be better. Having an option to switch between 1st and 3rd person for the phone would please everyone (because you, or other people who wouldn’t want to use that 3rd person mode, could simply not enable it). Like I don’t care about raytracing, VR or any of that stuff that I can’t enable anyway, but I do understand there are people who are interested in that, and IOI working towards that instead of fixing Freelancer bugs or bringing more H1 content to H3 like I’d want them to feels pretty normal. Pleasing at least part of your consumer base is hardly ever a waste of resources.
(You do realize that your first paragraph and your second one kinda contradict each other right? :x )
