Freelancer | Patch 3.170.1 | Bugs and Imperfections

It happened to me again this evening. I was in a bathroom with a civilian target (door closed & no windows). I fired a silenced pistol aiming for the head just as the target went to be sick, so I carelessly missed the first shot which hit the wall in front of the target. Somehow I entered “combat” with this civilian NPC who was facing away from me and was only reacting to a single silenced pistol shot.

The Car Battery does NOT seem to work at all on the Shallow Water beach sections of the Maldives and Ambrose island. When you throw the Car Battery in the water in these sections the car battery will activate and make loud sparkling noises, but it will not be lethal to targets. I have not picked it up myself out of fear that it might still be lethal to me and make me fail the campaign, so I can’t say if it becomes lethal to the player.

I am fully sure that the item does not just have a very limited range. I have done 3 different tests with this item.

  • I have thrown the item near my target while they were standing in the water.
  • I have thrown the item directly at my targets head, pacifying them and then having the item land in the water
  • I have thrown the item in an area I know the target will walk DIRECTLY over the item itself, not just in its vicinity

In all 3 of these instances the car battery started shooting out sparks and making loud electric noises when it hit the water, but it remained unlethal to the target.

Man why does the Eco crime syndicate CONSTANTLY have “No bodies found” objective?
First of all I do not understand how this objective makes ANY thematic sense, what in the hell does having hiding bodies have to do with eco crimes? It’s stupid.
Secondly, why the HELL would you choose this objective to constantly pair with accident kills? The whole point of accident kills is that it’s ways to kill your enemy without you needing to be close to your target and be seen as responsible for it, and their body won’t immidiately make people suspicious. The only kills that also usually hide the body are drowning and accident kills.

As if putting Colorado on this syndicate wasn’t enough, this objective makes this syndicate COMEPLETELY just a pain in the ass instead of a fun change of playstyle. Instead of being able to have a fun time walking around setting up traps, you’re now just playing a goddamn silent assassin again like on every other goddamn syndicate doing fucking nothing but pacifying every single guard in the map so they won’t be able to witness your target being killed by an accident so you can walk out in the goddamn open and drag their body killed in AN ACCIDENT KILL and dump it in a trash compactor somewhere

This could easily have been one of the most fun syndicates to play if it was entirely based around being a trap master, but this objective just forces you right back into the boring ass covert assassin playstyle. Most of the time I just end up feeling like fuck it with the objectives, I’m just going to shoot my target in the head and leave the mission because there is practically no way to get the objective legitimately anyway.

Can you add a feature to the Prestigue objectives screen to pay 1-5k to reroll the 3 randomly chosen objectives? Maybe have it be 10k at Hardcore mode. Some of the objectives are just completely incompatible with the syndicate objectives you’re playing and it feels incredibly unfair sometimes.

The no combat one is a bit iffy. Id have thought combat is when you trigger guards attacking you. I sniped this dude, nobody saw me even as I left. Sure, people say the body, but surely that doesn’t count as combat.

It’s the same in the regular game AFAIK, tasers aren’t lethal either in the sea on those levels.

Fair, but then that still either seems like a universal bug where the tasers/car battery should be lethal in the sea or they should not activate at all.

it would probably cut performance like lactose free cheese
Especially if there are bodies in there

I don’t think that’s necessarily a bug, more of a limitation of having so much shallow water to deal with.

They aren’t considered “puddles” which is what the battery/taser reacts to, and if they were, it would probably cause a lot of problems to literally any connected body of water with the same effect.
So, at the very least you can get easy accident kills by tripping people, but using it as an electricity conduit has too many risky variables to program… probably…

Getting sick and tired of this game crashing.

First game after work - I complete a showdown in Dubai, barely making it out with my life - then the game crashes as I’m sky diving and makes me do it again.

Stupid.

It’s more based on sending NPCs into “combat mode”, rather than 47 actually getting into the combat. Combat mode is often triggered when NPCs detect gunfire or see an obvious murder right before their eyes. So shooting NPCs in plain sight (or if they find a shot body within a couple seconds of it being shot) or firing multiple shots (or any 3 ‘gun sounds’) near a guard can trigger this.

Why not just make it have an area of effect then, instead of the ENTIRE ocean?
Like, maybe make it electrocute everyone within 10-20 yards or so standing in the water.

Not sure this is limited to Freelancer mode but I got this painfully hilarious bug in Paris.
Tried to grab the guard around the door. He phased through and did what you see in the video.

Since I’m in Freelancer mode I can’t even restart. GRRRRRR

Same, I just got 3 crashes in a row, in Dubaï at the beginning of the mission

To follow up on my previous comment that I wish prestige objectives would be compatible with normal objectives, I got a new one today. One prestige option was to “Open Safe - Explosives”. But one problem: none of the 3 maps that were currently available even had a safe. IOI really should adjust the prestige options so that all the options are possible. It would also be a good way to “force” players into a difficult choice on maps, like maybe forcing players to do a showdown in Colorado because of the previous prestige options they picked due to compatibility.

Dubai seems bugged since the latest game update. Twice now in Dubai, I’ve had a random NPC just randomly die for no reason. I just got a “non-target killed” message pop up on the screen, despite me having done nothing. On one of those, I had a Silent Assassin prestige objective that failed because of that. I would’ve been quite pissed if I was playing on Hardcore Mode and lost the campaign due to a glitchy, suicidal NPC.

It’s, uhhhh, environmentally friendly to clean up after yourself and leave no trace? So you should reduce your carbon footprint and properly dispose of all dead bodies?

But yeah, this objective is annoying with accident kills. Because normally bodies don’t count as found if it’s an accident kill in the regular game. But suddenly as an objective, they do count. Which is what I was complaining about in an earlier comment about objectives being inconsistent with previously established game rules.

Ugghhhhhh… Found another stupid inconsistency with the Freelancer objectives. “Hide Target Bodies” apparently doesn’t count when you dump bodies into the water on Haven Island. This objective needs to specify that bodies specifically need to be hidden in a crate or closet. I thought the body was hidden, until the objective showed failed at the end. That was time well spent hiding all the other targets… :sob:

Anyone else experienced a weird bug with the Make Targets Slip objective? I made the leader slip on a banana peel so she of course dropped her phone, and after she was woken up by a guard she just went back to her starting location and sat doing the Reader tell and NEVER moved again. I waited for a half hour and she just sat reading her magazine, didn’t go snack on her munchies, didn’t go to anymore meetings. Just sat.

Maybe their routines get suspended when they lose their phones!? Or maybe she really got hurt from slipping on that banana peel and was like “fuck this shit!”

While I don’t know if this can be replicated or happens super often, I just want to share that I failed a showdown mission because the guards for some reason didn’t escort me out after catching me trespassing. They just stood there repeating things like “If you don’t follow me now, we will open fire” until, well, they opened fire. A bit annoying and something I’ve noticed has happened previously.
No video evidence or screenshots I’m afraid.

Also, are you supposed to lose half your money if you fail a mission but don’t die?
