Freelancer - Pre-Release Discussion

68 days remaining … still too far😷

Yeah :joy: I also can’t wait, FL made it feel like it was going to be a brand new game. I’m very curious what will change after beta tests and even curious more how year 3 will looks like!

Hi all, I would like to ask you guys to fill a short questionare for me. Your emails will not be used, I just need feedback, what you did/didn’t like in CTT. Thanks in advance and sorry If this bothers somebody.

What are people hoping for in the last few “Road to Freelancer” posts? The plan was for one in November, which we haven’t gotten yet, and I’m hoping it will be full of learnings from the CTT - what feedback they got, what changes they are going to make based on the feedback/data they obtained, what isn’t going to change that people want changed etc.

That’s what I kinda am saying as well. Why can’t they have these guards part of SA? Any objective SHOULD count towards SA, just like getting the painting or hacking the computer in the et contracts. Would make freelancer feel more like hitman and rewarding SA than feeling like assassins creed.

I expect the next Road to Freelancer for the end of the week/month, like the previous one.

Outside of the returns from the CTT, maybe explicit (we heard you about something particular about the economy, about the progression, …), maybe untold (thanks for the returns, we are learning from it), I actually expect a few “surprises”.
Though, at the very least, I think we will see some congratulatory, and deserved, stats and facts about the CTT.

The CTT was made to mostly judge the base vanilla loop, and the showdown. So I expect some announcement to expand on that part. Like supplementary mission type, that can spice up campaigns.

In general, I think we still don’t know anything about the long term progression.

  • The ICA Performance Coin has a slot in the tool crate, but apparently was never looted in the CTT. So I wonder if there could be some permanent unlock (“congratulation, you are at mastery level 50, even if you loose everything you will still always have a coin”).
  • From the unlocks discrepancy, I think that the mastery present during the CTT is different from the one we will have at release, and I think it will contain more interesting things. It’s just that the CTT was made to remain at a base state.
  • There is also the question of what the hardcore mode that can be glimpsed will be. And if it’s the only “end game” modifier, or mechanic.
  • Finally, we have only seen the Safehouse only as a customization hub, I expect they will talk about some long term mechanics in it, like a chemistry lab, maybe even the crafting mechanic we have seen in Ambrose, to create home-made tools/explosives.

In the potentially less “good news everyone” side of things, there is the question of why some customization items were noted as “premium”. (I hope it’s because of a supplementary game mechanic, but we all know what else it could be…)

There are still two Road to Freelancer left, so some part about the gameplay could be more for December, to build more hype.

No idea what this paragraph is talking about. Customization items? Premium? What else could it be? It’s all going over my head.

When I said that I was merely stating a fact, it wasn’t so much of a complaint, because…

I think (and agree with the idea that) the intention with the seemingly contradictory objectives is that you have something to fall back on should one of the other objectives fail.

My idea (further into my post than just mentioning the contradictions) was an IDEA in order to game the system in the hopes of getting the highest amount of mercers available. :smiling_imp:

Get your SA Rank a sealed deal upon exiting the level. Earn +30 =M=
Kill the non-target NPCs while the exiting scene is playing out (maybe with a proximity explosive or RFID). Requires some planning and timing. +10 =M=

So you’d get the most M possible +40 =M=

Instead of just +30 for SA
Or just +10 if you lost SA and still killed the non-target guards.

But back to your point… Nah, I don’t agree. Let’s not make the extra NPCs “targets” just to say you rightly earned SA. Keep it a dirty deed… Done dirt cheap. :joy:

Which again doesn’t feel like hitman anymore. It’s assassins creed. :man_shrugging:

I’m sure he was referring to the Safehouse and decorating it. I don’t recall seeing items as “Premium” (I’m sure they were there, I just didn’t see 'em). But if it’s LESS than good news - it probably means DLC.

Indeed, I actually agree with this point. If it’s an optional objective to shoot 3 guards with a shotgun, does that not mean that there are 3 optional targets that you can choose? Say you had a Silent Assassin prestige objective, and the optional objective of the 3 guards; to get the most amount of Mercers, you would want to complete both, but if shooting the guards takes away SA, then your only choice is to not shoot the guards and not get the highest pay out.

The game should allow a scenario that lets you collect the maximum payout no matter what combination of objectives you have. If there’s a SA prestige, shooting 3 guards should count the guards as additional targets. If one objective says to kill the target with a silenced sniper rifle, and another says to shoot them with an unsilenced pistol, then there should be more than one target.

If it’s not ready by launch, I hope IOI will fix it later at least that there’s no scenario where the objectives, optional and prestige, conflict with each other where it’s impossible to collect max pay out.

Well, in the Closed Technical Test at least, that was not the case. There were often conflicting objectives (kill target with sniper, kill target with shotgun - only one target) and there were objectives that required breaking Silent Assassin (kill three guards - only one target). Whether that makes it like that into the final release, only IOI knows.

Even if it does, I have a feeling it will be quite unpopular, so hopefully they’d fix it down the line.

To give you an example (extract from @Khakiasp " Hitman 3 Freelancer | Safehouse Tour | ") :

In the same video you can see the same when he showcase the shooting range. And from other videos you can see that all of the customization points have some option noted as premium.

Why would a player choose the Silent Assassin Prestige Objective if they know they’ve also got an objective to eliminate guards. The only reason anyone would do this is to ignore the guards objective and complete the SA one for a higher Merces payout or they’re just stupid.

The mode teaches you to select the PO after selecting the mission by only having them appear once unlocked when you’ve selected a territory. So if anyone is selecting a PO before selecting a territory, I refer back to my “the player is stupid” comment.

Either way, it’s a player-created problem and not one IO needs to fix imo. They cannot fix stupid players.

I’m pretty sure it’s been teased by our notorious resident data-miner that the in-game files sort of note the “Premium” options as being tied to Deluxe Edition content. So fingers crossed it at least wont be additional DLC to purchase

It does beg the question as to why some of the content we receive in the CTT only consists of one or options and they’re all Premium, but perhaps there’s also content in there that was removed for the Test build – so as not to overwhelm us with Safehouse content that the CTT isn’t meant to be about.

I didn’t say anything about the prestige objective in my comment. I was replying to a player who I personally know won’t want to play in a way other than Silent Assassin, so the prestige objective was immaterial to my statement.

no they won’t do it. there are many examples of this

Hello there. I’ve done my best to avoid watching anything Freelancer related, but can someone tell me if the targets are original characters? Or are they just NPCs?
