I agree that he is being very abrasive, entitled, and close-minded a majority of the time, but feedback is feedback as far as I’m confirmed, especially if it’s coming from someone this passionate about the issue. He wouldn’t be rattling all day about it if he didn’t care, so clearly it’s an important issue.
There’s also a difference between being told no and simply rolling over on command and accepting every decision someone else makes.
Only because I keep getting pushback like this. Others, like yourself and @schatenjager, are being far more reasonable in the debate.
Ya and I am in agreement that a base pay should be part of it to make better gameplay. I’m just playing devils advocate and speaking through the other perspective. Not just mine (or ours).
So I think perhaps you got confused with what I said. No big deal.
Ah, I see. I was under the impression, based on your arguments, that you were against a base pay as well. My bad.
That’s why I said this:
I’m just trying to figure out why there would be no base pay in the game. So I decided to play devils advocate.
You’ve got to love it though
Don’t do that, you’ll get electrocuted :x
That’s what happens when they announce a game mode so far in advance of when they actually release it. There’s a gap of stuff to discuss so it devolves into steaks and waiters.
Which isn’t to say that there’s anything wrong with steak. I really enjoy a nice t-bone!
At this paragraph and the next, you’re confusing me now, and I think you’re confusing yourself.
Those contracts, given their “special conditions” (the painting/the virus) can still be completed even if such objectives change or aren’t fulfilled.
But only by completing them, can it be a “correct completion”.
Freelancer doesn’t have a “correct completion”. The only way you can ensure you’re doing the “right job”, is by killing the targets, escaping the level, and finishing the full 18-mission campaign without dying. (At which point you might get some reward, or a lot of satisfaction… )
It’s exactly why there’s no star system. You’re not being graded on your work.
Merces is overall irrellevant to finishing a campaign or unlocking Safehouse areas.
IOI have said that all the contract variables are rolled independently of each other, and any more work on ensuring it fits a player’s specific needs would probably require a lot more if/then programming for:
- Comparing what you have and don’t have to the possible objectives
- Whether the item in question will spawn in a crate that you may or may not come across
- Or even if there should be a guarantee or a percentage chance, small or large, for you to find the right item you don’t have to fulfill an objective
And just needs manpower or labor they don’t have enough time to allocate at this point.
I get the frustration about Merces not being able to be completely fulfilled in a contract, but IOI has said their piece and we’re all aware that it’s controversial.
At the very least we can hope they can make Merces count up instead of down.
This is getting exhausting and repetitive, and that’s for everyone in this debate…
Anyway just changing the subject slightly, just seen these cool looking shots of 47’s Safehouse and the outside area.
We’ve obviously got a rotation cycle of day time, sunset & night time. Wouldn’t it be cool as well if in a future update for Freelancer we get a snow theme added as part of the rotation cycle?
Although it’s unlikely, it would be cool to see!
Not really. Those are examples of contracts that absolutely require an extra step vs one that has an optional step. Freelancer has no “requirements” to the contracts, only optional objectives. That’s what I was saying and that’s the stance I have been taking.
IOI’s piece is not now, nor has ever been final, so I’m not concerned with what they’ve said so far, I’m more focused on what they’re gonna do down the road, a la Arcade mode. If anything, of course, there’s always that. Don’t know yet.
Part of the first Freelancer trailer that showed the customization, there were Xmas decorations. It would be a neat fit, but I highly doubt anything other than the 3 times of day…
I’d assume that IOI could, if they wanted to, do all sorts of seasonal things for the Safe House. Snow, rain, christmas, easter, halloween, etc. There is only one person there so there’s no concern with random NPCs sunning themselves on a beach during a snowstorm or anything silly like that.
I seem to remember a game from way back when that had christmas decoration up during December (or maybe even on christmas itself). They could easily do that sort of thing.
Maybe they’ll make some options available around the holiday times this year, in exchange for completing certain challenges. Or perhaps some paid dlc.
It was the After Dark screen saver Mike’s So-Called Life. It was just this guy who never left his apartment and went about his life. He’d cook dinner, take a nap, watch TV, stare at his neighbors with binoculars, etc. On Christmas he had a little Christmas tree with two or three ornaments on it. I think it was from the mid-90s or so. Pre-Y2K at least.
Not confused at all, I just think you’re giving IOI too much credit in assuming that they had this deep intention in not giving a base payout when it’s more than likely just one of a thousand small choices they made when developing the mode. Most likely did it to balance the economy, which was pretty bad in the CTT and was one the main things they wanted feedback on, so I see this being changed in the near future if it isn’t already for launch.
I respect playing the devil’s advocate, but sometimes things are just clear cut not good, and could simply be an oversight, there most likely isn’t any larger reasoning for it.
That kinda makes sense too. Maybe they don’t want players just sniping all the time to make the game easy since they basically removed SA.
These are my screenshots which I sent in September to a thread in the leaks section. So the look might have changed slightly between then and November.
The time of day is random, like everything else in this mode. It also doesn’t just change the outside, things on the inside change too.
Anyone else hoping for a IOI Blog Post breaking down Mastery Progression to tease some unlocks we can unlock.
