Freelancer - Pre-Release Discussion

Good for IOI they take their time. Wise decision. So Ambrose was the highlight of Y2. That makes this years content extremely mid. Shame. I hope Y3 (if it exists) will be better.

It’s a pity that only Steam users can be selected for the beta but at least we have a release date!

The release date is a bit disappointing. But on the other hand, if it’s free, and we know the release date. I’m ok with this. We know there will be technical tests.

It’s good to see, that case of Cyberpunk 2077 has taught devs that releasing an unfinished product almost always ends in a disaster.

lol

Aw man, woke up to a long delay lol.

I’m happy that we won’t get an unfinished, unpolished game mode, and I’m excited for Freelancer. I really appreciate it that Freelancer didn’t release before it was ready.

Why do people feel they ā€œwasted a yearā€? Sure, I’d have loved to play the mode earlier, I’m hyped and excited for it, but… what?
I’m a ā€œHitman diehardā€, but I certainly didn’t sit in front of my screen, waiting for the download to start, doing nothing but waiting for a whole year. I totally understand being disappointed when something you’re excited for gets delayed and takes longer than expected, but come on. Do you only have space for one video game on your hard drive? Are you only able to like one thing at a time?

Thats about it really, that doesn’t compensate a whole year imo

If your on about me, I’m more on about that most things they have released this year have flooped like eta. And the fact that all of last years escalations (par like 3 or something) were dlc

Free-lancer will be free !!! Great news !!!
Waiting 3 & 1/2 months for the release is painful already :stuck_out_tongue: I wish there could be a way they released at least one of the ā€œcampaignsā€ as a beta test version for all platforms Agents to try in the meanwhile.Something like Ghost Mode being on beta for…well…a long time :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe this was technically impossible and the mode had to be released as a whole package. But still I wanna be surprised in the next month and read on a blog post ā€œHey Agents. All of you can download the beta mode of Freelancer on all platforms. We ll be fixing and adding more stuff until its final release!!!ā€.Just wishfull thinking, not complaining :stuck_out_tongue: They should release when they feel ready !!!

P.S.I hope that the ā€œselectiveā€ lucky Steam Agents will avoid spoilling us the whole game mode on youtube , so that when it releases we ll dive without knowing too much.

You can say that again

I dont mind the delay, I’d rather have a solid new game mode than a buggy mess that isn’t balanced and not fun to play.

I agree!

And I am happy for all the content we get. I mean, they released a whole new map and brought Grey back this summer  They are listening to their fans, and I am sure with freelancer it’s the same. They want to give us the best experience.

Just think about they will release it so early now, and it’s not working, the game crashes, it’s full of bugs. People would complain about that than.

There will always be people who are not satisfied :woman_shrugging:

But I am excited and I am so happy that it’s free

From the delay, and the newly coined term of ā€œfreelancedā€ map, I have genuine hype for the mode now. It seems clear that things are done with intent and design. Which is always promising.

It also makes me hope even more that the locations will be specifically reshaped for Freelancer.
Lore-wise to have a ā€œa year later, no main target, and a day like any otherā€ aspect. And gameplay wise to have a ā€œevery area is interesting and not just designed as a stage inside a larger mission and its tempoā€.

And as many have already said : we’ve had a brand new map two months ago. We can chill.

Weren’t you saying that you were waiting all year for freelancer, but now just stated IOI’s work isn’t worth to be bothered?

Why you bothered being excited all this time, anyway?

It is better to take Freelancer as a bonus in the end of the day. It will be there for all of us for free and we can pick it up at anytime after the development ceases.

It is a cool love letter to the community and basically, from Codename 47, the closest thing to what we all imagined while playing that game. Just the tech wasn’t there at the time.

Enjoy the good times as they appear.

Pretty sure there’ll be an NDA in effect, which is just a very normal thing for beta testing

3 months is a longer ways away than I thought we were, I’m not disappointed or mad with it taking longer if it results in a better and more polished product (especially considering that it’s free!), but my expectations are now a little higher.

My main concern for the mode isn’t mechanics, but rather the maps and missions themselves, I now at least want them to feel a little different if we aren’t getting new maps for freelancer (which I doubt we are).

I don’t want it to just feel like they removed the targets and conversations mentioning them, and added a small handful of NPC’s. I would like the changes to at least reflect the time put in.

With how quiet it’s all been and how much hype within the community it’s generated I’m hoping for the best.

Are you certain about the date? For me, the excitement of the whole launch is waning through the push backs of dates. Delays are the lesser of the two evils and I absolutely want the time to ensure it is done right before the consumers get hold of it.

But that’s why I’d rather have announcements with significant updates every roadmap and only a release date when it is 100% tried, tested and set in stone. Because it’s hard to get hyped for any date when it isn’t definitive.

This is what happens every time any major announcement happens frankly. I’ve written rants myself about it on this forum.

When Hitman 3 was announced there was a wall of complaints concerning how much ā€œeveryoneā€ hated Epic.
When the 7 Deadly Sins was released it was a wall of complaints about how much it cost and how much ā€œeveryoneā€ hated it because it was ā€œjust a bunch of escalationsā€.
When Ambrose was released there was a wall of complaints about how it was ā€œjust a retread of Havenā€ and about how much ā€œeveryoneā€ didn’t want another island.
Now Freelancer is delayed and there’s a wall of complaints about how much that sucks.

Nothing is new, nothing is novel, nothing is unique about people complaining about how disappointed they are because something didn’t meet their expectations.

I, and most people, are fine if you want to express your disappointment but do it and move on. How many posts does is take to say you aren’t happy with it?

I don’t mind the delays. However, my expectations for this mode are considerably higher given how long they’ve taken to develop the mode, and I’ll be holding it to a much higher standard than I did for the ET Arcade or Ambrose Island

And the people who complain about the delay are the same people who would complain about the mode being shit if they had released it when they first intended
