I dont know if i missed it in the announcement video, but was there any word on possible new freelancer campaigns in the future?
I think we saw 16 campaign files on the table to pick from. Maybe the nature of the game mode makes 16 more than enough to have fun forever in it, but it would still be nice if they keep adding campaigns in the future.
There might not be all 16 released at launch, they could only release some at launch and then release more later on (like what theyâre doing with the ET Arcade). There could also be more released when Rocky comes out that incorporates that map with the others.
Yeah, a much better level select screen than just scrolling an eternity from left to right through the missions. For me Year 2âs Freelancer seems to be like a foundation for Hitman 6
I hate that theyâre using that flawed version of world maps, the Mercator map, that shows Greenland as bigger than Australia and rivaling Africa, when in reality itâs less than an eighth the size of South America. I hate maps like these. Itâs just nitpicking, I know, but come on, IO, you telling me 47 put all this fancy stuff together in his safe house but didnât spring for a more accurate map, the most precise man in the world?
47 might be the most precise man in the world but what about the players though? Most people are more familiar with the distorted version and in a time when some donât even know where most countries are placed on the map, I wouldnât want to confuse them even more
(In all fairness to Mercator, yes it distort the north and south, but thatâs accidently ideal for the locations placement, otherwise we would have a large if accurate but here empty Africa and a small Europe where all the locations would be on each other and impossible to read)
This looks very likely. I can imagine this mode being "free to play"and eventually becoming standalone. A way to get new players in. Maybe each month there is a new free mission for newcomers. Saving them having to make just levels free each month.
With that said I donât know what they would monetize with this mode when the full game has a tonne of content already. Hopefully we donât have to wait for cooldowns/timers between each mission or a grind to get gear
I politely dissageree with you there! Iâm the kind of person who always enjoys replayablity over content / size; while Hitman as it is worked perfectly fine, the idea of each of those locations having a more random approach and even longer âcycleâ has me incredibly excited. Imagine in one go through the story, one mission takes place in Paris at Day, while the show is set up, tasking you to eliminate the construction worker who oversees it. In another you have to take down Sato during the show, in another you have to infiltrate the after show party at midnight in the upper floors. And that for every mission!
An approach like this, what Freelancer is at is core, is something I always wished for since Hitman 2016.
(As long as they dont turn it into an Ubisoft game, if that was your fear. I wouldnt like that either!)
First what was already talked about : the campaign menu.
We have the mercer (the currency), the usual skulls for the difficulty. Not a lot to add to what was already said
Interestingly, the campaign menu shows 4 territories for 16 targets.
By the way the developpers were very particular about the use of the term âterritoryâ and not location. So I would guess multiple objectives, or even the possibility to go in and out at your own decision. (want to just shop ? or maybe just do one objective ?)
Now to the most interesting for the gameplay : the maps, and the rest of the UIs
From the safehouse map :
first row (I guess about the territory in general):
target icon (as usual)
no idea (leader ? number of different missions ? From @Fritz_Fuchs (thanks) : maybe a safe to crack)
looks like the current career main icon, maybe intel shop or to buy disguised entrance for future missions, or just buy suits (Sapienza does have a currently underused sanguine shop after all) ?
two weapons, confirmed as the item shop
second row (I would guess about either the mission type/objectives or the active complications/challenges in the territory for bonus mercer)
peace symbol (no no-target complication ?, pacify targets objective ?)
looks like a building/the usual representation of an institution or a bank (stealing objective ?)
looks like the current main suit (suit only complication ?, VIP objective ?)
The store icon, both in level and in menu :
And for reference :
The career icon
The suits icon
The mini map, with two item shops, and an additionnal icon.
Interestingly itâs one that is not present in the Sapienza general presentation, leading credence to my hypothesis of different shops in different locations with some not always present.
It looks like the current inventory icon, maybe supply drops shop ?
Iâm inclined to think itâs more likely that Freelancer is testing the waters for a possible future Hitman title with microtransactions. Like you say, it would be strange to retrofit microtransaction into a game which already has so much content.
This has the potential to be an outstanding new mode. What is a little unclear is whether or not these changes will cross over into campaign mode, or remain exclusive to Freelancer. If I purchase that Chinese briefcase in Freelancer, for instance, will I then be able to throw it at Viktor whilst he stands on the catwalk?
I donât understand why youâre disagreeing with me or what about. None of the things you mentioned are things I said I had any sort of problem with. And no, my fear was not it becoming like an Ubisoft game; Iâm excited over the fact that it is. When I said I hoped it was not a sign of future status who, what I meant was that I hope future Hitman games will not rely on this method for contracts, but that Diana will establish a central organization like weâve always had to do the heavy lifting that we will experience here in Freelancer mode. I donât want Freelancer to become the norm, but more of a side-thing.
Then I misunderstood you. I read your comment that youre against the idea of such a rougelike approach to a story / campagin, while I think itâs a very good way to expand the forumla.
Not at all. Iâd never heard of roguelike before people started making comparisons, but Iâm very much excited for how theyâve set up this mode, and am in favor of it.
To me, it looks like the same plot that the cabin from the ânew dealâ cutscene is/was on⌠Iâm desperate to know whether Freelancer is set before or after that
