My last two wishlist posts were, I think, on the reasonable side of things. Hopefully balancing good impact with low production cost / no change in the usual work flow.
This one is not.
But it is earnest!
I would love to see a way to play a Freelancer campaign of the Story Missions Targets under Freelancer rules and objectives.
It would playfully blend them with the payout, and prestige objectives. It would make players play with more restricted and consumable tools, while opening them to the weapon wall and bringing as much as the Gear Capacity allows.
(As a matter of fact, I would be ready to pay for it as DLC)

It took me a bit to make this illustration, and Iām kinda proud of it. Even made a Providence logo in the background!
I think it would be novel enough, and fun enough to be a worthwhile wish to have.
But I understand that it would be creating new structures. If reusing templates and systems.
The game might be currently not in a place where such things can be reasonably decided to be made.
A few observations on it being a wishlist:
- I ask for it for two main reasons:
- I like the idea of Freelancer, and the Safehouse being a HUB with access to even the main story targets.
- The main story missions are starting to break apart under the weight of all the unlocks, it would bring them back into a more managed set of options.
- Still :
- Maps as they are in Freelancer might be too modified to have the story targets be playable.
- It might mess with the challenges.
- It would be a tall order to implement. Not the tallest I imagine, but stillā¦ The QA alone.
- A lot of reasons for why it canāt, or wonāt be done.
A few notes on the campaign itself:
- The Objectives would be random, as would be the potential Alerted Territories. Like the Sick Game syndicate is.
- The illustration shows the end of the campaign always being Carpathian Mountains. I donāt even know if it is possible. Itās fuelled on the desire to play this level with an open loadout. Even more open in Freelancer. Itās a best case optional wish.
- Order of the rest of missions would be at the player discretion.
- Maybe empty the tool crates at the start of it? Knowledge of the targets would be a given, tool randomness and build up would be more potent to play with.
- I would see the LL dossier not among the other ones, disrupting them, but on 47 basement desk, beneath the surveillance screens, between the ālisten back to welcoming messageā and the tool crates.
Bonus wishes, but they are pushing it, I will admit:
- Roulette Dossier: One random mission with the Story Targets. One disguise, one elimination condition per target. The roulette, officially added.
- Elusive Campaign: a serie of X Elusive Targets chosen at random, in a row, in Freelancer.
I know it probably wonāt happen, but I would be amiss to not post it.
