Why even remake 4 at all? I have never played it myself but it can’t be that horribly dated, it was a very accomplished game when it released.

I bet Mr. Krabs knows the answer though.
I kind of just want an answer that isn’t money just one time. Like what if Sega said “We are remaking Persona 4 because we wanted to see what it was like with Yuri in his starmaking role, we thought the idea was hysterical.”
Money
I love Persona 4 Golden, but I don’t think all of it has aged gracefully.
A lot of it has aged wonderfully. The soundtrack is timeless. The menus, UI, character designs all still look top notch. The town of Inaba feels alive. The story, perhaps outside a few details here and there, is great.
The issues really arrive at the game’s combat half. The game’s first dungeon can be pretty tough at times, especially since your party only has 3 members in it when the max is 4. It’s a bit tougher and less intiutive than the more modern Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload handle. Stuff like fusion is just a lot more obtuse to deal with. It’s hard to describe, but P5 adds a lot of small quality of life improvements to the gameplay that feel sorely lacking when you go back to the PS2 games.
Dungeons are probably the biggest sticking point. They aren’t bad per se, as much as they are very uninteresting. Persona 3 had Tartarus, a giant tower that changed its layout every night. Persona 4 dungeon’s are relatively normal, different locations, but keep the random floor layouts. Not to mention each P4 dungeon tends to have 1-2 floors which aren’t random, but tend to have very simple designs and very basic gimmicks. Considering Persona 3 saved Atlus from bankruptcy, and Persona 4 was made under a tight deadline and tight budget, it’s hard not to feel like the dungeons were the most obvious part of that fact. Easily the most obvious aspect that could be improved upon.
I think the broader issue is about the target audience of Persona. Nowadays, I think Persona does well because it is meant to be an RPG that can be played by people who aren’t familar with the genre. Yes, you’ll hear fans complain that Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload are too easy. But when half the game is the life sim aspect, that basically has no difficulty to it, it makes sense the gameplay half shouldn’t be too complicated or challenging. The original Persona 3 was a tough game, due to that version not letting you control your party members. The original Persona 4 on PS2 was a lot harder as well, it was only the Golden version that would tone down the difficulty alot. And I do think Persona 4 Golden has a bit of clunkiness because of it being made originally for the PS2, and that can be an issue for some people.
It’s clear that Atlus sees P3, P4, and P5, as the big three pillars of Persona. With the Persona franchise bringing out spin-offs, it also makes sense that they want these 3 games to remain relevant, and easy to approach. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if in the future we do see spin-offs focus on Persona 3 and Persona 4 again, they gave Persona 3 a dancing game spin-off after the release of Persona 5.
Does Persona 4 need a remake? Probably not, I’m sure there are god knows how many games out there that would benefit from it better, including from Atlus’s own back catalogue. Persona 1 and 2 are still not available for modern devices. My big bug bear is that the Persona 4 remake will inevitably recast everyone like Persona 3 Reload did, and P4 has a fantastic cast. Yuri Lowenthal was fantastic as Yosuke. Then you’ve got heavy hitters like Laura Bailey and Troy Baker as well. I’m sure the new cast will be great, Persona 3 Reload’s cast were all great as well, but I absolutely will miss the OG cast.
Not terribly surprised by this news anyway. It was clear that as soon as it was revealed Persona 3 Reload sold over a million copies P4 would be remade next. It was revealed a couple months ago that a Persona 4 remake has been copyrighted. And 2 years ago Persona 3 Reload was unveiled at the Summer Xbox presentation, so it’s looking pretty like Persona 4’s remake could be announced there. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until Persona 6 finally materialises, P6 has been in development for god knows how many years at this point.
All I can think about is what P6 is going to look like. In the time it has taken to release it Japan has seen a prime minister be murdered, the emperor abdicated and they haven’t even announced a P6 yet.
We do know P6 has been in development for some time due to stuff like job listings. When Atlus announced P5, it took them 2 and a half years until it actually came out. Similar with Shin Megami Tensei V. More recently though, whenever they announce a game, it comes out within a year. So hopefully they’ll only announce P6 when it’s ready.
The final power washer simulator dlc is now out
Also all of the paid dlcs are now available in a bundle
The Witcher 3 is getting cross platform mod support
Dear god just give me something anything please.
Ubisoft, it’s been far too long now.
Considering the fact that they were looking for a lead level designer fairly recently, I don´t see it that close. Not that I care for the remake anyway. I just want a Master Collection-style re-release of all the classic ones in all their versions.
Speaking of which, the picture they posted is from Pandora Tomorrow, so if this is in fact hinting at anything, it might just hint at that game finally getting a digital release at least?
Bit of a self advertisement, but I’m looking at potentially setting up a Minecraft server for HMF users. Thread here if anyone is interested:
Anything but Winds of Winter.
What’s up with this Spiderverse looking shit lately?
