Game News Thread

Cross Posting since I wanna address a few things about it since Gun being involved is controversial. I can actually talk about it now since the project and who is heading it is 100% in the open.

Trancas has been shopping around Game related stuff since as early as 2023. A game was confirmed at a H45 Panel which I attended during the Halloween 45 years of terror convention.

Boss Team Games (evil dead the game creators) originally concepted the title with Carpenter as Executive Producer back in 2024. Boss Team released RetroRealms which debut with Halloween and Ash vs Evil dead. Failed commercially, resulting in Trancas pulling out on development for the main Halloween Game shopping around the project to developers.

Which leads me to Gun. Gun did cease development on TCM for this title, but it’s a double edge sword. On one had the handling of TCM and lack of transparency really put a sour taste in people’s mouth. Content was finished and slated that was never released and they doubled down that the vision for TCM was fully realized.

On the other side of things TCM really was restricted on what they could do since they were stuck with just the original film. In terms of content and the larger ethos of the brand it’s very little.

Gun in publishing Halloween The Game, but Illfonic is heading the development. What does this mean? Simply put it Illfonic working on this is what’s saving this game. On top of the rights issue for Halloween aren’t as messed up outside of Trancas and Miramax which have a very good relationship. So that means while the 1978 films will take front focus as followed is on the table.

Halloween 2
Halloween 3
Halloween 4
Halloween 5
Halloween 6
Halloween H20
Halloween Resurrection
Halloween (2018)
Halloween Kills
and
Halloween Ends

Only exception is the Rob Zombie Remakes cause currently Lionsgate own those films.

Similar to F13 there’s a lot of potential with the Halloween IP. (Yes even down to the Myers Masks and Coveralls). While the 1978 film is the core focus. The source material at large especially with John Carpenters involve and aswell as Malek Akkads I can say what’s available is robust.

As a Halloween fan. A hardcore one at that I’m optimistic for good reason. I don’t doubt this game on its success. F13 pulled numbers and the thing that killed it was the Lawsuit. Illfonic and Gun collaborating again is the best outcome for this title and hopefully come next year we get something that can hold its own against DBD.

Yeah, looks like it could be decent. I guess I just find it amusing but also slightly annoying how much effort there is to keep the Bubsy franchise afloat, when there are dozens of other franchises that could use a revival.

More Info on Halloween.

Firstly the elephant in the room.

Gun Medias Involvement

Halloween: The Game is created and published by Illfonic. Gun Medias Involvement will largely be for marketing similar to Layers of Fear 2 and any premium collectors editions. They won’t have any input on the live service element or design of the game.

Single-player Story
Halloween will have a single player story where you take up the mask and be The Shape. It won’t be like Single Player challenges of F13. While details aren’t clear The Story will follow beats of the 1978 films with additions encouraging replayability, exploration, and collectible hunting. I wouldn’t set high expectations since this is a game based on a slasher movie, but it will have a Story to tell even if it’s one we already know.

1-4 Asymmetrical Multiplayer
The Multiplayer Survivors are tasked in alerting the citizens of Haddonfield of Myers presence avoiding the chaos he brings. They do this by establishing police presence, alerting citizens, and of course getting Michael’s Psychiatrist Dr Samuel Loomis to stop Evil. Fight, Hide, and stop evil.

As Myers you stalk and prey on potential victims, like the film it will be slower paced and there will be methods to the chaos you’re bring onto the citizens of Haddonfield. Stalk, Slaughter, and bring Chaos to the small town.

It’s unclear how Michael will get around the map fast enough since it’s confirmed he will be methodically walking at a glacial pace. I have reasons to expect Michael will have his trusty Smith Grove Station Wagon available to get around the environment.

Setting and Post Launch Support

At Launch Halloween will predominantly adhere and follow only in the original film and its continuity. What this means isn’t that Sequels aren’t in the table, but rather first play in a Sandbox that isn’t complex by over 12 films worth of films.

What this means is to start anything and everything will for a time will be set within the confines and lore established in the 1978 film, and following that stuff from the series at large can come into the game.

Haddonfield Memorial Hospital as a map

Silver Shamrock cosmetics for Survivors.

H20 CGI or CNB masks for The Shape etc is on the table when they wanna move beyond the 1978 film.

So unlike TCM which was only allowed to follow Kim Heinkels concepts and stuff from the first film. Halloween had the whole IP backing it.

I’ll post more as information comes out.

I think the biggest challenge this game will have is with Maps, but we will have to wait and see.

Well holy shit?? Assassin’s Creed Mirage is getting some substantial-sounding FREE DLC later this year! A New location and new story missions? Wow?

And Ubisoft’s choice of locale really got my history nerd juices flowing: Al-Ula, an oasis city in modern Saudi Arabia that has been inhabited by a succession of cultures since 5,000 BC. Most notably for cool videogame setting purposes: The Nabataeans, who left stunning monolithic rock-cut buildings in al-Ula that resemble their more famous cousins at Petra in Jordan.

I’ve just finished playing through the story this morning. I thought it was okay. I think the smaller scale and more ā€œold fashionedā€ style of some of the gameplay/mechanics worked better than the expansive, or sometimes exhausting, RPGs of recent years (I liked Odyssey on the whole, hated Valhalla and couldn’t finish it). I think Mirage’s writing and characters were pretty weak, bland, generic, etc. I also had a very regular bug that sometimes I could not get out of a hiding spot at all, resulting in reloading save/fast travelling.

I’ll give this free DLC a go if it has achievements attached but otherwise can’t say I’m eagerly anticipating more Mirage.

I am interested in trying Shadows next though even though I’ve heard mixed reviews.

Speaking of, I find it very interesting that a lot of the recent AC RPGs (and especially Shadows that uses it to the Nth degree) have been critiqued for lackluster overarching stories when so much of it is ā€œgo wherever and play whichever mission you want from the startā€ meaning you don’t get proper character arcs or relationships and a fulfilling story throughout, since the writers can’t account for the dozens of orders the game can be tackled at.

(I’ve heard people have enjoyed the major, proper story moments in the game, which is the beginning and finally the ā€œclimaxā€ near the end that everyone has to unlock and go through the same order by then.)

Bringing me to Ghost of Yotei, who seems to also be adapting this ā€œGo wherever and tackle whichever of the Main 6 Targets you want from the beginningā€.
I have a bit more faith in it, since Sucker Punch are known for putting good quality in their games, and I found Tsushima had some very cool small details in that some dialogue can get changed or added depending on if you did Mission Y before Mission Z or vice-versa.

But I’m worried there’s not a lot of people voicing their concerns about this new structure, since if they also copy Ubisoft’s playbook too much without sanding off the issues, then… it might turn out rough… :crossed_fingers::persevering_face:

Watching some footage of the Battlefield 6 beta. I must admit, I was a bit unimpressed, I thought ā€œisn’t this just Battlefield 3 again?ā€ Only to remember BF3 was 14 years ago, oof. Doesn’t feel like that far ago, for me anyway.

Battlefield has been one of those franchises that I’ve wanted to get into, but has never quite happened. Bad Company was a game I liked with the Kelly’s Heroes single player plot, and a good multiplayer. I put in some time with BF4, but that was ages after it came out. BF1 and BFV never really appealed to me, I don’t mind historical shooters but not the thing I’m interested in a multiplayer setting. I was excited for 2042, but then that launcher, and, well, y’know.

BF6 does look fun, and I think is a good marketing move for EA to launch an open beta almost immedietly, and it comes out pretty soon, it shows confidence. I guess my only concern really is that perhaps it is a bit too safe? It does seem like BF3/BF4, but again. But then, after the shit show of 2042, and the historical games, maybe going back to basics is the right approach.

Also there’s a single player. No idea if anyone cares about it, but I guess it has to exist so they can charge $70 for the game at launch. Wonder if it’ll be even decent. I’m definetly going to keep an eye on BF6. Not buying it at launch, but maybe if the launch is (relatively) smooth, I’ll get it later at a discount. I really like the Battlefield style of multiplayer, where you are encouraged to be a part of your squad and team, and you can be a bit more of a support player if you’re not great at the actual shooting. So hopefully BF6 might be the game I can finally jump on board.

The most important thing is this: will we get a new season of Battlefield Friends for BF6? I hope so, they’ve teased it might happen, but I think they’re waiting for the game to launch first.

Haha yeah but 2042 never had a campaign and also launched at 60$/70$ for current/next gen at the time…

Yikes. There IS apparently lore for 2042, but its given through a bunch of text documents you unlock in game…
