Thank goodness. First they didn’t have it, then they go bought by Facebook – still didn’t have it – until one day they did, and now they’re not forcing it anymore. Bit of a flip-flop, but it’s a good one.

I read something just the other day about someone essentially having their Oculus bricked after their facebook account was deactivated for violating the community policy. The guy couldn’t access any purchases, games, or any real menu functionality without a valid facebook account.
Kinda turned me off of looking at Oculus as a potential VR device for a hot minute. Glad to hear that won’t be the case entirely.

Don’t you mean “Meta”? Zuck got bored and changed the umbrella company to Meta on a sociopathic whim.

I did not know that.

that’s a dumb decision, zuck. re-branding is not priority numero uno.

To be fair he did it today and Facebook will still be called Facebook. Meta Platforms is what used to be Facebook Inc. It would be like is Mars Corporation changed their name, they would still be Mars bars but the company that own them is something else.

It is a bit like Google’s parent company Alphabet. For the products there are now nothing changes. Well unless maybe new tax evasion ideas.

Actually I think this is more tying into how Zuck wants to create some sort of cyberscape, less tax evasion and more extreme technophilic megalomania. The name itself is a truncated Metaverse from Gibson’s novels and seems like it will be just as good an idea as it was in Snow Crash.

If he can’t have real human interaction then none of us can it seems.

Why do I feel that in the end it’s going to be a “you need a META account, not a facebook account, completely different, we promise” situation.

Off topic, but that pic would also work great as a colourized history of 20th century Poland :joy:

What a time to be alive, you can now play GoldenEye 007 for the N64 in Germany!

I think it’s a good time for them to do a remaster of the N64 Goldeneye otherwise plenty of people will be playing Goldeneye for free.

Ian Bell was one of the few CEOs that interact directly to their community. I guess the guy really couldn’t withstand EA anymore.

News just in…

Sega and Microsoft have “agreed in principle” to a “strategic alliance” that will see the Japanese game developer and publisher exploring ways to develop next-generation games using Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.

343 has just dropped another trailer. With the hashtag “become”, it looks to follow in the footsteps of the “believe” trailer from Halo 3. It’s simple, yet evocative, and really heightens expectations for the upcoming release of the game on 8 December.

GTA SA Photo Realistic Environment.

So I need a reminder, why did they go for a realistic environment look but a cartoonish look for characters?
