Game News Thread

I know, I’ve played the early games until i got bored and then they hyped up… Origins? I think, with “the new improved fighting mechanics” and it turnrd out to be dogshit.

Always pissed me off that you always ended up hunted after making the kill. AC could have been great if it hadn’t the shitty modern day plot and would be more like Hitman :man_shrugging:

To be fair that is historically accurate, The Assassins didn’t kill people quietly they just straight up publicly executed them.

Doesn’t mean that is more fun to play that way

Yeah, I am glad they improved the games after that. I remember AC2 being such a radical change from the first one.

With MGSV MB coins were largely used for post game stuff, but you got them on a regular basis to where you never needed to buy them.

Ubisoft titles usually have stuff that gives you a significant advantage in their open world that being time savers, collectible maps, and armor/weapons

Kojima really doesn’t do Micro-transactions atleast for now.

Fun is also subjective. So far Ubisoft games to me have been very samey. They are safe titles to buy, but it’s a matter of if you actually enjoy their sandbox games. I enjoy them with moderation so I won’t buy every one that releases.

AC Unity was my last Assassins Creed I completed and genuinely had fun with.

I remember pre-ordering each one until a certain point I think it was with Rogue. They aren’t high art but I like them all the same, all I am doing is waiting for Valhalla to end its content run and maybe a price drop.

Really? I always hated Unity, it had the best parkour but that came at the expense of everything else. I skipped Syndicate because of it. Which was a shame because Syndicate was good.

AC Unity had solid Multiplayer. If you had Friends to play it with you could genuinely get a lot out of it despite the story being mediocre and it’s personally had the best customization out of the series too.

From a historical perspective mediocre is an understatement. How does a French company allow their game about the French Revolution turn out so bad? Like the actual plot is basic (and in a bad way) but the actual events and people might as well be other people.

Like the French government called the game propaganda and so did a researcher in the field of the revolution.

Death Stranding has none. So this is correct.
Pretty sure that stuff with MGSV was Konami’s involvement.

Konami Involvement but as I said you earned enough regularly that you never really had to buy them especially since they were meant for post game stuff.

The Matrix experience / Unreal Engine 5 demo released.

Even if I don’t have a console to play it myself, I looked some videos online. I genuinely thought it was going to be the usual “on train very guided demo”, but no.
There is an intro, where some of the most flashy features are presented (and some like the destruction and most of the actions systems are only present here in scripted form), but I was very surprised when it closed not with a credit-thank-you-for-playing-we-cant-wait-to-see-you-later, screen but with the opening of the world.

It’s a whole open world, with admittedly limited gameplay and artistic value.

It all seems promising.

I thought that game was vapourware.

They most definitely are, but sadly my personal playing experience with them is only superficial (as is the case with most Pdx games lol). My go-to Pdx game was Hearts of Iron 2, though my roommate back in undergrad was a Vicky 1 afficionado. The Vicky games have possibly the steepest learning curve out of all the Pdx strategies and I simply haven´t had the will to invest the time into them over the years (especially the POP and economy mechanics were quite the difference from what I was used to in HoI2 and seemed like they would take me a veeery long time to grasp). But I still absolutely want to, especially Vicky 2, since it´s said to have a really great diplomacy and economy system (and because there’s a cool looking Cold War mod for it).

CK3 is apparently the most accessible Pdx strategy yet according to reviewers and players (will likely buy it some time soon), so it seems like Pdx may have finally figured out a way to make their games somewhat easier to figure out, which is why I´m looking forward to Vicky 3 in the hopes that it will be the same case as opposed to the previous two games.

Generally I would say that if you like any Paradox strategy out of their main series, then it is definitely worth checking out the others as you are likely to enjoy them as well, providing the setting and focus are to your liking. The basic gist is always the same: there´s politics, economy, diplomacy, warfare, trade, etc., and what you do is completely up to you, only each series has more focus on some of these areas or even comes with its unique elements (such as the RPG nature of CK or Vicky´s focus on demographics and economy).

Though apparently Stellaris is pretty unique/different from the rest of the bunch…

Edit: This article actually does a pretty good job at giving an idea about what each of the (newer) games is like.
