I get that Ubisoft has tons of studios all around the world, but something about the phrase “20 upcoming games” is giving me “quantity over quality” vibes.
And also, how many are MTX-driven light RPG systems full of grind and pointless collectible checklists?
Edit: yeah ok this was pretty pessimistic. They do have some good titles. Its just the clear money-making smorgasbord games are more prominent.
(Also NFTs that they didn’t shut down, moreso put on hold.)
Let’s talk about Red Dead Redemption 2/ Red Dead Online, but I’ll need to talk about GTA V too.
Firstly, a majority of Rockstar Supported titles have changed up their QA structure for updates before public releases of future content.
On Steam Database it’s has been made closer in line with Rockstars Launcher in structure which is meant to be seem-less since Rockstar is allegedly releasing a new version of said launcher as a Steam App.
QA Beta and QA Test (Formally QA Beta 2) are the two things to focus on here. While they haven’t been updated in a few weeks these backend changes in structure lead me into my next point that being GTA Online
GTA Online/ V has released again for Next Generation Systems to generally mixed reactions. But what take away from this is separating the Online and Campaign elements. Rockstars Focus going forward is to separate the Singleplayer Campaigns and Online elements. The reasoning behind this is simply due to the fact that when Rockstar changes or adds something to Online it’s messes with something in Singleplayer.
For example with Red Dead the Singleplayer has had its fair share of issues post launch with Facial Animations Breaks, Glitches, etc due to changes with online.
What does this mean for the future? Rockstar making Stand-alone Applications for their online portions was done intentionally this was to preserve the experiences of Singleplayer while being able to evolve the online worlds (and of course money). Unfortunately for the months ahead for Red Dead Online event months will persist probably til July. Fortunately that means Rockstar has no intention on having the sun set with it for the people who do play it.
As for GTA Online this is where I start speculating, but I do feel that either 2023 or 2024 will be the last major year for content as the inevitable yet Illusive GTA 6 is in development and continue passing milestones as the months pass with it most recent development lent picking up pace. There is a possibility that content updates for Last Gen GTA Online will stop to entice people to upgrade simply cause Hardware limitations, but who knows right now.
I understand this isn’t big news, but these are a lot of backend changes going on with Rockstar and their games that it’s worth sharing.
Looking at the releases between now and the year 2020 there will be at least three since the only one of those sorts of games they released were AC Valhalla, Far Cry 6 and Watchdogs Legion.
People complain that Ubisoft only make one type of game (ignoring that literally every studio specialises in one genre) but never talk about games like Valiant Hearts, Mario + Rabbids, Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Child of Light, Rayman, Riders Republic and the all-time masterpiece gesamtkunstwerk that is Shaun White Skateboarding because they ignore them when they come out.
Sadly this is how advertising works, if you make a lot of money and you know there is a broad audience for something it is going to be marketed more frequently even if it is an artistically samey product.
I was just listing off games that weren’t in the action-RPG mould as described. I also called Shaun White Skateboarding a masterpiece and you will clearly see that it isn’t if you look at any online footage that might still exist. (Which is little)
That game exists to A) inflate Shaun White’s bank account because he was one of the few extreme sportsmen to not be in anything at all, B) Give Ubisoft an extreme sports game to cash in on during the death throes of the extreme sports craze and C) sell ad space for Wendy’s and Doublemint gum.
I am depressed and angry that we will most likely not be getting another Tony Hawk remaster or new entry.
“Hey, we need to design a couple of controller skins to promote the upcoming Sonic 2 Movie prize giveaway.”
“OK, maybe slap on some nice decal images of Sonic and Knuckles on the controllers, use some of the great art that we have of the characters.”
“Nah man, I’ve got a better idea.”
Not sure what is worse, the fact that these controllers look borderline unusable without making them mank, or that they’re only giving away an Xbox Series S. You guys really couldn’t spring for a Series X for two prize giveaways?
I’d rather have that IDW drawn Sonic PS5 prize from a while ago. Simple but awesome looking.
Yikes. Looks like they covered them with pieces of Elmo and Cookie Monster. God help you if you need to find the middle options buttons on the controller…
The console design is decent with the ring around the air vent. Weird that Paramount couldn’t spring for the full Series X.
If anyone played the atmospheric sci-fi puzzle/adventure/exploration game, Deliver Us The Moon, and enjoyed it as much as I did, then you’ll be pleased to learn that there is a sequel coming soon…
Alongside the monthly limited-time rewards included as part of GTA+, Rockstar says subscribers will also be able to purchase special GTA+ Shark Cards from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, which will provide “extra bonus cash”
“We heard you love buying money, so we let you buy money so you can buy more money, again.”
This one looks interesting. You play as fire fighter, Captain Jacob Thomas, who is sent with a crew to the Monad Quantum Research Facility after the facility sent a distress call. Things are not what they appear and you have to deal with an “unknown entity”. A cosmic-horror FPS running in Unreal Engine 5. It’s coming soon to PS5 and XSX|S, but no current release date yet.
