Well of course. He wanted to close out his twilight days of him term as president with good will among America. The stimulus checks are a good example of this.
Anything he said never came off as genuine and his decisions never benefited the average American citizen. They only benefited the major tech companies and pharmaceutical companies.
The next 10-15 years in America are gonna be interesting since yesterday’s events are gonna be reflected with what ever Patriot Act like things that have the potential to be implemented.
At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. -Lincoln
The PRO act would give huge power to workers who wish to organise or already are organised. It likely will not become law unless the senate decides on day 1 to get rid of the 60 vote cloture rule (killing the filibuster), or there is a deal to keep the filibuster but only if X and Y get passed and PRO is one of them. I’m still hopeful though. Unionism isn’t about your paycheck. Pro athletes have huge paycheck and belong to a union and attorneys make $500 an hour and still belong to an “association” as they call it. Unions for all!!!
I’m more so worried about further testing our natural born rights as Citizens and increased surveillance under the guise of protecting National Security and the United States as a whole.
A thing that makes me wonder, Trump’s video to the rioters was prerecorded. I have no good feeling of Washington’s local time, but is there any indication when the video was recorded? Besides being bright daytime. In no way the situation was all a surprise for him if the video is already many hours old.
And we @Swangtheugly wasn’t worried about something like this could/can happen.
Please, please invoke the 25th amendment or impeach him (not to you @Swangtheugly, I’m pretty sure you don’t have that kind of power ).
Other breaking news: “Trump won’t attend Biden’s inauguration”, that’s okay, I’m sure he will not be missed there.
Hahaha, so true.
But would the US Military really help Trump with a coup? I don’t think so, but can they refuse when Trump is their highest leader?
Alrighty clarification here I wasn’t worried about him deploying Military in or around the White House to keep him in office.
Now a nuclear strike, its time to take grandpas keys away.
No, as of now as far as I know of there is no direct “proof” of a Coup outside of Pelosi and Pence bumping shoulders at the end of a senate meeting.
The Military swore an oath to Protect the Constitution, The United States and its people, not Donald J Trump.
As for Donald Trump initiating a Nuclear Strike he is the only one who can do it and the Secretary of Defense can’t veto it either. I suggest reading up on Nuclear Football. I’d hope the President isn’t dense enough to drop nukes on somewhere like Russia or China without cause or reason. If he really wants to fuck up the world and the United States specifically because he wanted to be a Child cause he isn’t getting his way then he needs to be taken out of office cause he clearly isn’t stable enough as an individual.
Call me naïve but I think that sound ridiculous. Trump wants to be President again in 4 years. He’s going to repeat his lies about election fraud like a broken record and try to become the next GOP candidate of alternatively establish his own party.
He’s not going to nuke another country. I also don’t believe this was a coup. Trump is an idiot who tried to portray himself as a victim. He was probably the last person who expected that all his rhetoric’s would increase tensions so much that his die-hard followers would actually storm the capitol. Mind you I still blame him for what happen, because being a moron and not thinking things through is no excuse.
Even if we assume that he’s actually crazy enough to launches a nuke, he’s just the one giving the orders. There are failsafe and I trust that the people who would launch the nukes are rational people who don’t blow up others countries because someone who’s about to become an unperson is angry about losing.
Really, this sound more like fear mongering than a rational fear.
A group of armed people stormed the capital to overturn a democratic and fair election to install a tinpot dictator. Just because it was organised and enacted by pathetic idiots doesn’t stop it from being a coup attempt. I could shoot at a person and miss each shot and that is still attempted murder.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told members in a letter that she spoke to the chairman of the joint chiefs about President Trump and the nuclear codes.
“This morning, I spoke to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike,” Pelosi wrote. “The situation of this unhinged President could not be more dangerous, and we must do everything that we can to protect the American people from his unbalanced assault on our country and our democracy.”
So I don’t think we have anything to fear… (famous last words ) hopefully…
Of course, it was a coup. A failed one, carried out be pathetic people calling themselves patriots.
I just don’t believe Trump was working together with some other high-ranking officials behind the scene to make sure he stays president by unleashing a mob onto the capitol.
There’s (probably no conspiracy) just reckless people not caring about the consequences of their actions and mob who believes that there are the majority.
I just have no clue anymore but Trump did incite the crowd and he knew his base were mentally unstable and prone to this sort of violence. I would say even if he wasn’t knowingly acting on a plan he certain is the one behind it all. Halon’s Razor: Stupidity gets more people killed than active malevolence.
Well he did ask other rebublicans to turn over the election during the certification, even Mike Pence was asked, but when he didn’t do that, Trump tweeted:
“At 2:24 p.m., after Mr. Trump tweeted that Mr. Pence “didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done.”
So call it what you want, a coup or trying to overturn a legal election, it is the same outcome.
Sorry I wanted to fix that since there is a difference between a coup and extra-legal removal from office and that is coups are violent or forceful insurrections
Part of the reason a lot of people are concerned is that this pattern of public response has been present in the rise of (albeit more competent) dictators ceasing power from Julius Ceasar to Adolph Hitler. The reason extreme measures are permitted against acts of sedition and treason is because those acts have extreme potential to create extreme damage to a society even when they fail or are executed poorly.
History is littered with various people you don’t read about because they rode a zeitgeist into power, then didn’t know how to control it and ended up being replaced a few years later while the country burned around them - it happening concurrently is why many regions of Africa are so unstable. The main difference is in Africa the corporate interests involved were foreign, and in the USA they’re domestic but have foreign bank accounts and chateaus.
Right now Parler has various groups of people who are planning to do it all again on 19 January 2021, and are discussing the best way to transport their weapons so they can go in armed with AR-15s instead of signs. They have specific lists of politicians and government officers they want to kill because they consider them the enemy - and the last run proved to them they they have the power and the ability to make it happen.
With that going on Trump, or whoever they select to replace him, doesn’t need to be competent and doesn’t need to be a planner - he just needs to let his disposable, independent strike force continue enacting terrorism while he pulls on all the official levers he can reach.
Simply saying “It won’t happen” is pretty much the exact thinking that led to this situation, so repeating it and hoping the problem will fix itself is well…
