Idaho, Tennessee and Texas had trigger laws formally go into effect today. North Dakota’s was blocked by a judge pending their decision on legal challenges.

Practically, not much will change as harsh laws were already in place in all three states and most providers had already stopped offering abortion services or had moved to other states.

For what it’s worth, it’s pretty sweet that Tate’s gone to Romania to live with his fellow vampires. Someone should spray him with garlic mixed in sparkling water and see what happens.

This is not technically news, but it’s a fantastic piece of journalism that might interest some.

Am I right in saying bellingcat worked with Navalny? Either way, that’s a really interesting article.

Doubtful, Christo Grozev and Bellingcat have contact with Navalny (they famously did articles identifying his attempted assassins, and made a BBC documentary about the poisoning), but I never saw anything that could be constructed as him being a primary /central source, even more here (Navalny is more of a corruption, public facing politic guy, and with a few caveats to his words).

Bellingcat have databases, experiences with the russian operatus, a bunch of other sources, (some internal to the russian government), and a few other things.

They tend to be pretty independant in both their impetuses and follow up. They rely much more on osint than humint.

I just read something else on that recently. Sounds like movie needs to be made.

It reminds me a lot about the Israeli spy who had the Argentinian backstory. The one Sacha Baron Cohen played in the netflicks series.

Like he paints people and cracks jokes for a living.

The banned list included To Kill a Mockingbird and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
So basically the school district there in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania is just run by a bunch of backwards dummies. The article mentioned the entire school district was 5000 kids.

Last night, the Michigan Republican party formally nominated two batshit election deniers for Attorney General and, disturbingly, Secretary of State. These idiots need to have their asses handed to them in November.

They are trying to brute force their way into power by getting as many of these people into such positions as they can as a big Hail Mary, and then they’ll seal it all up so they never lose it again if they succeed. Considering the behaviors of the people who provide the money for these dipshits to run, if that strategy fails, I’m convinced the wind will be taken out of their sails and the whole election denier/Trump backer/MAGA movement will decrease further and further each election cycle before becoming irrelevant completely by 2040. If they can be beaten in November. If not, getting rid of them is going to take a lot longer, and will be a lot more painful.

Metropolitan Police has been accused of providing a “tailored” service for private companies who can afford to pay for it - at the expense of crime-ravaged neighbourhoods.

The force has contracts with several companies to provide a full-time dedicated team of officers - typically a sergeant and six constables - at their sites, often in addition to private security.

They include Wembley Park, who are paying £523,000 a year for patrols in an area containing 1,200 private rented flats and a host of retail businesses.

Under the agreements, the Met promises to “reduce the level of crime” and “increase the feeling of safety” of those who live or work there.

But other parts of the capital are not so lucky, with London now home to eight of the 10 neighbourhoods with the most unsolved burglaries in the UK.

The Met has also struggled to contain surging levels of violent crime, and was placed in special measures last month for “systemic” problems including a failure to properly investigate crime.

Critics accuse it of providing a better policing response for those wealthy enough to afford it, including Westfield, which has officers at its shopping centres in both White City and Stratford.

The Met brought in more than £850,000 annually from the two retail hubs in recent years.

Who do they think they are, the goddamn ICA? You don’t protect those who pay for it; everybody pays for it, that’s why taxes are a thing! In fact, the tax-dodging wealthy should get less protection if we’re going by societal contributions. But we’re not; law enforcement is supposed to enforce the law, not rich cowards’ feelings of safety.

I thought shit like this only happened here in the Under-Financed States of America, and while on the one hand I’m glad to see that that’s just another case of American arrogance thinking we’re the center of the world, on the other hand… are you fucking kidding me?

NASA’s set to launch the first Artemis mission in the next few hours, the first step in returning manned missions to the moon, but they’re finding fuel leaks and possible cracks. (Thunderstorms had already pushed back the start of the fueling process.) If they can’t launch today, the next launch window isn’t until Friday.

Edit: And now it’s officially been cancelled for today.

Ukraine announced on Monday the start of a long-awaited counter-offensive to retake territory in the south.

The news came as a team from the U.N. nuclear watchdog headed to Ukraine to inspect the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.

“Today we started offensive actions in various directions, including in the Kherson region,” Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne cited southern command spokeswoman Natalia Humeniuk as saying.

She declined to give details of the counter-offensive, saying Russian forces in southern Ukraine remained “quite powerful”.

Russia’s RIA news agency, quoting local official Vladimir Leontiev, reported that people were being evacuated from workplaces in Nova Kahokva, a town 58 km (36 miles) to the east of Kherson.

The Air France guys are always ready to go to blows. They nearly killed their CEO last time they went on strike. He had to jump a fence to escape them. I believe they had torn his clothes and spilled some blood before he escaped.

This is why I literally try not to idolize celebrities anymore. So many of them turn out to be predators or abusers or just overall shitty people and it’s awful.

that came outta nowhere.
