China’s Chang’e 4 was the first to land on the far side of the moon in 2019. Chandrayaan-3 is the first to land near the crater-filled south pole.

Wagner Telegram Channels are claiming that the Russian military shot Prigozhin’s jet down. Honestly wouldn’t suprise me. Putin doesn’t exactly give me the vibes of someone who would let leaders of rebellion off easy.

Dmitry Utkin is also on the passenger list.
He is the (suspected) creator of the Wagner group, back in 2014.
To be clear at the moment : no body have been identified, and Wagner had two planes flying, one was shot down, the second flew back.
The passenger list does have both Prigozhin and Utkin on it. As confirmed by Reuters.
At minimum, it’s a clear show of intent. But no confirmation on if it is failed or not.
The Wagner group is currently not essential to the operations in Ukraine. And its influence in Africa is frequently overrepresented. (but the French say hello)
Prigozhin was named a traitor by Putin, on a live speech to the nation during the coup.
Wagner and the Russian Ministry of Defence were frequently in a struggle for leadership, and glory.
A struggle the Ministry won during the spring. A victory that have been in full effect since the coup. And consolidated the last few months.

A bit of an interesting diplomatic situation in Niger.
The military Junta has ordered the French ambassador expelled within 48h.
Not present in the Reuters article is the French response : " “putschists have no authority’ to tell ambassador to leave”.
France doesn’t recognize them, and so nor the expulsion order. Development of the situation will be fascinating to see if France keeps him in place. At least to force an irregular and “forceful” evacuation to deny any legitimacy to the junta.
(at least contrary to the Americans, we actually had a ambassador already.)

Update at 0100UTC : previous update has been retracted. AFP received copy of letters that were first confirmed by the service of communication of the CNSP, before having the informations retracted a few hours later. France is still asked to recall the ambassador.

After failing to cooperate, a judge has entered a default judgment again Ruby Giuliani in a defamation suit brought by two Georgia elections workers.
Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea’ ArShaye Moss, testified at the Jan 6 Committee hearings last year about the abuse and threats they faced following baseless accusations of fraud by Giuliani and Trump.
Giuliani will have to pay over $130,000 in legal fees with (hopefully substantial) damages to be determined later this year or in early 2024.

And he could have gotten away with it, too. Could have had a legacy that only remembered him for prosecuting the mob and being the mayor of New York on 9/11 and “managed” the crisis. There’s a good chance nobody would have ever brought up what a scumbag he is and he could have faded away gracefully. But, he threw in with Trump and now all the baggage has come out and he’s ruined. That’s what makes it double satisfying. That not only was he trash but kept it hidden, but that it’s his own fault that it came out when he had the chance to get away with it all and didn’t take it.
