Revenge of the Fifth.

From what I understand, the math needed to analyze the data they have is highly complicated and a source of errors. Also it is dependent on the measurement of the mass of other particles and some coupling constants.

The good thing about Myons is they are heavy and comparably long-living for very detailed studies at existing colliders, so I think this anomaly is a question that can be answered in the near future.

The disagreeing scientists mentioned in the article are from Russia, so I guess due to current events there won’t be ongoing participation from that direction soon. :frowning:

That is true, however that also happened to the Higgs Boson, where in 1996 it was “discovered”, later disappeared in the data again and then discovered with certainty in 2013.

What I think is purely speculative at this point is some kind of fifth force. For now it is just an anomaly. I think that is more the marketing spin on the story.

I am merely saying we should avoid articles that editorialise like the BBC article does even I posted the same article and deleted it when I did a bit more digging. Regardless, Fermilab did significant research into the muon regardless of any sort of fifth force and it might help understand sub-atomic physics regardless.

Yes, even particle scientists themselves are not always a good source the moment they ask for larger colliders.

Deja vu all over again. Donald Trump has been indicted in Georgia, along with lawyers Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell and John Eastman, former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and fourteen others. There are also 30 unindicted co-conspirators.

Details are still emerging, but at a quick glance, there are 41 charges, starting with RICO and moving on to conspiracy and various forms of lying and forgery, all in an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The indictment itself is here, should you be so inclined:

The U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres today called on an international police force to intervene in Haiti to help restore order and fight the influence of armed gangs. For those unfamiliar after the assassination of Haiti’s previous President the country fell into anarchy with the government proceeding to collapse. It has gotten so bad that all elected terms have now expired and with there being so little of a government presence they were not able to organize new elections meaning there are currently no elected officials for the entire country. The country has had no President since 2021, and both chambers of the legislature are all unfilled. Due to gangs now controlling large portions of the country many believe that an intervention by the international community may be the only way to bring back order.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the least bit surprising.

Ooh, that’s nothing to play around with, those idiots are going to end up indicted themselves.

This is really serious. I know we’ve all watched Trump wriggle out of shit a thousand times but this case feels different.

And the oldies wonder why there are Yes voters for the referendum.

“How dare the Greens want everyone to be able to afford a house! They should be grateful we are even letting a measly 40000 people pay half for their houses. By the way what does a house cost these days? 200,000 dollars still?”

“Also fuck the forests by the way. We really want to make sure we cede even more political capital to the Greens next election.”

American leftists will say fucking braindead, midwit shit like “Socialism is when no UV protection” and then wonder why nobody takes them seriously. Then again I expect nothing less from the DSA, if you ask for a big tent party you should expect a dozen fucking clowns to show up.

I heard they had too evacuate all of Yellowknife, that is nearly half the population of the NWT alone.

Typical No Voter behaviour, if I am ever prime minister I am deporting the CPAC Aus line-up to America, leave that Seppo rubbish in The States where it belongs.

Speaking of typical Seppo behaviour. Thankfully the offending homophobe was dealt with proportionally.

This debate is going to be a fucking shitshow, I am going to fucking love it.

Hey, hey, no copying England and sending your undesirables to another continent, you dispose of your own trash on your own terms. We’ve already got enough of that crap over here as it is, we still haven’t figured out what to do with it.

In Guatemala Bernardo Arévalo a member of the centre-left Seed Movement has become President-elect after winning the second round of Guatemala’s Presidential election.

I would really appreciate it if you would make sure to include sources in your posts.

Also Ecuador’s joint election and referendum has ended in the decision to host a run-off election and the decision to stop the drilling of oil in Yasuni National Park.

Ah fuck I accidentally copied the Guatemala article twice.

India has become the fourth nation to successfully land on the moon. Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander touched down safely near the lunar south pole a few minutes ago.
