Alright, if CBS wants to play this game, Vance and Walz should spend the whole debate accusing Margaret Brennan and Norah O’Donnell of killing JonBenét Ramsey.
It probably isn’t a coincidence that GOP mega-donor Larry Ellison recently bought Paramount Global, which includes CBS News.
At least we can be fairly certain that the one who doesn’t matter will not get to celebrate a 100 year birthday, because his fucked up lifestyle practically guarantees he won’t last that long.
“The first rule of war is know your enemy, and Europe and the current American government are unwilling to define this war as against Islamist terrorism. If in Belgium they continue eating chocolate and enjoying life, and continue to appear as great democrats and liberals, they won’t be aware that some Muslims in their country are organising terror, they won’t be able to fight them.”
Mateusz Morawiecki withdrew his country’s involvement in the summit after Yisrael Katz, who was appointed acting Israeli foreign minister on Sunday, said Poles “suckle antisemitism with their mother’s milk” and accused all Polish people of harbouring “innate” antisemitism.
Katz also supports settlements, extending full Israeli sovereignty to the West Bank and severing all relations with the Palestinian Authority and opposes the two-state solution and the creation of a Palestinian state in any form, which he regards as unacceptable considering “our rights to this land”.
And I’m not saying Guterres is Mandela or whatever, but he immediately condemned the October 7th attacks, I don’t understand what Katz’s problem is with him.
The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms this morning’s attack by Hamas against Israeli towns near the Gaza Strip and central Israel, including the firing of thousands of rockets toward Israeli population centers. The attacks have so far claimed numerous Israeli civilian lives and injured many hundreds. The Secretary-General is appalled by reports that civilians have been attacked and abducted from their own homes. The Secretary-General is deeply concerned for the civilian population and urges maximum restraint. Civilians must be respected and protected in accordance with international humanitarian law at all times. The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and calls for the immediate release of all abducted persons. The Secretary-General urges all diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider conflagration. He stresses that violence cannot provide a solution to the conflict, and that only through negotiation leading to a two-state solution can peace be achieved.
I hear that Ben-Gvir and Smotrich are supposed to be the far-right outliers in Netanyahu’s cabinet but looking at Katz, I’m wondering if this is the standard Netanyahu statesman: xenophobic war hawks who act like spoilt toddlers whenever they are even slightly criticised by an outside authority.
You did forgot to mention quite alot about why Israelis in general don’t like Gutteres and the UN in general.
You mentioned that Gutteres did condemned the attacks conducted by Hamas on Oct. 7th but you forgot to mention when he posted said tweet. It was posted on April 7th., 6 whole months after the attack he gave a very dry message regarding the attacks.
Both Katz and plenty of Israelis were very unsatisfied by the tweet and you can tell this by reading the replies.
Most Pro Israelis just thought of it as too little too late.
He also condemns Israel a lot but rarely ever condemns Hamas, Russia, Iran or Hezbollah. Despite the crimes these organizations/states commit on a daily basis.
Yeah, Israelis don’t like someone who publicly hates them, and even if he does not but just so happen to care about Israel’s enemies more than he cares about Israel, my point still stands.
Btw, I’m not willing to start an infinite convo about who’s side you should support because these conversations can get heated easily, but disagreeing with me and saying that Israel has no reason whatsoever to dislike Gutteres is wrong, if you do support Gutteres or you support Israel or Palestine or Iran or Ukraine or Russia or Aliens is up to you and I really don’t care
Fair point, but banning the UN Secretary-General from your country is still a pretty extreme and hostile move.
I don’t want to make this a numbers game, but Gutteres has condemned the Russian invasion and, as your tweet shows, Hamas, so calling him a Hamas stooge just for not showing favouritism to Israel is pretty unfair.
I know Hamas is the bad guy here and Israel just wants their hostages back ASAP, but in my opinion, Israel is not above criticism when they commit war crimes. They shouldn’t pressure the UN or anyone else to turn a blind eye and shut up, or punish them for speaking out.
I do get your point aswell, just looking at the amount of condemnations towards Israel in comparison to everyone else just proves how non neutral he is.
Unfortunately for Gutteres (If he even cares) the Israeli government heavily dislikes him at this point due to his statements during the war and they don’t want him to come over if all he’ll do is try to point fingers against Israel, but honestly if he hates just let him hate up close or try to show him the greats of what Israel has to offer, banning him doesn’t help anyone.
I worry that banning Gutteres, even if he is a bleeding heart dweeb, is probably going to look bad on Israel. Picking fights with the UN and Amnesty is only making Israel look guilty and hostile.
Hope you and your family stay safe, friend. I feel things are going to get worse.
