Reading this word -

… I realize how similar a lot of words around the Pope are to Palpatine.

And I can’t help but wonder… was that deliberate?

I would say Palpatine is closer to Palatine as in Palatine Hill which was home to both the original forum of the Roman Republic (and later empire) and the earliest ruling classes of the Roman Empire.

Middle of the road choice. Not the best, not the worst, doesn’t seem to be much of a friend to any non-heterosexual lifestyles, but seems to have been eyed by the previous pope as a likely heir, so maybe he knew something we don’t yet. As long as he’s not a nutso conservative, we’ll probably be able to put up with him.

An American Pope? I was thinking either Parolin or Tagle. Good on the new Holy Father, hopefully he takes Trump and Vance to task.

EDIT:

They need to update the Pope’s profile picture, we’ve already got photos of him in the white cassock or whatever it’s called.

What’s the chance that 2028 will have the same “FUCK FUCK FUCK we need to go back to the last administration!” mentality as 2020 did?

If so, Kamala might still have a shot. She might not be the best candidate, God knows who is, but she’s the only serious heterosexual candidate that can lay claim to Biden Administration, and we had an ex-VP win in 2020 and a past election loser win last year. The only other decent candidates are Beshear and maybe Chris Murphy.

It’s not like she’ll be the first: Trump, Nixon, Stevenson, Dewey and Cleveland all made comebacks as nominee after losing presidential elections.

Link to Murphy’s Substack:

I think it’ll be Beshear. Democratic governor of a deep red state who’s actually quite progressive but also tastes like non threatening white bread, unlike Newsome (smarmy coastal elite!) or Mayor Pete (gay! and too smart!) or Shapiro (jewish! and angry!) or Harris again (you know!). The main problem I see is that, while he’s not unlikeable, he does lack some rizz.
