Hardcore Freelancer is simply not worth it at all

Yeah fair enough, it’s worded wrong, making you think that you have no choice but to exit.

Yeah, when you see that, you’re just approaching the exit. If you keep walking you will exit but you can just turn around after clicking OK.

And once the exit cutscene is playing, it will give you the “are you sure?” prompt. But regardless of whether you choose yes or no, 47 still leaves because he’s already left. :joy:

IOI always had a problem with creating hard difficulties. i remember they introduced pro mode in 2016 and i HATED that mode. they moved around many important items in that mode, making map knowledge worthless. on top of that, it only allowed one save which was brutal.

but at least 2016’s pro mode had some incentive to complete it, such as unlocking exclusive items like the big one and the automatic silenced ICA19. freelancer hardcore mode just offers some trophy for completing it which is worthless for me, and if anything it just punishes you for trying out the mode by making you lose your stuff.

i’m never going to touch it, because i don’t want to lose all the items i worked hard to earn. i consider myself an above average player, but it seems like players were completely tormented playing this mode.

Wait were you the one who pushed the person over the side while trying to jump over a wall?

I wonder if abusing the reset glitch might be an automatic trigger for unwinnable prestige…

Not me.

I wasn’t abusing ALT+F4 on those earlier campaigns. I used it once or twice on the campaign I just completed in one sitting tonight, but the RNG was fine. No nightmare diffculty PO spins this time. So I don’t think it does.

Does failing a prestige objective insta-fail end the mission and campaign on the spot or do you keep playing the now unwinnable mission until you die or exit?

Which is fortunate for Alt-F4 users.

It sure is!

Someone at Nexus Mod summed it up best, “. . . everything is random. You can never learn from your mistakes because the progression is wiped. It’s no longer punishing players for making mistakes in missions, it’s punishing them for wanting to get good. Basically, whoever made hardcore mode are asking people to have very good game knowledge (that’s the easy part) and extremely good luck. And I’m sure 99% of people won’t find it entertaining. Because they have a life.

Everything isn’t random though is it

Would be nice if you could complete missions by either doing the prestige objective or the three optional objectives.

I’m gonna join the small minority here and say that hardcore is (mostly) fine. I get the objections, but once IOI start removing too many of the challenges it becomes, well, not hardcore.
Are there ways to make hardcore mode play more fair? Sure. Creating a larger variety of prestige objectives or, say, having the choice between completing a prestige objective or 2 or 3 of the normal objectives would go a long way towards making it more fun. But I really hope it doesn’t end up getting nerfed too heavily.

It might even be altered come when the first patch for Freelancer arrives perhaps?

Given what we’ve read recently, I highly agree with this statement.

From what I’ve heard Hardcore Mode sounds like a High Risk, Same Reward kind of mode, which seems very strange given how punishing it is and especially how it takes away your rewards compared to the main mode.

You lose, then ALL money disappears… though you’ll still be earning the same amount of Merces at the same rate.
Makes it not worth it at all to play for Merces in that mode given you’ll always lose Double what you would normally if you fail even one mission.

And the effect of this is far greater compared to losing 50%. If you’ve got a few hundred thousand Mercers and lose half, you still have more money that you would ever need. Enough to buy back any weapons you lost and to quickly restock your Freelancer tools. Whereas losing all your Mercers in Hardcore means you can’t immediately buy everything the Courier has in stock & lost weapons stay lost for quite a while.

On the flip side, you already get a legendary weapon from the reward crate after the very first syndicate. Compared to some meaningless 10k merces in normal.

I view it as a pure “challenge for yourself” mode, which you tangle with after youve mastered normal mode.

Tbf, merces become irrelevant very soon

I think it’s fun once you encounter all the bugs/imperfections that can happen to you. I switched to hardcore after competition of normal campaign. You still have a nice amount of merces(when you don’t die constantly) so I made my own complication: play with the stock market after each mission.
