The main reason why there is so much discussion is not the price, but the fact that nobody really knows what the product is. Some are optimistic (people like me, who will buy this in a heartbeat, based on IO’s track record), some are pessimistic (also understandable), but nobody knows for sure. And until we know, there’s no telling whether it’s worth the price or not.
This is problematic. I’m not clamoring for a price drop. I think that pricedrop demand is premature in any case, and also self-evident because the consumer always wants it cheaper. But additional, robust information of what to expect is really necessary. It’s surprising IO didn’t realise that before releasing this 7 Sins announcement. I hope they’ll come with additional info soon.
One of the things what really confused me at first was the change between “Contract” and “Escalation”. As entirely diffrent things. Plus if each Act is a season and the season only has one premium extra then why overhaul the current setup?
I won’t be surprised if they’ll wrap up HITMAN 3 support after it’s finished.
Though I don’t want this to happen.
At least 2-3 years of content and updates please…
Lloyd is suspended. I also removed their posts here because the user already threatened IO staff in the past personally to go on a crusade against them. I really don’t want such users to get any visibility here so I’d appreciate anyone who did replies to remove quotes of them or delete the replies as a whole.
Content/Value controversy aside, I’m pretty excited to see how this content map unfolds.
The design and theme of it is such a departure from the clean, grounded style of the trilogy. I’m interested in how they implement and change each level to fit each sin.
Wow, it looks pretty much like what I didn’t want. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks exactly like it’s going to be 30$ for escalations with level tweaks and reskinned items.
I mean, right now we have a reskin of the cane, which I’ve used exactly zero times (as an aside, does it share the same animations with the bat?). We also have another coin, which we already have four of. Plus, on top of being barely visible, bringing them is just an extra hassle since they don’t stack with regular coins in the level (I think?). The gold ICA19 would actually be nice, I guess, but we’re not lacking in hardballers, y’know?
From what has been “cough, cough” datamined, I suppose gluttony is going to be the butcher outfit (a reskin of the dumpling cook outfit?), plus two reskinned melee items.
I’ve already paid 30 bucks for a few suits I never use and reskinned items. For another 30 bucks, I’d expect a new level, but I’d settle for items with different mechanics, a revolver, dual-weilding, etc… at least something that required a bit more time at the drawing board and pushes the mechanics a little.
Part of me does wonder: Did they expect that kind of backlash or were the genuinely surprised and thought people would be happy about the announcement? And if they expected the backlash why did they create these escalations in the first place? Because they (rightfully?) assume that people will bitch but buy it anyway? Or are we a minority and most people are actually excited for this?
It’s hard to say what IO expected, I’m sure they knew that it would be controversial. However once the dust settles and more concrete information is available, the reception might be different. I’ll personally decide weather or not I’ll buy into it the DLC when I got something more than the initial announcement.
Either way all we have to choose is what we do with the money in our wallets. It’s alright to be skeptical, however I would strongly suggest not letting emotions get the better of us as long as we don’t have a complete picture.
I’m sure they know exactly what the reaction will be in advance. From the way the EGS exclusivity was dubbed as ‘honoring their PC players of 20 years’, buried somewhere in a blogpost about a new location (Dartmoor), to the way that the word escalation first appears multiple paragraphs down in this buzzword “premium” blogpost… Oh, they know. They must.
If the reaction is easy to predict for us, then it’s probably even easier for professionals with relevant data at hand. They must be expecting it to be a net gain either way. I assume the production costs weren’t too high for this anyway, so it probably won’t require too much.
This is a real shame, because IO had so much goodwill from the entire gaming community when they became independent. In my opinion, it actually afforded them the opportunity to cut the bullshit PR talk, and talk directly and earnestly to their fanbase. Gamers are usually not the gullible types, so people would have loved them for that: “look at IO, they’re not like the other greedy companies.” Imagine if they had just come out and said: “The Epic deal afforded us the opportunity to stay in business, and while we know it’s a hassle for Steam players, we need the money to stay afloat and we hope you will come to like it.” How different the reactions would have been.
I want a Wrath version of Berlin where you hunt all the agents, and the escape routes are blocked by hellfire or something. All kills sanctioned. Oh and Jiao is there as an easter egg.
